    3. Hal, I did a quick check through the book and the only variation of Hesterly I found was for a Hesterlee. The following is what I found: 1) Page 33 - Mrs. Velma Jordan, 87, states her father, Tom M. Hamrick, moved from Villa Rica to Sand Hill in 1894, opened and operated a general merchandise store at Sand Hill. Dr. Durrett had a store here and Abb Scroggins added a lean-to building to Durrett's store for photography. Others who operated stores were Nick, Wringer, Birdo Crawford, Ollis Brasher, Will Hesterlee, Jack Kelley, Coon Hesterlee, Britt Thompson, V. B. Dickson, Tom Brasher, John White, Claribel Snelling, Albert Williams, Raymond Ricks and Wayne Otewell. 2) Page 33 - Many boys in this area were called into service in World War I. Included Dalton Hesterlee, Charlie Vines, Reese Jordan, Wilbur Phillips, Bartow Hesterlee. 3) Page 35 - In 1936 land was purchased from Dr. H. C. Garst across the highway from the former school building and in 1936-1937 a modern brick building was erected consisting of four classrooms and auditorium. On Aug. 27, 1937 a cornerstone was laid. Withe the inscription on the stone were the names C. Hyde, J. H. Broom, D. M. Hesterlee, B. P. Hesterlee, and Sam White, with G. C. Sewell, builder and L. A. Muse, Superintendent. I hope this is of some help to you. I have a copy the Sand Hill portion of one of these books(somewhere!), most of which seemed to me fairly recent. Whichever book it came from, the Sand Hill section had my grandfather, Doctor Ira Garst in several places. Amoong other things, it mentions that he made house calls in the early 1900s by motorcycle. He used to say he couldn't afford a car and the motorcycle was better company than a horse. Also a note about the "new" school--he sold them the land--where I started first at age 4. My grandfather marched me in and said, "You WILL take this child." No one argued! If I have time to dig it out in a day or two, I'll gladly post bits of it--but again, I have only the Sand Hill portion. Karen Dale Larkspur CO

    3. I would also be interested in this book. I remember seeing one at the Floyd County Library in Rome, GA several years ago. I have a book titled "The Sesquicentennial-Bicentennial Edition of the Carroll County Story - By the People." It was printed in May 1976. Although, it deals with the old communities, towns, churches, schools, business, and historic sites, it does contain a lot of photographs and names of the people associated with them. This book does NOT have an index. I received this book, several years ago, by calling the Chamber of Commerce in Carrollton and asking about it. The woman I talked to said that they still had several left over and was most happy to mail one to me, at no cost. I though that was really nice of them. I really enjoyed some of the photographs, such as the first school bus in America. This book contains 80 pages. 1. [GACARROL] Nixon - Carroll Co., GA
    2. Hi, I would love to hear from anyone that thinks some of these folks sound familar. Abner Nixon is in the index for the 1850 & 1860 census of Randolph Co., AL (have not viewed either of these). He serves in the Civil War from Carroll Co. GA (His foot is amputated) and his is in the index to GA CSA Pensions as filing in Carroll Co., GA. He and his descendents have move to Carroll Co., AL by 1880 and seem to remain there though at least the 1920 census. I am also trying to determine if Abner is kin to the Nixons of Coweta Co., GA, some of whom ended up in Carroll Co., GA coincidentally by 1880, too. Thank you for your time.
