    2. FYI: Source; Huxford GSI Mag. Vol. XI No. III, Sept. 1984 #472 JONES, GIDEON 1838-1903 Suwannee County, FL Gideon Jones was bon on July 13, 1838 in Ware Co., GA. He was the oldest son of James Jr. and Sarah Mizell Jones. He was married first in 1855 to Laney Thrift. She was born in 1836 in Ware Co., GA and was the daughter of Carr W. and Unity Thrift. They had two children. 1. James M. Jones b. 1859 d. ? m. Eliza ? 2. Polly Anne Jones b. 1860 d. 1941 m. John J. Platt, son of John & Susan Roberts Platt. Gideon Jones, along with his three brother; James P., Jesse, and Nathaniel Jones enlisted in the Confederate Army in Company "K" 4th Georgia Regiment Calvary. After the war Gideon returned home to Pierce County, finding that his wife Laney had died, leaving him with his two small children. Gideon then took his two children and moved to Suwannee Co., FL where he soon met and married a widow woman named Martha Jane Quitte Hunter. She was the widow of John L. Hunter a Confederate Soldier. Martha was born on November 15, 1837 in Blount Co., TN, and was the daughter of Cyrus and Armeneta Quitte. Martha had two children by her first marriage, they were: 1. John Henry Hunter b. 16Feb1862 d. 08Aug1926 never married 2. Martha L. Hunter b. 1864 d. 1936 m. John F. Stinson Gideon and Martha Jane Jones had eight children of their own, they were: 1. Melinda "Doll" Jones b. 1868 d. 02Mar1946 m. William D. Stinson 2. Margaret A.E. Jones b. 20Oct1869 d. 18Mar1940 m. John T. Clark Jr. 3. Fannie Armeneta Jones b. 05May1872 d. 16Feb1936 m. Robert F. Hays 4. Thomas Gideon Jones b. 21Mar1873 d. 22Jul1905 m. 1901 to Della Ross 5. Owen King Jones b. 07Oct1877 d. 07Aug1919 m. 1904 to Alice Neely. 6. Andrew Byrd Jones b. 01Jun1879 d. 29Jun1968 m. 1902 to Celeta V. Davis, Dau. of James C. and Louisa J. Parker Davis. 7. Benjamin Jesse Jones b. 17Feb1882 d. 11Nov1914 m. Rosa L. Jordan 8. Ava Jones b. 1885 d. 1970 m. 1902 to Lewin Goff, son of Winnfield S. Goff. Gideon Jones was a prominent farmer in Pierce Co., GA. His farm was about a mile and half from Schlatterville and not far from High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church. Gideon's father James Jones Jr. at one time owned all the land around that area. Gideon also was a prominent farmer in his new home Suwannee Co., FL. He and his family lived on the Suwannee River and around a little town called Newbern, FL. Today many of Gideon's descendants live in or around Suwannee County and Duval County, Florida. Hope this helps someone and will generate more data in my own search for the Joneses...............
