I wonder if you could denote or tell me when Burke Co. was set. We are researching the names of George Landon m. to Susan Burke as follows and we can not find any information on back to these two. Family story goes that Susan was disowned for mar. to George and that the county was named for her family, but we don't know who... They are my husband's gr grandparents, but we are not able to come search down there as we are in Illinois and do not find reference to them for where I have looked. Any help or poiters would be appreciated. Thanks, Ruth & Butch Descendants of Susan Burke Generation No. 1 1. SUSAN1 BURKE. She married GEORGE LANDON. Notes for SUSAN BURKE: Note sent on net to Ga. Burke Co. web page for info on Burke and am waiting for reply 7/1/99. Notes for GEORGE LANDON: Both George and Susan are buried in Piney Grove Cemetary in Jesup, Ga. There were possibly 4 more children born to George and Susan. Children of SUSAN BURKE and GEORGE LANDON are: i. BENNIE WALDON2 LANDON, b. April 10, 1894, Jesup, Georgia; d. August 30, 1961, Brunswick, Georgia; m. MARTHA LOU MURRAY, April 11, 1920, Jesup, Georgia. Notes for BENNIE WALDON LANDON: Bennie may have been born in Odum, Ga. Grandpa went by the name of Waldon to most people who knew him. In 1987, we visited Jesup and stopped at a small gas station (old fashioned pumps) and general store that was on the left side of the main highway, 24/341, from Brunswick to Jesup. The establishment was Landon's General Store or something like that. We found that the gentleman was a nephew of Bennie Waldon and cousin down the line to "Butch". We did not write down his name, but he refered us to another man back up the road toward Jesup living in a ranch type house with wire fenced in yard as another cousin. We went back to visit and indeed he was. He knew Uncle Buck and his daughters and told us a lot about the same people we had from Uncle Jim Murray and those that matched the names and stones from New Hope Cem. that we had visited that day. Unfortunately, I can not find his name/ misplaced that one... Letters received from Alice (m. Nathaniel) nee Pearson Landon (8/98) of Odum, Ga. and David A. Landon of Jesup (8/98). Notes as follows for these two, as I can not make the direct connection without more information: Nathaniel (NMI) Landon- b. ? d. 11/8/94 was one of 8 children to George Washington Landon- b. ? d. ? m. ?____ and had one brother ( Idon't know any others), Pede. George W. was a child of Mack (MI?)-b.? d. ? m. ? to Elizabeth?___ b. ? d. ? (parents of each are not known). If I knew more of Mack he could have been a brother to Bennie Waldon's father, George (MI?) Landon or cousin, etc. Pede (?spell.) had a son, Clyde. Clyde's son is W. C. (?) Landon married to Ruth ?____ as of 8/98 info. (***check down below with David A. info. ). Pede was an uncle to Nathaniel, as I understand. A John Landon is also noted as a brother, but I don't know if he is a brother to Pede & George or to Clyde. Alice (age 69 in '98) and Nathaniel m. 1948?, have a son, Donald married to Vicki with a daughter, Tori. They also have one (? 2) daughter, name??. David A. Landon (age 73 in '98) -b.? was the son of Clyde Landon (*** check up above!!! ) Clyde Landon was a "second cousin" to Bennie Waldon!!! He married Zona Stafford whose mother was Mary Edenfield... Glenview, Ga./ Wayne Co. were listed with these two names and I don't know if that is where they were born or whatever (***Note that a Martilla Edenfield married a Bob Duke on our side of the family, grandparents of Martha Murray, wife of Bennie Waldon Landon ). Lamar Landon is the son of David A. and wife D. of Jesup, Ga. (***Note, Alice Landon know them. Also note in chart that the third son of Verdie Landon Wright is named Barry Lamar...). >From this I can assume that Pede Landon (if we are talking about the same Clyde Landon in both sets of information ) was the "first cousin of Bennie Waldon. Therefore, the father of Pede and George Washington Landon was a brother to our George Landon (married to Susan Burke), we are all cousins... As of 7/98, the head stone for Bennie Waldon and Martha "Lulu" Landon was placed at their burial spot in New Hope Cemetary, Jesup, Ga. This completed the "family" plot area. The MURRAY siblings and/or spouses are all together - Martha & Bennie Landon, Marietta Ponsella (not sure of the "a" in last name), Cora & Ernest Pye, and Jimmy Murray (his wife, Lilliebelle, is still living in Brunswick as of 8/98). Notes for MARTHA LOU MURRAY: The family farm was 14 miles outside of Jesup. Martha went by the nickname of "Lula". ii. LORNA LANDON, m. TILLIS. Notes for LORNA LANDON: Son or husband's name was Trey iii. LULU LANDON, m. PERKINS. Notes for LULU LANDON: Son or husband's name was Leonard. Phone call to Alice (Nathaniel) Landon says that she knows of a man named Perkins still living and is possibly Leonard. She will get in touch with him to see if he is Lulu's husband and a listing of that side of the family. iv. FRANK LANDON. Notes for FRANK LANDON: According to "Butch", Frank supposedly invented the drop wheel on tractor trailers - a lock or something system that allows the tractor (cab) to drive away form trailers. This gave him a great deal of monetary income and his family was supposed to have lived on an island off the coast of Florida. A possible daughter of Frank's was met at a reunion in 1960, as "Butch" remembers, and she had come up from Florida where she lived on an island. He was invited to go back with her and spend the summer, but Verdie said no... Butch would have been 15. Alice (Nathaniel) Landon thinks there is a possible connection with a lady that attends the "Landon" family reunion each October... v. STEVEN LANDON. vi. GEORGE LANDON, JR.. Notes for GEORGE LANDON, JR.: Died by falling down a well. vii. JEFFREY LANDON. viii. CHARLES LANDON. Notes for CHARLES LANDON: This could have been the Uncle Charles that fell in the well, too. Will need to check with Verdie... Okay, he was the youngest and did fall in the well he was digging. Some of the bones in the head punctured the brain and he had "spells" after that. He was put in Milledgeville (insane asylum). Found out later that he could have had operation to relieve pressure, but his wife did not allow this as to her religion (Jehova Witness???) He lived out his life at the asylum running their farm. They possibly had 3 sons, one named Cleve, who worked with Verdie Landon Matousek at Sea-Pak Sea Foods, 11/99. --part1_46.2ec2e65.26075dbc_boundary--
