I am researching an individual by the name of Andrew Jackson Bowen Sr. He was born about 1819 somewhere in Georgia. Location at this point is unknown. He has turned up in the Eastern Alabama area as well as Carroll County and Haralson County Georgia. He married a Mary Lee Hays in June of 1853 in Carroll County Georgia. He had two children with him before this marriage, which may lead me to believe that he may have been married once before Mary. The Children that were living with him and Mary at the 1860 Census of Carroll County were as follows: James Bowen born about 1846 in Alabama; Lucinda Bowen born about 1848 in Alabama also; Christian C. Bowen born about 1854 in Georgia; John Lunsford Bowen born Sept. 27, 1855 in Georgia, died June 29, 1917 in Anniston, Alabama; Nancy Bowen born about 1859; and Andrew Jackson Bowen Jr. born March 30, 1860 in Carroll County, Georgia, died July 17, 1945 in Cedartown, Georgia. Andrew Jackson Bowen Sr. enlisted in the 35th Regiment, Company "A" of the Haralson County Guards of the Northern Virginia Army C.S.A. on August 15, 1861. He died in battle on July 12, 1865 in Richmond, Virginia. He is buried at the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. I do not have any additional information other than what I have listed here. If anyone has any additional information please advise of such information. Thank you, Cory Bowen.

Hi Scott & Zoocrew, Thought this might be useful. I scanned it from FLORIDA LINES, the newletter of the Florida State Genealogical Society Inc. Gayle ***************** Dawes Rolls Now On Internet The American Indians who were accepted on the final rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes as members of the Seminole, Cherokee and Creek tribes - 50,000 people, more or less - can now be searched on the internet. The records of the Choctaw and Chickasaw are not yet ready but will be completed soon. This record was produced for members of the Dawes Commission from 1898 to 1914 in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). It was required that each person applying had to prove their ancestry and tribal affiliation. The evidentiary documents are included in case files of those who did apply which is a wonderful source of information for today's genealogist. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has a NARA archival information locator (NAIL), which is an interactive database on a wide variety of NARA's holdings. This source is updated weekly. Search the website at: http://www.nara.gov/nara/nail.html The above announcement was given by the KINDLING, Newsletter of the Genealogical Society of Santa Rosa County, Florida. ***************

I am researching the Bowen Family. I am looking for any information from any individuals who are researching the Bowen Family Tree. I am looking for any Bowen families pre 1850 for the Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, And North Carolina areas. I have traced my family back to a Andrew Bowen who was born in 1819 in Georgia. I am not sure of how many areas were populated in the 1820 era of Georgia, but if you have the Bowen family in your research please advise of such. My Bowen family was living in the Carroll County, Polk County, Floyd County of Georgia. The counties of Randolph and Clay in Alabama also. I have traced back to Andrew Jackson Bowen Sr. who was born in 1819 somewhere in Georgia. He married a Mary Lee Hays from Early County, Georgia in 1853 in Carroll County, Georgia. He later served in the 35th Regiment Company "A" of the Haralson County Guards of the Northern Virginia Army C.S.A. He died in Richmond, Virginia on July 12, 1864 in Battle. He was a Private in this regiment. I am submitting this information in hopes that someone is doing the same research on this family as I am. Thank you, Cory Bowen.
Greetings...I am new to the list and would like to post my connections to get on record. My ggg-grandmother, Mary Amanda (Anderson) Murphy, married Enoch Stephens 1st, in Talladega Co., AL in 1838...when he died she married Andrew Murphy of Fayette Co., GA. Mary Amanda and Enoch's son, William M. Stephens, married Martha A. Cobb of Carroll Co., GA in 1861 in Calhoun Co., AL. Martha Cobb's parents were Nathaniel Cobb and Luranah Teague. Would love to hear from any connections. Jane Stephens Rhem
