ID: I10704 Name: William Hudson Sex: M Birth: 17 DEC 1815 in Hancock County, GA Death: 2 MAR 1885 in Quitman, Brooks County, GA Burial: West End Cemetery, Quitman, Brooks County, GA Note: Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia by Huxford Society (www.huxford.com) Volume 5, Page 220 WILLIAM HUDSON was born in Hancock County, December 17th 1815, a son of WILLIAM and FRANCES (LONG) HUDSON of that county, and grandson of IRBY HUDSON, R.S. and his wife PHOEBE, natives of Virginia. William Hudson was married in Hancock County on January 4th 1838 to MARTHA ANN LAWRENCE, born 1819 in Georgia. They had only three children, viz: 1) Sarah Margaret Hudson married William A. Rowland 2) William Jasper Hudson married Frances H. Williams 3) Frances Ann Hudson married Michael H. Young After William Hudson's marriage, he settled in Greene County (Georgia) where he lived until 1860 when he moved to the new county of Brooks (Georgia) and made his home in the new town of Quitman. He lived there until his death March 2, 1885; his wife died there June 11, 1890. They were buried in West End Cemetery, Quitman, Brooks County, Georgia. William Hudson served as County Treasurer of Brooks County (Georgia) 1863-1864, also 1866-1868, and was Overseer of the Poor in 1864 and 1866-1868. He was elected a Justice of Brooks Inferior Court in January, 1865, for a four-year term, but resigned a year later (February 26, 1866) to become Clerk of the Superior and Inferior Courts to which he had been elected; he served 1866-1868, and continued as Clerk Superior Court 1868-1871. He was a delegate from Brooks County to the State Constitutional Convention in 1865. William Hudson was a member of the firm of W. HUDSON & COMPANY, Quitman merchants, for several years. He was a member of Sholto Lodge, No 237, F & A M, and served as Lodge Secretary in 1864. Father: William B.
