    3. Seeking information about Matthew Williamson (1825-1855). If anyone can help me locate his descendants or his grave, I would be so grateful. Please read the following notes: MATTHEW M. WILLIAMSON was born 1825 in Emanuel County, GA, and died April 02, 1855 in Emanuel County. His parents were John Williamson and Elizabeth Sullivan. He married MARY FOUNTAIN June 14, 1841 in Emanuel County. She was born 1825, and died in FL?. Child of MATTHEW WILLIAMSON and MARY FOUNTAIN: JOHN WILLIAMSON, b. 1846, Emanuel County, GA; d. FL?. 1850 Census Emanuel County, GA #447 Matthew Williamson age 24 Mary age 24 John age 4 Matthew died when he was shot in the back by an onlooker as he mounted his horse to leave the scene of a duel in which he had killed his opponent. Original place of burial (in Emanuel County) unknown--assume he was buried in same cemetery with his father who died four years earlier...this old burial site has been lost to time. I learned the date of Matthew's death when I found the grave of the man he had killed. A nephew of Matthew told me that his remains were removed to Florida in later years by his children and some of his brothers were present when the remains were exhumed. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Madison County, Florida; therefore, he moved there from Georgia between 1850 and 1855. Only a few weeks prior to his death, he had sold all of his property in Georgia to his brother, Samuel. His estate was administered by his brother-in-law, Thomas J. Morris. There may be other children, but I don't have any further records. Your help will be appreciated. Olivia Williamson Saffold in Emanuel County, GA saffold@pineland.net

I don't think there is any connection to this family. Hugh came from South Carolina to GA. and then to Alabama. Do you have any info on Hugh? 1. Gore: Take down the Confederate Flag!
    2. Olivia
    3. (This information is provided by HPA for educational purposes.) January 15, 2000 Gore: Take Down Confederate Flag By HOLLY RAMER .c The Associated Press NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - Democrat Al Gore said Saturday the Confederate flag should come down from public buildings because it divides Americans. The vice president also accused the GOP presidential front-runner, George W. Bush, of dodging the issue to satisfy supporters who have ``pretty obsolete and even hateful attitudes.'' Gore, in a CNN interview with Jesse Jackson, said the flag represents ``for many Americans a hurtful message that recalls the pain of slavery'' and it should not be flown from the South Carolina Statehouse or other public buildings. ``The citizens of goodwill everywhere must take a position on it and see that in fact the American flag heals us and the Confederate flag divides us,'' he said. In an earlier breakfast speech, Gore criticized the Republican presidential field generally on the flag issue. ``It's troublesome to me that so many of the Republican candidates have spoken out against affirmative action and have been silent about the flying of the Confederate flag over the South Carolina Statehouse, which is obviously hurtful to so many Americans.'' Republican candidates competing in the Feb. 19 South Carolina primary are asked about the issue nearly every time they visit the state. Texas Gov. Bush says the question is for people in South Carolina to decide, a point reinforced by his campaign after Gore's criticisms. ``The governor has a position, and his position is that the people of South Carolina can figure the issue out,'' Bush spokeswoman Mindy Tucker said. Tucker also renewed criticisms that Gore campaign manager Donna Brazile has stoked racial divisiveness and said if Gore wants to upbraid people on race, he should start with her. Arizona Sen. John McCain, who normally speaks off-the-cuff, took the unusual step last week of reading from a prepared statement to say many in South Carolina view the flag as a ``symbol of heritage.'' That phrase is used by some Republicans who want the flag to continue flying over the Statehouse. Gore said on ``Both Sides with Jesse Jackson,'' taped Saturday for broadcast Sunday, that some Republicans have expressed hurtful language in the flag debate, apparently referring to a South Carolina state senator who called the NAACP the ``National Association for Retarded People.'' ``I think there is too much tolerance of intolerance,'' Gore said. ``And I think that that flag should be removed from the state capitol.'' He added: ``I think that he, Governor Bush, has avoided taking a position, or has ducked the issue because he is playing to some of his supporters that, I think, have some pretty obsolete and even hateful attitudes.'' Some flag supporters, as minorities see it, ``want to express views of racial superiority and support for discrimination,'' Gore said. Tucker said Bush has in fact repudiated the comments of the state senator. ``It was an offensive thing to say,'' she said. ``It shouldn't have been said.'' ``If the vice president is going to begin chastising people for their comments, he needs to start with his own campaign manager, who made racist comments recently,'' she said. She was referring to comments by Brazile, who said Republicans ``would rather take pictures with black children than feed them'' and accused them of using Gen. Colin Powell and Rep. J.C. Watts of Oklahoma, two of the most prominent blacks in the GOP, to improve their image with minorities. In his interview with Jackson, Gore said that as president he would sign an executive order outlawing racial profiling in police work. AP-NY-01-15-00 1519EST Copyright 2000 The Associated Press

    3. I just got back from the State Archives and thought some of you folks might like to know that they have in their old Colonial files [this was before counties were established] copies of: 1. Boul Miller will, wife Elizabeth, son Frederick, son John Boul lived in the swamp on Bear Creek owned lots in town of ebenezer. 2. Elias MILLER lived on Bear Creek son william wife Martha will dated Nov 1769 St George's Parish 3. James MILLER of Savannah 15 May 1762 4. John Boul MILLER wife Anna, son christopher, brother in law John Lang or Taug these are hard to read. My Mother in law Catherine Lekinger, appears that his wife was currently pregnant when he wrote the will 18 Feb 1770. 5. Palser MILLER of Savannah wife susannah sister Mary Strable dated 1761 6. Robert MILLER of St. John's Parish 2 grand daughters Martha and Magdalene 7 children as; James, Samuel, Daniel, Elizabeth Clark, Judith MILLER, Mary MILLER, Harriet MILLER no wife that I can see dated 1773. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ They also have a bunch oif old conveyances e.g. deeds gifts etc. from these early times in GA many are indexed so finding them is not too hard to do reading the old writing is the difficult part. Most of this stuff applies to the southern eastern corner of GA which was settled first around Savannah. Don't worry bout me, I'm as organized as a henhouse full of chickens. 3. I don't know that I will be much help either but My Colson's were in Md also only the dates are before yours. 1705 Sarah Colson m Archibald Adams. They like yours went to NC and Ga (not the same Co's though). Sarah's father is Thomas Colson and that is all I have on him. But he might be the father to your ancestor. If I have confused the issue I sincerely apoligise. But on the off chance I thought I would send it anyway. Sincerely Glitz
