Charles, Eliphalet Whitaker and his wife Ruth Bayles Whitaker came from Havre de Grace, MD to Burke Co., GA and in 1788 he was granted land in Burke Co. (later Jefferson Co.) and lived near Louisville. According to one source with whom my sister corresponded (oral tradition) the Whitakers came with the Lawson's from NC to GA. Eliphalet's son Benjamin Whitaker married the daughter of Gov. David Emanuel. One of his sisters married a Lawson. I believe that the Whitakers may have had Alexander neighbors in Somerset Co., N.J. I will have to look for my notes on this. What surnames are connected with your Alexander family? Any Whitakers?
