    1. [GABUL] Important Question Inside...
    2. Ricks
    3. Does anyone know who Marge Suhr with the email address [email protected] is? Today I received an email from this person asking that I not email them anymore. Very rudely, I might add. I do not know anyone by that name or email address. I wrote a very nice letter back to this person explaining to them that I don't know how they were receiving email from me since I do not know them and their email address is not in my address book, unless, they might be on one of the genealogy list or Brain Injury list that I write to. I asked them to send me back the email they received from me and I would try to figure out how they were receiving it and if it was indeed from a list, I might could assist them in getting removed from the list. I never mail anyone that I don't consider a friend or on a list that I belong to! Another rude reponse came that simply said, "no response do not mail anymore to me.you are cluttering my emaill....................." I don't really see what else I can do but I hate the fact that if this person is on one of our list, they will keep getting mail from me and I can tell by their response to me already, that they will get angrier and angrier over this. I was just hoping that if any of you know this person, you would pass on to them that I would love to quit sending them email, if I just knew how they are getting it in the first place! Thanks! 1. [GABUL] LISTOWNER POST re: viruses
    2. Carol C-H
    3. Listmembers, We always need to defend our computers against viruses. Right now, it is essential that we remember to do so, because there are worm viruses circulating. Remember that, once opened, worm viruses get into an innocent person's computer and send randomly, forging the FROM: address. The innocent person who unknowingly opened the virus and activated it usually does not even realize what has happened. Remember not to open any attachments, unless you know that the person who sent it is sending that particular attachment deliberately. Even if it is from your sister or best friend, be sure that s/he intended to send that particular attachment - her/his computer could be infected, and unknowingly be sending you a worm. For the next couple of weeks (at least), I advise that you do not open ANY attachments that end in .exe, - no matter who they are from, or what they claim to be - that attachment that looks to be and says it is a Holiday card could very well be a worm. Go to http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/virus1.html and read what RootsWeb has to say about these viruses, then go to the other links off that page and read what they say also. If you have any doubts about anything you receive, ask someone at the RootsWeb helpdesk http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi or join the virus discussion list - sub to [email protected] Carol C-H <[email protected]> http://www2.netdoor.com/~cch/ If a problem can be solved, worry is unnecessary; If a problem cannot be solved, no amount of worry will help.

    3. -----Original Message----- From: Tim Pierce <[email protected]> Hi - If you received mail with an attachment that purported to be from a RootsWeb mailing list, please be aware that the mail is a forgery and did *not* come from RootsWeb. There is an e-mail "worm" circulating on the net. In some e-mail clients it says: he, your lame client cant read HTML, haha. click attachment to see some stunningly HOT stuff and on others: http://stuart.messagemates.com/index.html Hypercool Happy New Year 2000 funny programs and animations... We attached our recent animation from this site in our mail ! Check it out ! If you received this mail and it appeared to come from a RootsWeb mailing list, that means that someone else on the list is infected with this worm, and their computer sent the worm directly to you without their knowledge. The worm did *not* actually get sent to RootsWeb and was not sent through our lists; it is just forged to appear that it did. For more information and disinfection instructions, see http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/worm.newapt.html or http://vil.mcafee.com/vil/wm10475.asp Please do not ask RootsWeb for more information about this worm; we cannot provide virus help. -- Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb.com lead system admonsterator and Chief Hacking Officer

    3. Twas The Night Before Y2K… Twas the night before Y2K, and all through the nation we awaited the Bug, the millennium sensation. The chips were replaced in computers with care In hopes that ol'Bugsy wouldn't stop there. While some folks could think they were snug in their beds Others had visions of dread in their heads. And Ma with her PC and I with my Mac Had just logged on the Net and kicked back with a snack. When over the server there arose such a clatter I called Mister Gates to see what was the matter. But he was away so I flew like a flash Off to my bank to withdraw all my cash. When what with my wandering eyes should I see? My good old Mac looked sick to me. The hack of all hackers was looking so smug, I knew that it must be the Y2K Bug!!! His image downloaded in no time at all, He whistled and shouted, "Let all systems fall!" Go Intel! Go Gateway! Now HP! Big Blue! Everything Compaq, and Pentium too! All processors big, all processors small Crash away! Crash Away! Crash away all!!! All the controls that planes need for flights All microwaves, trains and all traffic lights. As I drew in my breath and was turning around Out through the modem he came with a bound. He was covered with fur, and slung on his back Was a sackful of virus set for attack. His eyes how they twinkled! His dimples how merry! As midnight approached though things became scary. He had a broad little face and a round little belly And his sack filled with virus quivered like jelly. He was chubby and plumb, perpetually grinning, And I laughed when I saw him though my hard drive stopped spinning. A wink of his eye and a twist of his head Soon gave me to know a new feeling of dread. He spoke not a word but went straight to his work He changed all the clocks then turned with a jerk. With a twitch of his nose and a quick little wink All things electronic soon went on the blink. He zoomed from my system to the next folks online He caused such disruption, could this be a sign? Then I heard him exclaim with a loud heart cry Happy Y2K to all; Kiss your PC's goodbye!!!
