    1. ANYONE REMEMBER?
    2. If you are originally from Bulloch County, do any of your remember: When Vandy's was ONLY located on W. Vine Street, and you could count on Vandy Boyd to "pinch" a taste of barbecue from your plate, as he sat it on the counter? When you could get Lehman Gerrald to cut your hair....underneath the Bulloch County Bank? When the Kentucky Fried Chicken was only a take-out window in the back of the Paragon restaurant? When you could count on there being AT LEAST one new Cadillac, one new Oldsmobile, and one new GMC truck on display at Woodcock Motor Company? (But hardly ever MORE than one of each.) When Barnes Funeral Home was located between Pearle Screws' Texaco Station, and Bill Tucker's Sinclair Station? (Didn't Buddy Barnes have the perfect "look" for an undertaker?) When it was 12 LONG miles from the Statesboro city limits, to the Brooklet city limits? When you always looked forward to going to Minkovitz, and having Sol Minkovitz fit you perfectly in that new suit? When you really wanted to ride on that old, hand-drawn, freight elevator at W.C. Akins & Son Hardware? When there was nothing but corn and cotton growing where Statesboro Mall is now? When everybody PROPERLY said "it's up yonder on the 4-Lane", instead of "I believe they're located on Northside Drive West"? When all the youth (of driving age) went down to the A & W, to "Squall a tire"? When Lannie Simmons sold Studebaker cars and trucks? When the "FAMILY" Drive-In Theatre, really was for the entire family? When you could count on Leodel and G.C. Coleman to print all the news that you really needed to know? When a trip to McConnels and/or McClellans was a great way to spend the day, spending your allowance? When EVERYBODY "came to town" on Saturday? When you count on Roger Holland or Ed Smart to make sure you had the perfect pair of glasses? When you referred to your doctor as Doctor Johnny, or Doctor Albert, or Doctor Bird, and everybody knew who you were talking about? When Franklin's restaurant was open 24 hours a day, and had the "World's Worst Apple Pie"? When you could always count on see James Aldred, with that #2 lead pencil stuck behind his ear, at Aldred's Food Mart? When J.B. Johnson brought your dry cleaning from Register Dry Cleaners, in that green Chevrolet panel truck? When people gave you their telephone numbers by saying "P.O., or Poplar 4-5446? When the Banks family put that fresh, City Dairy milk on your doorstep everyday? When the Coke float from Ellis Drug Company was better than it had to be? When you loved to hear people say that they lived in the Sinkhole District? When you heard the latest news, sports and weather Ray Shader, and the tops in pops from Ray Classens, over "WWNS radio, 1240 on your dial, in Statesboro, Georgia"? When the "Buggy & Wagon" was where you went to purchase a "nicer" gift? When Doctor Henderson was the "head man" at Georgia Southern (and "always" had been)? When Fair Road used to be the Pembroke Highway? When you could give people directions by telling them to "go out past Pine End", or "go right past Red Bug Haven", or "just as you get past Upper Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church, turn right, and they'd get to where they needed to go? When seeing (Clinton) Tucker ride that big Harley Duo-Glide, just made you feel a little scary? When Jim Brock used to ACTUALLY bottle Coca Cola, at the Statesboro Coca Cola Bottling Company? When Gay & Marsh sold American gasoline, and Leland Riggs (at 4-Points Service Station) sold Atlantic gasoline? When "Mizz" Jessie Averitt always had a sucker for you at the First Federal? When important gatherings were held in the Lamplighter Room at the Howard Johnson's? AND ......DO YOU REMEMBER: When you could always count on seeing and hearing a little smoking, drinking & cussing down at Bird's Pond? Can you add others? 3. Would like information re: Abigail Riggs who married Allen Bethel Geiger 1826 in Wayne Co. GA. According to her children's response on census records, she was born in Bulloch Co. 1800-1808. I think she had 10 children and died in abt 1840, probably in Liberty Co. GA. Last child was born between 1835-1839. Allen brought the family to Northeast FL. and was shown on the 1840 census in Nassau County. Abigail was not with them. He remarried soon after. 3. Have you checked with your local Family History Center and see what they have on marriages about that timed? IF your FHC doesn't have one but they do have alist of marriages, you may put in for a loan and they will get it from another library. I found some mariages between 1857-1879 and that was in book "C". Check out your resources. N Miles

I haven't taken the time to fill in their children's information in genealogy program yet, they are not my direct line. My direct line is John's brother, Allen Lanier who married Lavinia Gay of Bulloch County. You may be able to find additional information on your Burnsed line by checking out the Lanier Home page at: http://www.mindspring.com/~wdlanier/lemuel.html Also additional information can be found at Carol Middleton's Lanier Pages: http://home.att.net/~c.middleton/Lanierline1.html#anchor1335588 She also has some interested information about Bulloch County posted on her website. It seems our Lanier ancestors were very famous musicians in the Court of King Henry II of France, Queen Elizabeth I and King James of England. I hope you find some information that helps you with your research. On a more personal note....I was able to download the file you sent on your Murray line, but I wasn't able to read some of it. I don't think I have the knack of handling Gedcom files, yet. I have been working at getting as much information as I can, gathered for my direct Murray line. I think I have about as much as I will be able to get for a while. I'll print the information out and send it by snail mail to you as soon as I have a little time off from work Your Cuz, Deb

    3. Hello have had no mail from this list, is there anyone here? If so does anyone know of a Mt. Carmel Cemetery? The cemetery was on gay church road. There is/was a small fence around it. There may be only about five headstones remaining. There was also a church at this sight long ago. When the church moved it became Paynes Chapel. Does anyone know where Paynes Chapel is? Would love to find any info on this church and cemetery. Thanks Evelyn

    3. Stephen: Sorry if it seems like I am disorganized but here is a list of all of cemeteries in Bulloch county and surrounding counties. IF you know which cemetery they were burried in you will find them. If there was no marker on the grave, too old and/or writing is illegible there would be no notation. I found that the churches that owned the cemeteries were not good record keepers so you can't check against any list except what is in these books. Happy hunting. 3. You might check with the LDS Family History Centers for land records or other types of legal deals that he might have transpired. Did he own land? DO you know when he died? What was his occupation? IF he was a farmer, regardless of his living in Georgia or the Carolinas, he would be listed in the Agriculture Census. Hope that this helps. Nay Miles

I have not verified this as yet. If he returned to NC, New Hanover might be a place to look. What do you think?
