Zoar Mission Church may have been an outreach of the Zoar Society of Ohio, which began in 1817. They were German Separatists of the Moravian sect who wore formal black clothing, and the men wore tall hats. They required strict adherence to their doctrines, and could have sent out Missionaries to other areas where German speaking peoples had settled. The name Zoar comes from the Bible, being the only one of the five cities of the plains to escape the fire and brimstone destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. It is the city where Lot and his two daughters fled, as described in Genesis 19. Many archeologists and geologists think it is submerged in the South end of the Dead Sea. >From: "juan456" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [GABULLOC] Fwd: Zoar Mission Church >Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 17:44:19 -0400 > >THE OLD ZOAR CEMETERYIS NOW KNOWN >AS THE OLD EUREKA CEMETERY,MAYBE THE CHURCH WAS THERE AT ONE TIME ??JOHN >-----Original Message----- >From: Nancy Gay Crawford <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] <[email protected]> >Date: Friday, June 15, 2001 10:02 AM >Subject: [GABULLOC] Fwd: Zoar Mission Church > > > >Can anyone help me with this request??? At one time there was a Zoar Community in Bulloch County. It was located near the Ogeechee River to the right of Clito going toward Sylvania from Statesboro.
