    1. "VINEY" BENNETT MALLARD of Bulloch County
    2. I'm trying to track down the family of my husband's great-great grandmother, who is referred to by the nickname 'VINEY' on her headstone in the Upper Lotts Creek Church Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia. I know she is a BENNETT from Georgia, born (probably in Bulloch County) in 1844, died in Bulloch County in 1917, and married to Bulloch County native GEORGE MALLARD (1844-1905). There are two Bennett heads of household I've found listed in the 1850 and/or 1860 U.S. Censuses for Bulloch County - ZACHARIAH Bennett and BARNABAS Bennett. One had a daughter, "Lavinia," and another had a daughter, "Hannah." Either of these in my opinion could have been Viney Bennett Mallard, who many believe was born "Vianna." She is referred to as "Hanner" in one census record taken after she'd married George Mallard. I'd be very grateful to anyone who could help shed light on Viney Bennett and her family. Diana, here is what I found for the individuals named above: WASH MIKELL - shown on the muster roll for Company E, 5th Georgia Cavalry, CSA - "Bulloch Troops." The following is copied from Leodel Coleman's Book "The Story of Bulloch County," pages 77-79: "The Bulloch Troops were organized before the bombardment of Fort Sumter. This group assembled at the place of W.D. Brannen on October 6, 1861, left for Savannah on October 7, and was mustered into the Confederate service on October 10 by Colonel Rockwell for a term of twelve months. They were under the command of Dr. A.I. Hendry, Captain. The company was first attached to the Second Georgia Battalion with Lieutenant Colonel Montgomery Cummings as commanding officer. After about twelve months these troops were attached to the 5th Georgia Cavalry Regiment, commanded by Colonel B.H. Anderson. This regiment did picket duty on the coast of Georgia and South Carolina and was ordered to the Olustee fight in Florida but railroad facilities were so poor that it arrived a day or two after the fight. They returned to the Georgia front and met Johnston's army at Kennesaw Mountain. Sergeant Marion Miller was killed at the Chattahoochee River by a fragment of a shell, the first casualty. A young man by the name of D.E. Mercer from Tatnall County was killed at Newnan, and Captain George Best was killed on the streets of Waynesboro in Burke County, Georgia. Captain W.N. Hall took over command and was the leader of the Company until its surrender at Company Shops, North Carolina." No further information related to WASH MIKELL. DANIEL R. RIGDON - listed on the muster roll for Company I, 9th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, CSA - "Toombs Guards." Private. June 10, 1861. Killed, Gettysburg, PA, July 2, 1863. WILLIAM RIGDON - also listed on the muster roll of the "Toombs Guards." Private. June 10, 1861. Died, typhoid fever, November 6, 1861. No THOMAS HENRY RIGDON listed. Hope this helps. Kelli Mallard
