Barbara, I am responding to a post you made on Nov 21st (see below) on the Hurst family from Burke County. My dad and his family were from Millen, Jenkins county, originally Burke County. My grandmother, Lena Getrude MESSEX PEEL, was the daughter of Sally NORRIS and Willie MESSEX. Sally's parents were Sabra HURST and James NORRIS. Sabra's parents were James Andrew HURST (b 1836) and Candacy Lena Burke. I wonder if we are related? Would love to share info with you. Thanks! Husband's family came from Munnerlyn, and Millen, Ga. Parents were born in Munnerlyn, JC (initials only) Hurst was his father, his mother was Carrie Jordan, pronounced Jourdan, he says. JC's parents also from Munnerlyn, were Joseph Hurst who married Emma Burke. His great grandfather was Aaron Hurst, who married Mary last name not known. JC had several brothers and sisters, namely Willie, Frank, EzeKiel (these three moved to Phil, Pa. There was also a Jim Henry, Robert, Diamond (adopted) Alvin, John, Mamie, Lilly Mae, Josie and Ida. JC left Munnerlyn and raised his family In Savannah, his children were Ida, Lois and Louis (twins) Samuel and my husband, Albert. Some family members were also known to have been in Millen and Sardis, Ga. Great grandmother said to be full blooded Indian? JC's brother Willie Hurst, married Sallie May (Mary) Powell on 7-21-1936. Aaron Hurst and Mary ? had six children, according to the 1890 Burke County Census, names were Amanda, Matilda, Mattie, James, Joseph , and Lily. Joseph Hurst's wife Emma Burke came from the Herrington's her mother"s name was Bethia Herrington, her father's name was Allen Burke. Bethia Herrington's mother's name was Lucy, only have first name.
