Sheryl and everyone, Newton PERKINS, b.20 Feb 1779 New Hanover Co., NC., d. 10 Sept. 1867 Burke Co., Ga., m. abt. 1810 Pharabe WALLACE, b. 11 Feb. 1792 New Hanover Co., NC., d. 26 Nov.1834 Burke Co., Ga. Newton then married 2 March 1837 Burke Co., Ga. to Sarah Frances LESTER, b. 1800 Ga., d. 10 Sept. 1867 Burke Co., Ga.. Now if I could only figure out which other these other thirty some odd Davises were John F. Davis' siblings, or parents, I would be a very happy camper! My new GRANDSON, is due Feb. 15th., but he is already 22 inches long, and six and a half pounds. He is so long he has run out of growing room, and seems determine to come early. I live in Central Fl. which explains the crazy weather! I have visited the Blue Mts., and that is very beautiful country! Sheryl, you are fortunate to live in such a lovely place. Thanks to everyone for all the help everyone has sent, today!! This is really a great group!! I hope I can one day return the favors! Donnis
Listers I do not mind a bit of personal chit chat but it is getting to be to much. Lets leave that for personal e-mail and not on the list. Thank you Marge Braswell Listowner
Donnis, Congratulations on the baby that is taking her own sweet time! I'm expecting my first grandchild in July, and can hardly wait. Since I didn't see John Davis on the 1830 index, I'm going to take a look at the entire census just to be sure. Was Newton Perkins and Pharabe Wallace from around Burke Co? I know what you mean about the weather. My poor roses keep tring to bloom and the next thing you know, they're covered in ice for a week. I'm at the foothills of the Blue Mt.s in SC, but the mountains block a lot of the bad weather. It's been like spring here until 2 weeks ago. Anyway, If I find anything else, I'll pass it on to you, and if you need anything else, just holler. Take care of yourself and the baby (when she decides to come) Sheryl
--WebTV-Mail-12614-9326 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Sheryl, John F. Davis did not die until July 01, 1870 n Hillsborough Co., Fl. He and Mary Perkins Davis had thirteen children by this time. The last two children were the twins born in 1855 in NW. FL. Just before the Civil War, John purchase property adjoining his farm that was located in Jackson County, Al. The family lived there until after the war, when they moved to Marion Co., Fl., then two Washington Co., Fl. before settling in Hillsborough Co. Several of the children drifted into Polk Co., Fl. after they married. One of these children was Mary Ann Davis, who married Daniel T. Moore. It was with Mary Ann and Daniel T. that Mary Perkins Davis lived until her death in 1880. I would think that on the 1830 Burke Co. census that John (b. 1800) was the male 20-30, and Mary was the female 15-20, and the daughter under 5 was Martha. Their son Newton Marion Davis would be born the following year on 5 Aug. 1831. This again does suggest that my John was in Burke county, and that it is very possible that my Mary Perkins Davis was the d/o Newton Perkins, and Pharabe Wallace. Right now, I would think more than possible. I want to thank you so very much for the research you have been doing!!!!!!! I really appreciate it!!!!! Everyone here seems to have some sort of flu...crazy weather..one day we run the heat..the next day the air conditioning! Between everyone being sick, and my daughter refusing to dialete, but having light labor pains, I feel like I am never going to get to the Library. I want to go soooo bad that I actually dream about it!!! So, your help means more to me than you can ever imagine!!!! Thanks, once again!!!!! God bless you!!!!!!!!! Frances, if the book under discussion is by Bob DAVIS the numbers 1755-1855 are the years covered by the materials in the book. The full title of the book of which I am thinking is The Families of Burke County, 1755-1855, a census. Has anyone heard of a George McDaniel or an Alexander McDaniel in Burke County. I know that Alexander died in 1806 in Burke County, GA. George was his nephew. He had a half-sister named Sara married to a McDaniel and then a Cosnahan. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Janet

Any one researching GRENWAY/GREENAWAY family in Burke? My ancestor Mark TARVER, blacksmith of Burke, married Sarah GREENWAY or GREENAWAY. Was she a daughter of the Rev War soldier Greenway? Am trying to ascertain their 12 children mentioned in Mark Tarver's obit. Their daughter Caroline who married Oliver HP BYNE was my ancestor. Any help will be much appreciated. Perhaps others that I might contact might be suggested. Ed T of PGH
Hi Mel, No there is no one form Barbados, and there are no Letts- only Lotts. Didn't I already send you those? If not, I appologize-yell at me again and I will ! Sheryl
Can you please tell me what the numbers mean after the names in "Families of Burke County 1755-1855"? Thank you, Frances
Sheryl, Thanks for a very interesting post! I am searching for the parents of Anne Thomas, b. 18 Sept. 1825 Newberry SC., d. 20 Oct. 1908 Miller Co., Ga. ( earlier part of Early Co.). Anne, her sister, Amelia Thomas Clelland, and six other unknown parties were heirs of Josephus and Elizabeth Thomas of Newberry, SC (who received a land grant in1775). Anne and Amelia had to have been grandchildren of Josephus and Elizabeth, inheriting in their father's place. Anne a married Mr. Young, maybe Ernest Young before 1855. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
