Charles -- I think I've corresponded with you before on this line. I had wondered if this Sarah might have been a sister or cousin of my John Williamson, born ca. 1780, who died 1851 in Emanuel County. I don't have his parentage or siblings. Nathaniel MILLER b. 1738 Ireland m. Elizabeth Colson and they pioneered in old St. George's parish the forerunner of Burke Co GA in 1759. After her death he married Sarah Williamson. Does anybody want to swap stories and chew the fat about this family? Charles. Don't worry bout me, I'm as organized as a henhouse full of chickens.
Located in southern Georgia, Irwin County was created from "Indian" lands and portions of Coffee and Telfair Counties in 1818. This database is an index of federal census records for county residents in 1900. Each entry provides the individual's name, birth date, and age. Other information provided includes relationship to head of household, race, sex, birthplace, parent's birthplaces, and marital status. If the resident was a mother the enumerator included the number of children born to her and the number of those children still living. The page number refers to the original census record. Containing the names of nearly 13,700 individuals, this index can be a helpful source of information to researchers of Georgia ancestors. Bibliography: Jefferey, Alice, ed. Hi, I had an in-depth conversation with my great aunt and she told me that my great great grandparents are buried at Hannon/Hannan (not sure if this is the way it was spelled, but it's fairly phonetically correct) Graveyard. Does anyone have any idea of where this is? Vrtreena R. Jenkins
In my Mother's Burke and Emanuel County notes, she mentions a Hawhamock (sp?) Cemetery. Could this possibly be what you are looking for? Thanks very much-Sheryl -for the 1850 census record listings. I have the book by Rev. Lucas which gives these early census and other such early info from the Southern Historical Press. Also, Grave Markers in Burke Co. The Sarah who appears as the head of family #189 is Mark's widow, and the ones listed in the family must be related. [Frances is the wife of Thomas.] The wife of Oliver P. Byne, Carolina, is a daughter of Mark and Sarah Tarver- OHP and Caroline are my ancestors, the Sarah in that family is my great grandmother. Robenson Tarver is a son, and I thought Etheldred and John N. were others, though Etheldred is a common name in another line of Tarvers. What I need is a probate of Mark Tarver's estate or the land records of Tarvers in Burke Co and that part of Burke which became Jefferson Co., which indicate if Mark had been the previous owner and the land was passed on to his sons. Unfortunately, I understand most of the Burke Co records have been lost. My puzzle I have with Oliver Hazzard Perry Byne, the husband of Caroline Tarver, is who his parents were. I suspect they were Lewis Byne and Martha Harvey. Martha died leaving 4 or 5 chidren, according to her obit. Lewis was one of the many sons of Rev. Edmund Byne, of Hopeful Baptist Church in Burke Co. I thought William Byne was a bother of Oliver. He was called an <uncle> by my grandfather, but it appears that he is a cousin of OHP Byne , probably a son of <<General>> William Byne. >From the graveyard of the Hopeful church I put together who I thought were the other sons of Mark and Sarah Tarver, but at least one I thought was a son is not, which throws a question on the others. Through my query, I had hoped to find some descendants of Mark Tarver. But I know at least 2 sons went to Texas about the time of the War between the States. I appreciate your help. Thanks for taking time to send me the information. Hello List, The following announcement is being posted with permission of the list owner. I am researching and writing my family history. I have always wanted to write and publish a cookbook, also. So, I thought, "Why not write a cookbook with a genealogy theme?" Boy, am I hooked on genealogy or what? Anyway, this is to announce the fact that I've already started preparing the cookbook. I would like to ask for your assistance and give you the opportunity to contribute your recipes, photographs, stories, etc. You will be given credit for your contributions. The recipes may be original or family recipes or anything from anyone and anywhere. How about family stories, childhood memories, stories about your best cooking experience or your worst cooking nightmare? Whatever! I want it to be interesting. I would like to make the theme "Family History". Any ideas along those lines would be appreciated. For instance, you may want to contribute your Pedigree Chart along with your recipes. Or maybe you would like to describe how your ancestors did their cooking. For instance, my mother cooked on a wood-burning stove. Both my grandmothers cooked in an open fireplace as young women and in later years they cooked on wood-burning stoves. <Details in the book.> How about Southern traditions, cooking habits, foods, etc.? Anyone else have any ideas? In addition to the wonderful recipes, the book will contain a special section with cooking information, helpful hints and much more. You may want to contribute to this, also. This book will make a nice keepsake or a great gift for special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, Christmas, etc. Will those of you who are interested please submit your recipes as soon as possible? You may submit them via E-mail or snail mail. The sooner I get the recipes collected, the sooner I can get them to the publisher. The book will be professionally published and as far as I know at this time will cost $ 9.95 plus shipping & handling. I am not asking for orders at this time, however, if you wish to reserve a book now as some others have done, feel free to do so. Please do NOT reply to the list. Reply to ME at LIZGERLITS@AOL.COM. Look forward to hearing from you.
