The census may have been transcribed incorrectly in the book, or the census taker possibly spelled it the wrong way. Many times the census taker didn't ask for a spelling, he or she simply spelled it the way they thought it should be spelled. Sometimes, the old cursive is often misinterpreted when being transcribed. I have found that in some of my own family. This list is only to be used as a starting point for your research.
