Could someone possibly look up an obit for me on the following person.... Ida Smith d. Nov. 15th 1971 in Villa Rica, GA. (Carroll Co. GA) Thank's, Pat
Greetings Carroll County researchers, I thought I would post information about my web site for the new members, or anyone else who has not checked it out and would like to. Ancestors of Johnny & Angie Cook at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jcook/ has information about Carroll County, Georgia. My mother and father both are from Carroll County and I have information on many surnames from both sides, too many to list here. Click on the "Gedcoms" to view my files. I also have my brick walls listed on the site and some stories and history about Carroll County. Feel free to use my guestbook to post any queries related to Carroll County. If anyone has any web site with Carroll County information I would like to link to your site from my page. Send me an e-mail and let me know. Also, is there a Web Ring for Carroll County, Georgia? I would be interested in joining if there is. Let me know if you have relations to any of the surnames on my site. Thanks. Johnny Cook.
I checked out this site: http://www.mindspring.com/~swampfox/Carroll_County/Cemeteries/Carroll_Cemete ries.htm Camp Cemetery is listed, but there is no information about it. At the bottom of the page it says: "If you would like to help with Carroll County Cemeteries, please e-mail me at: swampfox@mindspring.com " You might give them a try. Gail, That is great information except for one thing. Carroll Co. is in the 770 area code. The name of the library is the Neva Lomason Library. They have a great geneology room. Hi Trisha: And the rest of the Carroll County list, I have decided to post this hear because I also know this will find it way into the Archives of this list as well for people who may join up later on so here goes: Yes there is a book on Carroll County Cemeteries. To get information from home (where ever you may live in the world) Dial 1 + 912-555-1212 this is the number for information tell them Carroll County, GA and or Carrollton for the City in Carroll County, GA. Then ask for the phone number for the City Library there. Now they are open 7 days a week...............yes this is correct Monday thru Sunday!! I was surprised myself. but this is true. I don't recall the hours but just keep trying. Ok now this book that you are needing It is indexed in the back, the name is "Cemeteries of Carroll County, GA" Ok easy enough. Inside this book it lists all of the known cemeteries at the time it was written. It tells how to find the Cemetery on each of the listed pages for that listed Cemetery. It then lists all of the information from the tombstones at the listed Cemetery. Now if you only need like one page or two pages. They may offer to copy those and mail them to you at no cost. However I would suggest that a donation be sent in return to the Library as a thank you. If you need several pages ask them to please copy them and mail them to you and offer to pay them for the copies. They will even copy for you the title page complete with Copyright page. The library and the Historical Society did this book I believe they told me, anyway they haver permission to copy parts of the book just not the whole thing to make money off of. They may even be able to tell you how to buy your own copy of this book you could ask them. They are some of the sweetest people you will ever meet by phone! Hope this help you guys out. Seeking information on WILLIAM J. FOWLER (1849-1919) possibly living in Carroll Co. in 1870 or 1880 with wife ----- OWENS and possibly brother GEORGE W. FOWLER (1852-1928). Children were supposedly LUTHER FOWLER (1885-1937), LULA FOWLER, CECIL FOWLER (female), WALTER FOWLER & JOHN FOWLER. -----Owens may have died and may be buried in Carroll County. William may have taken the children and moved to Hightower, Cleburne Co., AL. There is a second wife, SARAH MARGARET FOWLER and 4 more children, Annie, Lee, Warner and Fred.. WILLIAM J. FOWLER is buried in cemetery at Ranburne Baptist Church in Ranburne, Ala., along with second wife SARAH MARGARET FOWLER and brother GEORGE WILSON FOWLER. Many Fowlers there, but no Owens. Need ancestor info (parents, siblings) on WILLIAM J. and need first name, birth, death, etc. of wife ---OWENS. Any information greatly appreciated. Will share anything I have. WILLIAM is my great-grandfather. Judy Fowler Kilgore Newnan, GA