The Garsts lived from 1830-1963 between Carollton and Villa Rica (used to be called the Bankhead Hwy). They were the only Garst family in GA. Christopher Garst and Sarah Coltharp moved to GA from TN 1826 and had fifteen children. I can account for only a handful of those children--my ggf, Philip, several killed in the Civil War, Martha Garst (b. 1826) who married Isaac Kinney, Jim Garst who survived the war but abandoned his children--Carrie, Chris and Arthur. According to the notes from my gf, "Doc" Garst, most of the girls married and moved to Arkansas and TX. Recently I found an odd census entry with a Garst link: in the 1870 census, living with a widow, Melinda GROCE, is a Martha Garst age 22, and baby Sarah Garst, b. May 1880. I have NO IDEA who these two people are, but the Groce and Garst families are only a few houses away from each other. And yes, there are several young Garst men living at home--Philip, age 19, and Robert, age 20. Philip was courting a school teacher 10 years older than he. They married and he lived on the property until his death in 1937. I have no idea what happened to Robert. Could Sarah Garst be his child? Does anyone know the name GROCE? I think the same child is still living with her grandmother in 1880, but she's listed there as Sarah M.Groce, granddaughter, age 10, GA. No sign of Martha. Groce sons included William, b. 1862, Bluford, b. 1867, George, b. 1871. Could use any clues at all! Trying to reconstruct this family is a giant jigsaw puzzle! Karen Dale
Anney Elizabeth COOK, daughter of E.M. COOK, was born about 1839 in GA. On 15 August 1858 in Carroll Co. GA, she married Robert C. PARKER, son of Allen and Nancy PARKER. Robert C. was born abt 1828 in GA. Anney Elizabeth had a sister named either Harriet or Hortense COOK who was listed as age 26, born in GA, and living in the household of Anney's family on the 1870 Clay Co. AL census. On the 1880 Clay Co. AL census, Anney's father, E.M. COOK is listed living with the family. He was shown as age 65 and born in NC. Hopefully someone on this list can shed some light on the family of Anney and Robert. I am researching the PARKER line and need help with Robert's family. Based on census records, these are the children I have listed for Anney and Robert: 1. Sarah M., born abt 1856 in GA 2. William A., born abt 1859 in GA (marr. to Sophrona S. MONCUS in 1877 in Clay Co. AL.) 3. Mary A., born abt 1861 4. Martha A., born 1862/1864 in AL, died 1900 (marr. to A.P. OSLIN in 1877 in Clay Co. AL) 5. Rosa Lee, born abt 1872 in Clay Co. AL 6. Robert A., born abt 1879 in Clay Co. AL Thanks. Kim Austin
Martha P. ADERHOLT (or ADERHOLD/ADDERHOLD), the daughter of George W. ADERHOLT and Nancy BAILEY, was born in January 1844 in Carroll Co. GA. According to W.B. Cash's book, THE ADERHOLD/T COLLECTION, Martha P. was a twin to Mary C. ADERHOLT. On August 18, 1870, Martha married Moses Andrew Jackson "Mose" SPARKS. He was the son of Uriah SPARKS and Sarah WHATLEY, born in July 1844 in Carroll Co. GA. "Mose" died on 13 December 1935 in Carroll Co. at the age of 91 years. I do not have a death date for Martha. From census records these are names of children I have: Alzano E. SPARKS (female) born Feb. 1875 Mary L. SPARKS, born 1876 Louisa or Laura B. SPARKS,b ron 1878 Ada L.S. SPARKS, born Dec 1883 The 1900 Carroll Co. GA census shows a grandson named James B., born Marhc 1896 living in the household with Moses and Martha. Daughters Alzano E. and Ada L.S. are also listed in the household. In 1902, Moses filed a CSA pension application. In it he stated that his family consisted of a wife, one 18 year old daughter and an 8 year old grandchild. I have more information on the Sparks ancestry but need help with this particular family and its descendants. Thanks. Kim Austin
On 23 December 1888 in Carroll Co. GA, Malissa E. SPARKS, daughter of William H. SPARKS and Elizabeth HOUSEWORTH, married a "Dock" BOATRIGHT (or BOATWRIGHT). Information on the 1900 census for Carroll Co. lists his birthdate as April 1869 and Malissa's as January 1872 in GA. Apparently Dock's mother was named Mary C. She lived in the same household with Dock's family at the time of the 1900 census. I have quite a bit of info on Malissa's ancestry but need info on Malissa herself as well as her husband and their children. From census records, I was able to determine the following children: James R. BOATRIGHT, born April 1891 in Carroll Co. William O. BOATRIGHT, born Nov 1893 in Carroll Co. Cora M. BOATRIGHT, born Oct 1897 in Carroll Co. If you have any information on this family, I would appreciate your assistance. I will gladly share what I have. Thanks. Kim Austin
Delona Oregon LASSETTER, daughter of William H. LASSETTER and Parthenia L. BROWN, was born 17 July 1847 in Carroll Co. GA and died there 16 May 1929. On 11 December 1868 she married Joseph M. SPARKS, son of Uriah SPARKS and Sarah WHATLEY. He was born 1843/44 and died 11 April 1908. This may not be a complete list of children, but this is what I have: Lara E. SPARKS, born May 1871/73 (marr. to John H. MOORE in 1895) Lilla SPARKS, born abt 1873 (marr. to J.S. WILLIAMS in 1889) Eugenia SPARKS, born abt 1875 Ida SPARKS, born 1 August 1877 (marr. to James M. "Jim" GLADNEY) Barto R. SPARKS, born Oct 1878 Guy SPARKS, born June 1887 (marr. to Levie WILLIAMS in 1909) If you have any information on this family or descendants from it, please contact me. I have been working on the Sparks line and have more on Joseph Sparks' ancestry but very little on Joseph's immediate family. Thanks. Kim Austin

