    1. [GACARROL-L] RE: Curry
    2. I'm trying to find my greatgrandfather, WILLIAM CURRY. Married a Mary (?) c. 1850 we think, in Ga. He was shown in 1860 Carroll Co. Census - Kansas Dist., with wife, Mary and 3 kids: William Edward, Mary E.T., and Johnathan. I cannot locate this family anywhere in Ga. (or Ala.) after 1860. Does anybody on this list have info on CURRYS from Ga. or Ala.? I believe they migrated from N.Car. to Ga., then to Ala. Thanks, B.G.

    1. [GACARROL-L] Andrew J. Bowen
    2. Cory Bowen
    3. Researching an Andrew Jackson Bowen born March 30, 1819 in Georgia. He was marrried around 1840 to 1845. He had two children by the names of James W. Bowen and Lucinda Bowen. He later married Mary Lee Hayes in Carroll County, Georgia in 1853. Andrew and Mary had thirteen children together. They later moved to Clay County, Alabama. They moved around quite a bit between Georgia and Alabama. It does appear that some of the children were born in Carroll County, Georgia and the rest in Clay County, Alabama near the city of Lineville. He later died on April 10, 1877 right before his move back to Georgia. If anyone is researching this family line please contact me about your research and I will share information with you. Thank you, Cory Bowen.

    1. [GACARROL-L] RE: Henry Burton and Henry Newton Reagin
    2. Hello: I am searching for any knowledge of a Henry Burton Reagin. He was born 9-18-1840 in Powder Springs, Cobb Co, GA. Henry married a Julia Kiser and had three children: Robert Longshore Reagin, Jesse P. Reagin and Willie B. Reagin. Henry left that family and moved over to Carroll Co where he might have possible become the sheriff in that county. He married again, to a woman named Fanny Russell. They had at least one child, Henry Newton Reagin. He later married a woman named Lucy??? and they had three children: Florence R. (who later married a Connell); Joseph R. and Steve W. Reagin. Henry Burton's third marriage was to a Mary, we believe. They had three children: Charles Russell, Pearl Reagin and Minnie Reagin. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks so much! Tracy

    1. [GACARROL-L] GARST/COLTHARP/KINNEY/GRACE OR GROCE/PYRON/RICHARDS
    2. Looking for descendants of Christopher GARST (b. Va 1804, d. Carroll Co July 1881) and Sarah C0LTHARP (b. 23 Aug 1807 Jefferson Co TN, d. 6 Apr 1877, Carroll Co) Chris and Sarah were married 11 Dec 1825 in Jefferson Co. TN. In the 1830 census, he is listed in Carroll Co GA (and they were prob. there by 1826) where the next two generations (and sometimes a 3rd and 4th ) were born. He and Sarah had 14 children. I can only account for some of them. Any help? 1. Martha b. 12 Sept 1826 (either TN or GA, depending on which census you use!) M. Isaac Kinney 30 Dec 1858, d. 12 Dec 1902, Carroll Co GA. I have very little info on the Kinney children, though I know there were still descendants in Carroll Co as late as the 1950s. My grandfather got these dates from a neighbor in CC who had "the Kinney bible" in 1954. I also do not know where Martha Garst Kinney is buried. 2. Frances b. 1832 GA 3. James Marion b. 17 Aug 1833, d. 5 Mar 1916 in Confederate Soldiers Home, Atlanta. Had issue: Christopher Morris, Carrie, Arthur. I can account for descendants of Christopher Morris and Arthur. Chris moved to Alabama where he raised his family, but Arthur lived and died in Carroll Co. and is buried at the Macedonia Baptist cemetery in Sand Hill. The latest of his descendants I am sure of is Roy Garst BOYD, son of Bessie Garst (d. 1978) and Roy Clinton Boyd (d. 1956). I have no information on Carrie, b. 1862. I also do not know who James Marion's wife was beyond SARAH, b. 1840. In the 1860 census they were living in the Bowden area. There were family rumors that James Marion had a later family, but I have no evidence of that. I do suspect he abandoned his Carroll Co children, since both Arthur and Carrie lived with Chris and Sarah from time to time. 4. Joanna b. 1836 5. William Eli b. 1838, served in CSA Co F 7th Regiment of GA Vol. infantry. Died of pneumonia, Nov 13 1862, hospital, Port Jefferson, Charlottesville Va. Buried in Confederate Cemetery, Charlottesville. No known issue. 6. John E. b. 1840. Served in CSA Co F 7th Rgt, GA vol. inf. Captured Nashville. Released from prison in Rock Island IL at war's end. Married M.G. or M.J GRACE 1 Dec 1868, per Carroll Co GA marriage records. May have had one child, daughter Sarah, b. May 1870. In the 1870 census she is listed as Sarah Garst with Martha Garst, age 22, in the home of a Melinda GROCE (GRACE?) in Carroll Co. In the 1880 census Sarah Groce, age 10, is listed as a granddaughter of Melinda Groce. John prob. died 1869. Is the name GRACE OR GROCE? Any hints? 7. Jacob F. b. 1843. Served in CSA, Co. F. Cobb's Legion. Enlisted Carroll Co GA 15 Aug 1861. Died of wounds in hospital, Richmond VA, May 1863. No known issue. 8. Susan Mary b. 1845, m. John Melvin RICHARDS, 13/18 Sept 1858 in Carroll Co GA. Three children--in touch with descendants 9. Mary (Mollie) V. b. 1845, m. Stephen J. PYRON, 4 April 1870. No info on descendants, though there is an LDS ancestral file that lists her as Mollie ZARST with children--but dates are way off! 10. Annabelle (Annie) b 1847; still at home in 1870 census 11. Eliza Ann b. 1848 12. Robert b. 1849 ; at home in 1870 census 13. PHILIP HINKLE b. 12 Oct 1850, m. abt. 1875 to Mary S. HAGER, d. 19 May 1937, in Carroll Co. This is my great grandfather--can account for all of his descendants. Children: Alma Irene (m. Beddingfield, no issue), Beatrice, no issue, Dr. Ira Clifton Hinkle Garst, b. 17 Nov 1880, m. Pearl Viola Moon in Decatur GA 30 Mar 1903; d. 11 Mar 1954, Carroll Co GA. All buried at Macedonia Bap. Ch. Two children of Ira and Pearl, Jarvis (b. 1908) and Janie (b. 1910), were born in Sand Hill. A third child, Christopher Hinkle, d. at age 4 in 1909 and is buried at Macedonia. 14. Nancy b. 1854; still at home in 1870 census The only Garsts in the 1880 census for Carroll Co. are the three children (Christopher Morris, Carrie, Arthur) of James Marion; Martha Garst Kinney; Philip Hinkle Garst and his daughters, Alma Irene, Beatrice. I would like any information on any of these families! Karen Dale Larkspur CO