Carolyn, I have no information about this family, but think I can answer a question or two. Type of instrument QC ( What is this?) - Probably a quitclaim deed. Might (but not necessarily) indicate a family relationship between grantee and grantor. If there was a family relationship, perhaps he quitclaimed the land to her as he was going off to war just in case he didn't make it back????? That might also explain the length of time between the date on the deed and the date of recording. This is all purely speculation on my part. Kind of instrument SHERIFF (Why?) Could have been a foreclosure/sheriff's sale? Kind of instrument W Deed Could mean Warranty Deed. Hope this helps. Pam

No date was given) Date of filing (Was blanK) Kind of instrument W Deed Is there a copy of the will that I could get? Book P page 735 In doing some research I am comming up blank on some questions. We had always been told that Mary Ann Winters Byers (Deliliah's daughter) had homsteaded (which I've been told they didn't do) 160 acres of land somewhere around Atlanta, (Campbell or Carroll ) They had gotten married in 1860. They had to build a house on it and live there 5 years. Mr. Byers was killed in the Civil war. In 1870 census Mary Ann WINTERS using maiden name - her sisters did the same thing, is listed with 3 sons in Carroll co., Carrollton, Ga. 5th Dist. Value of land 200. She married Mr. __Glaze in 1871 - 1873 and left her land (to her kin folks?) and they moved to Etowah Co.., Ala. What happened to the land ?? is this the land that Deliliah is on? I am trying to find descendants of the WINTERS and am hoping legal document will hold some of the clues. What happend to NJ KNIGHT's land? Did she sell Let me know if you can make copies of these documents for me I will gladly pay whatever it costs for your time and expenses. Thank you for you help. Recently there was a post to this list from someone regarding the Carroll County census. If anyone has the index I would so much appreciate a look-up for 1870. I have not been able to find Silas TANNER or Sarah Adeline TANNER anywhere in 1870. He reportedly died in 1875 (place unk) and in 1880 she and the kids are back in Cherokee Co., AL. As he had connections in Carroll Co, GA I thought maybe he was there in 1870. They were married in Polk Co., GA in 1860. It is a long shot but nothing else has worked. So if anyone can assist me, I would be most grateful. Patsy Spradley Davis -- http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~davisdwd/ ICQ #15893205
Can anyone do a lookup for me on the 1840 Carroll County census? I would like to know the family members and their ages in the home of Jesse W. Morrow, page 084 and also for Leonard Morrow on page 096. This particular census at the archives, here, only goes up to page 76! Thank you. -- Dianne

Hi All, I just joined this list because I heard from a friend that my GG Grandparents lived in Carroll County. They were ROBERT M AND ELIZABETH NEWTON. Robert's parents were THOMAS E. & ELIZA, I believe. Robert and Elizabeth were married on December 2, 1858 in Carroll County, Georgia. This has been a brick wall for a very long time, and I need help in finding anything about this family, from all you wonderful researchers in this county. I also have a JAMES M. NEWTON, born 2-11-1832--5-27-1901 MARTHA F. NEWTON, born 5-22-1836--11-16, 1906. They both were in Carroll County I think, and were buried in Hunt County, Texas. I have heard from relatives that these Newton's were related to Sir Isaac Newton, but have not found the connection yet Can anyone help me find out more about this family, or suggest where I might look on the net. Thanks for you time, Alaine in California equilla@psnw.com
My only information is that Mary Frances Cochran, b. 2 Jul 1850 in Cochran,Bleckley,GA, m. 11 Dec 1973 in carroll co. GA to George William Brock, d. 11 Oct 1885 likely in Villa Rica, Carroll co. It not only lists your birthday, (day month and year) but also your full name, your town and zip code. It may have to do with phone numbers, I have an unlisted number and I wasn't on it. Neither was my daughter. But my brother, sister-in-law and mother were. It's not "sinister" Bill, just an invasion of my privacy. Judy in Newnan, GA
