    1. GIPSON/GIBSON; help!!!!
    2. Hello all, I'm wondering if someone could do a marriage lookup for me. Hail or Hale GIPSON or GIBSON to a Mary DEAN (I think). His name could have been John Hale GIPSON or George Hale GIPSON. I'm getting conflicting stories on his first name, but he must have gone by Hale because that is the name I have found on census records. They were in Carroll County in 1880 with 5 year old son, William, so they probably married early 1870's. Does anyone have any information on this family? I have been unable to find him prior to the 1880 census. I've been beating my head against that old brick wall. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Pam

    1. [GACARROL] AUSTIN - SC to GA
    2. I descend from Irena Jane AUSTIN, born ca 1817 in SC. She married John ELAM of Chester Co. SC and DeKalb Co. GA about 1835. According to John's 1888 obituary, Irena was the daughter of William AUSTIN of Gwinnett Co. GA (next-door to DeKalb Co. GA). John and Irena lived in DeKalb Co. GA for a few years, then moved to Stewart Co. GA by 1840. They stayed there for a few years, then returned to DeKalb Co. GA and settled in Lithonia. Then they moved to Carrollton, Carroll Co. GA ca 1849. They remained there for the rest of their lives. According to John ELAM's obituary, William AUSTIN was the grandfather of George W. AUSTIN, who was living in Carrollton, Carroll Co. GA in 1888. John ELAM was the son of George Phillips ELAM and Mary POTTS of Chester Co. GA and DeKalb Co. GA. John had a sister named Cynthia who married John C. or B. AUSTIN ca 1828, probably in DeKalb Co. GA. John C. AUSTIN was born in SC ca 1806. Was he also a son of William AUSTIN? I'd appreciate any help on this AUSTIN family. Vickie Elam White

    2. Hello -- Does anyone have access to the Campbell Co marriage records? I know Martha J. Nixon married Moses M. Smith, 1st. I have the marriage record. But now I found the will for Martha J. Smith naming her husband, A. B. Smith. I think A. B. is Moses's brother, Abner B. Smith. **Is there a marriage record for Abner B. Smith marrying a Martha Smith?** I know Moses is desceased by 1890 per his mother's will. Thank You! 1. [GACARROL] renamed I-85 exit for Coweta Co. Gen Soc Library
    2. Hello -- Several folks on these mailing lists have asked for places to research in Coweta Co., GA area. One of the best is the Coweta Co. Genealogical Society Library in the Old Train Depot in Grantville, GA. The state of GA has re-numbered the Interstate exits this year. Therefore, to get to the CCGS Library, you now take EXIT 35 in Grantville and follow the signs to the old Depot. (Older/pre-2000 directions will tell you to take exit 7). 1. [GACARROL] Fowlers in Carroll Co
    2. Looking for descendants/relatives of JOSEPH (JOEL) FOWLER, b. abt 1861 in GA, who moved to Bowdon, Carroll Co., GA from Hightower, Cleburne Co., AL, and lived there with his second wife, ELLEN TWEDELL or TWEEDLE. Joel and Ellen are said to be buried in the Bowdon City Cemetery. Joel is the son of JOHN O. FOWLER (b. abt 1826, d. aft 1873) and SARAH ANN NORRIS FOWLER, of Gwinnett and Campbell counties in GA. Joel, is found in the 1870 Campbell County census, Fairburn District, age 9, living with his parents and older siblings GEORGE WILSON FOWLER, b. 1852 and MOLLIE (Mary Kate) FOWLER, b. 1854. His older siblings were married by 1870 and living in Campbell Co. also, Campbellton District. They are: NANCY ELIZABETH FOWLER, b. 1848, m. John Pierce Walker, and WILLIAM J. FOWLER, b. 1849, m. Lula (Lucy) Owen(s). By 1880, Joel is found in the Cleburne Co., AL census, age 18, with his mother, Sarah Ann, a widow. John Fowler apparently died sometime after 1873 (John appears on a Grand Jury list in Fairburn in 1873) and is said to be buried in Campbell Co (now South Fulton). Also in Cleburne in 1880 (they lived in Hightower,AL) were Nancy Elizabeth Fowler Walker and her family, William J. Fowler and his family, George Wilson Fowler and Mary Kate Fowler who married A.J. "Jack" White. Joel Fowler married (1) Eliza Ballenger sometime before 1882, and they had a daughter who died in infancy. She is buried in Ranburne. Eliza died in 1894 and Joel remarried (2) Ellen Twedell or Tweedle. All of the above are buried in the Ranburne First Baptist Church cemetery except John Fowler, his son Joel Fowler, and Joel's 2nd wife Ellen. I do not know whether Joel and Eliza had any more children. Joel's older brother, William J. Fowler, is my great-grandfather. Trying to find any information about Joel's family to add to my family tree. Any help appreciated. Thanks... Judy Fowler Kilgore JodieK444@aol.com Newnan, GA

    2. Mr. Bryant and the other members of the Coweta Co., & Carroll Co., GA Mailing Lists: Since Mr. Bryant has inquired about this former county of Georgia, I thought I would post the information as there may be other like myself who have never lived in GA. I did not know of the existence of "Old Campbell Co." until I had given up in frustration, trying to figure out "Where did they go??" This description is from the main page of the Campbell Co., GA Gen Web page. If you go to the site, scroll down and you will see a map that shows it's former location. It has come in quite handy to know about "Old Campbell" if you are researching in the Coweta/Carroll area. The URL is: http://www.mindspring.com/~swampfox/Campbell_County/Campbell.htm "Campbell County was formed by an act of the Georgia Legislature December 20, 1828 taking land from Carroll, Coweta, DeKalb, and Fayette Counties. In 1832 land from the Cherokee Land Lottery was added, for a total to about 192 square miles. On October 17, 1870 the land lying north of the river was taken along with some of eastern Carroll to form what is now Douglas County. The rest merged with Fulton on January 1, 1932. Campbell County was named in honor of Colonel Duncan G. Campbell. He and James Meriwether negotiated the Indian Springs Treaty in which the Creek Indian land was ceded on February 12, 1825. The County seat was Campbellton until 1870. It was then moved to Fairburn where it remained for the life of the county. In the marriage license (basement) bureau of the Ordinary's office in Fulton County, are stored both Campbell County and Milton County marriage license records. They also store on micro film, copies of the Atlanta Journal/Constitution news paper, going back many years. They also have wills, deeds, estate records, etc." Good Luck, Valerie Freeman Santa Ana, California Researching: Nixon in GA/AL Lochbaum/Laughbaum in PA/OH Cherry in MD/PA/OH/IA ------------------------- Original message: Subj: Re: [GACOWETA] Fwd: Coweta Co Gen Soc Newsletter Date: 6/28/2000 6:33:32 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: bryants@jps.net (Bob & Judy Bryant) To: VCJFreeman@aol.com What part of the GA we know and love did Campbell Co encompass?