Hello, If need help with any of the following people later that 1850, please let me know. I might be able to help you. If you know anything about them, before or after 1850, please contact me. Maybe we can help each other. Listed as housekeeper for Henry CASH in 1850 Campbell Co, GA, was Martha HALL. They married in 1851. Children listed appeared to be HALL children, but later census showed them to be MCBRIDE children. 1850 Campbell Co, GA. CASH, Henry C. 47 GA William 17 " Katherine 13 " Jefferson 11 " Richard 5 " McBRIDE, Pinkney A. Jane Y. Mary (My ancestor) Lucinda HALL, Martha 40 housekeeper. (MCBRIDE???) Your clue might be just what I need, and I might have something in my files to help you. I would love to help you with this family! Jean
Are there any Teagues online who are related to Thompsons from Carroll County? I remember my mother's cousin, Grady Teague, now deceased. He's the only one I met of the family. Thanks. Betty
Any assistance in finding parents for my g2gfather would be very, very much appreciated!! This is all I know about him: THOMAS S. JORDAN (orJORDON/JOURDAN/JOURDAIN/etc.) 1832 - Born - 3 January, Macon, Bibb county, Georgia (according to his obit). Both parents born in GA (according to later census). 1832-1847 - ??????????? 1847 - apprenticeship in "the Advertiser" office (this is from his newspaper obit in Ashland, AL - I am assuming that this means the Montgomery Advertizer) 1850 - I can not find him on a census. 1852 - foreman of the job office that printed the Code of Alabama (Montgomery) 1859 - 10 October, at Wedowee, Alabama, m. Mary Creel, b. 27 February, 1838, Carroll county, GA; daughter of Jordan Creel(s/o George Creel, who was a descendant of John Creel of VA) and Mary(Polly) White (d/o of Zachariah White of MA). 1860 - Randolph Co., AL, Wedowee, Dwelling 17: T.G.W. Jourdan 28 yrs, male, Printer, born in GA, married within the yr Mary " 22 yrs, female, HW, born in GA, married within the yr Cinthia " 38 yrs, female, HW, born in SC FACT: Thomas G.W. Jordan m. Cynthia SMITH in Harris County, GA, July 14, 1853. FACT: Thomas S. and Mary Creel married in 1859. Apparently, either (1) Thomas S. and Thomas G.W. are the same man, and he is a bigamist OR (2) the man listed in the census above is Thomas S., not Thomas G. W., and T. S. is living in T. G. W.'s home with both his wife and T.G.W.'s wife - this being the case, where is Thomas G.W.??? WHO is Thomas G.W.??? Widowed father of Thomas S. who remarried? Cinthia died in the summer of 1860 after a 2 mos. "fever", and was listed as "married", rather than "widow" in the mortality book, so Thomas G.W. was still alive in 1860. 1860 - July 21 - son born in Randolph county, Alabama; Joseph Wiley Jordan. He practiced medicine in Ashland, Clay county, Alabama until his death in 1951 - also served in state legislature in 1930s and was associated with newspapers. 1862 - son, William Dotson, born - d. 1915 (Thomas and Mary adopted a daughter, Mary Dison, during this period, who died at age 7) Civil War activity - Thomas was a courier for the Confederacy between West Point, GA and Talladega, AL 1872-1876 - Worked at newspaper in Opelika, AL 1876-1878 - Published The Coosa News at Goodwater, Alabama with his sons. Coosa county history has a Thomas Jordan listed as a long-term resident of Marble Valley in NW Coosa county - is this my Thomas S., or his father, or one of the other Thomas Jordans? 1878 - moved to Ashland, Clay county, Alabama. Published the second newspapers ever in the town of Ashland. 1894 - 9:15 PM, 6 May, died in Ashland as a result of sepsis following a rooster bite. Given that he was in good health prior, his obit would probably have not been pre-written, so I dare not rely on it too much - but it is, in many cases, all I have. Thomas S. was a Baptist, a Mason - had a Mason's funeral - was active in politics - obit was in the Ashland paper and also in The People's Party Advocate (Democrat). He was known as and referred to as "Uncle" by political friends. He also owned and/or worked as a printer for many newspapers in GA/AL and other southern states, according to his obit. His son, Dr. Joseph Wiley Jordan, has a bio in ALABAMA AND HER PEOPLE which gives no genealogy past Thomas and Mary. Family history has an American Indian somewhere in his lines.