    2. Carol C-H
    3. Cousins, I am confused. All scanty documentation I have says my g2gfather, Thomas S. JORDAN, was b. Jan. 3, 1832, Macon, Bibb county, GA. Last night, I found him in an ancestral file on the LDS site - submitters entered him b. in Carroll county, GA. I assumed this was entered incorrectly. Just now, I searched the IGI for him. Supposedly, the IGI is only documented sources such as church records - at least that was my understanding. To my extreme amazement, I found Thomas Jordan, b. 3 Jan, 1832, Carroll county, GA. In the IGI. The source is listed as Batch number: 8000019 Sheet:98 Source: Will somebody please tell me what this means? Have I been looking in the wrong place for him? Are there church records or something in Carroll county for him born then and there? There is no church listed - Please help - Carol C-H <cch@netdoor.com> http://www2.netdoor.com/~cch/

Mary Cole was the daughter of John and Sarah Cole of neighboring Paulding County. I am listing some 1850 Census records below. 1. [GACARROL-L] Humor: PILLSBURY DOUGHBOY DEAD AT 71
    2. Johnny Cook
    3. For anyone researching the surname "Fresh". PILLSBURY DOUGHBOY DEAD AT 71 Veteran Pillsbury spokesman Pop n Fresh died yesterday of a severe yeast infection. He was 71. Fresh was buried in one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent years. Dozens of celebrities turned out, including Mrs. Butterworth, Uncle Ben, Hungry Jack, Betty Crocker, Sara Lee and the Hostess Twinkies. The graveside was piled with flours as longtime friend, Aunt Jemima, delivered the eulogy, describing Fresh as a man who "never" knew how much he was kneaded. Fresh rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Still, even as a crusty old man, he was a roll model for millions. Fresh is survived by his second wife; they have two children and one in the oven. The funeral was held at 3:50 for 20 minutes.

    2. I noticed while looking thru this census for my Sheppard/Spears that there appears to be a listing of 'mixed blood' Cherokee heads of family at the end. I couldn't find my family names, but David Vann,Charles Vann, and John Ridge are listed. Most names only have the head of family with no ages of others in the family. Just thought others may not be aware and might want to take a look. Al Ragsdale
