    1. [GACARROL] Elizabeth GENTRY & Andrew SHELLNUT
    2. I descend from Elizabeth GENTRY, who was supposedly born March 11,1775 in SC and who died March 16, 1854 in Carroll Co. GA. These dates came from her tombstone, I believe. She married Andrew SHELLNUT ca 1797. I'm not sure where they married, but some researchers say Franklin Co. GA. They had the following children: John, Rebekah, William, Lavina, David, Thomas, Polly D, Susannah, Laura, Elizabeth, Andrew Joseph, Henry, and Nathaniel (my ancestor). Andrew SHELLNUT was the son of George and Catherine SCHIELTKNIGHT who, in 1765, had a land grant for 350 acres at Cuffietown Creek, near Londonborough, often called Londonderry, 96th District (Edgefield) SC. George and Catherine were immigrants from Germany, possibly Breslau. George was born ca 1728 and Catherine ca 1736. There were two GENTRY men listed on a 1778-1779 SC jury list for that area: Nicholas "about Cuffee Town and Turkey Creek" and John "near Ninety-six Court House." Hezekiah GENTRY was listed as in Spartan District, which is not as close as the other two. Was Elizabeth's father Nicholas or John? Or were they her brothers? She did name her firstborn son John, but was that simply a coincidence? I appreciate any help you can give on this line, and I'd love to hear from any "cousins" out there. Vickie Elam White

    3. Hello, Hopefully there are some Landers researchers out there on this list. I cant seem to pin down my 2nd Great Grand Father "Franklin Landers", I can only assume that he was most likely born in the 1840's and death est around 1905??? I found the following on the Carroll County 1860 Census index... 111 Landers F. A. M653 113 588 Bowdon PO District 9 Im hopeing that someone has seen a more complete census other than an index that would offer up a little more info as to tell me if this "F.A Landers Could be my Franklin Or tell who he was married to, I have mine tenitively being married to A "Fuller" but for sure any of the below children could be listed as "Members of Household"..... 3. Looking for parents of Spence children: James ( b1860) Nancy E (b1862) Wilson A (b1864)George C (b6Apr1866) Martha (b1868) Mary (b1870) Living in household of Nancy Spence, born Ga, age 47, widow, 1880 Van Zandt County Census, Texas having come to Texas from Georgia. Since the census info states the father was born Ga & mother born Tennessee, Nancy Spence could be an aunt. Both parents of these children died by 1873. George Coleman Spence was raised in Emory, Texas from age 7 in 1873 to age 20 in 1886 (when he married Mary Belle Kellet/Killette from Van Zandt County) by a Dr Duffey who was also from Georgia. Dr Duffey's father was born in Ireland & could have been a McDuffie & could have been connected to the Spence families in Georgia. George was a farmer & followed law enforcement, serving as Sheriff of Rains County & living in the jail in Emory. How he housed 13 kids in that small place is beyond reason. Anyone having any knowledge of M C H Spence from Harris County - please drop me a line - would really enjoy & appreciate hearing from you.

    1. [GACARROL] Mary Lee Hayes
    2. Cory Bowen
    3. I am researching a Mary Lee Hayes born possibly in Alabama about 1833. She was, from family folklore, a full blooded cherokee indian. She married my 3rd great grandfather in 1853 in Carroll County, Georgia. The Hayes family was supposed to have hid in the caves of Floyd County, Georgia near the Cave Springs area, when the round up of the indians was being done. She was about 4 or 5 years old from the stories that I have heard. How do I go about doing research on this individual? There are some strong indian traits that are still highly visible within the family still to this day. Please help, Cory Bowen.

    1. [GACARROL-L] POSEY-CHRISTIAN, GA 1800s
    2. I have just found out that a Sarah H. POSEY, daughter of Thomas POSEY and Mary HODGKINS, may be my ancestor. She supposedly married William B. CHRISTIAN and lived in Elbert Co. GA until about 1827. Then they moved to Newton Co. GA until late 1830, then they moved to Fayette Co. GA. I descend from their possible daugher, Lucinda Jane CHRISTIAN. Lucinda and her twin sister Eliza Jane were born on 2 Nov 1819. Lucinda married Nathaniel SHELLNUT in Fayette Co. GA in 1829 and Eliza married Barney WESTBROOK in Fayette Co. GA in 1837. Nathaniel and Lucinda settled in Carroll Co. GA, where Nathaniel founded the town of Bowdon. Any relatives out there? Any additions or corrections to this info? Vickie Elam White

    2. Doug Mccurdy
    3. Hello, I need information on Georgia McCurdy's. I am searching for information on a John McCurdy who married Malinda Goodson in Carroll Co. Georgia in 1841. I have found other McCurdys that were married in Carroll Co. at about the same time as John. (Robert T. McCurdy and William McCurdy). I believe that they could be brothers. I have also found several McCurdys that are buried in Carroll Co. Possible fathers could be James McCurdy or Robert J. McCurdy as each of these men were awarded land in the Georgia Land Lottery of 1827. James was listed as a soldier if that helps. Please Help, Doug McCurdy

    3. I can only give you some clues..my own family of Custers and Keowns and Youngs, came to Karnes and Live Oak Counties in Texas, from Marion Co. Ala. In Live Oak Co my GGF had a neighbor, John T. Curry who had married a Narcissa Waller, and is listed in the history books as being Alabama born. He was a Civil War Veteran. He was in Texas in 1861 and his name is on the ratification list to secede from the Union. (Narcissa was the daughter of Henderson Waller, and the marriage took place in Texas). Henderson Waller was in Texas by 1856, and came from Tennessee, his wife was Sophia Warren Hardwick, in case you can connect names out of the past. Live Oak was settled early after the Revolution by Irish from Ireland, but after Texas joined the Union in 1845, many Irish started migrating from Alabama. Other Alabama names are Edwards, Young, Pugh, Brennan, King, James, Rix, Ryan and many others. I hope somehow this might lead you to Alabama then to Texas. Just a longshot.
