Joey >> Hi Deb, and everyone else on the list. My cousin Joey Mimbs and I seem to be the only ones working on our particular line. I also would really like to connect with others who have an interest in our line. As Joey said, our line is: Joseph Emanuel (Manning; Marion) Brown; James H. Brown; Joey branches at Algerine, to Leamon, to Mary Jane. I branch off from James H. to Steven E, to my daddy Wallace Elzie. As a point of interest, we don't really know at this point what Joseph's middle name was. In the 1850 Emanuel County census, he is called Emanuel. In the 1860 Screven County census he is called Manning. And in the 1870 Bulloch County census he is called Marion. Seems he had lots of trouble settling on a middle name. An article in the Confederate Veteran Magazine, July-August 1992, dealing with his son, William Jasper Brown, identified him only as Joseph M(anning) Brown. Identity was provided by Mr. J. M. Rooks who was married to Pheriba Brown, daughter of Matthew Brown and Sarah Jane (Warnock) Brown, and granddaughter of Joseph. Joey and I will welcome any and all responses. Bill Brown

    2. I received a couple of responses asking for the children of James H. Brown and Roxann Boyett, so I am posting to the list. Roxann also had a child before she married James. 2. Hi Joey, The only one of your Browns I have in my database is James H. Brown. I don't have parents listed for him, but because of the birth date, I think he is the same one. James H. Brown, b. 4 Jan 1844, Bulloch Co., d. 15 Dec 1917, buried at Evergreen Baptist Cemetery. He was a confederate veteran. Jim married Roxann Boyett, b. 8 Nov 1838, d. 3 Jun 1906. Roxann was the daughter of Seth Boyett and Patience Moore. While he lived most of his life in Tattnall County, GA, his farm and blacksmith's shop were cut off into Candler Co., GA. I have children and grandchildren listed for him. If you are interested, let me know and I'll post them. If no one on the Bulloch list has information on Joseph Emanuel Brown, you might try posting to the Emanuel list, I seem to remember some posts a while back regarding this family. 2. Hi, I recently discovered a cousin through my Murray/Lively lines. While speaking with him yesterday, I found out we connect through our Lanier line, as well. Small world, huh. Come to find out, his wife's maiden name is Gay. She descended from the Gay's from Bulloch County. He gave me some information on the father of Matthew, Simon, Richard, Nathaniel, Thomas, Joshua, John Asa, Allen and Lewis Gay, whom he said were all brothers. Unfortunately, Lavinia Gay was not listed as one of the children. Would some of the Gay researchers contact me so we can compare notes. Thanks, Deb

Gay William Johnson married Susan Gay Mary Johnson married Andrew Lofton (?) Laura Johnson married George Powell (?) Katharine Johnson married William Tadlock (?) Kindred Johnson was the son of John and Margaret Johnson. A deed has been found that mentions John Johnson and his son Kindred Johnson. John Johnson was born about 1792 probably in Bulloch County, Georgia and died December 11, 1865 probably in Emanuel County. Part of Bulloch County was cut off to form Emanuel County. Margaret was born about 1795 and died October 17, 1883 probably in Emanuel County. John and Margaret Johnson are buried in a small Johnson family cemetery now in Jenkins County, Georgia. The following is a list of Johnsons that were probably some of John and Margaret's children. John Johnson 1792-Dec. 11, 1865 Margaret Johnson 1795-Oct. 17, 1883 children? Furney Johnson c1821-Aug. 13, 1856 Kindred B. Johnson Jun. 1823-Nov. 12, 1901 Daniel B. Johnson c1828- James R. Johnson married Elizabeth Oglesby James R. Johnson married Martha John D. Johnson married Mary Aaron Margaret Johnson married Charles Aaron Susan Johnson married Allen Hooks John Johnson was the son of William and Delilah Johnson of Bulloch County, Georgia. John Johnson was named in the ulloch County Will of William Johnson dated May 7, 1810. The following list of Johnsons were possibly some of the children of William and Delilah Johnson. William Johnson - c1810 Delilah children? James R. Johnson c1789- John Johnson 1792-Dec. 11, 1865 Nancy Johnson William Johnson c1798- Catherine Johnson Nathan Johnson c1805- Patty Johnson James R. Johnson married (Litha?) John Johnson married Margaret (?) William Johnson married (Sophia?) Catherine Johnson married (Nathan Brown?) Nathan Johnson married (Mary?) It is likely that William Johnson was the son of Joseph Johnson from the Buck Swamp-Temperance Hill area of the Old Cheraws District in South Carolina. An area that is now mostly in northern Marion County and a bit in southern Dillon County, South Carolina. This was a family of the following brothers and sisters: Elizabeth (b. ca 1758, married Joseph Hardeman); Joseph; David (married Martha Hardeman); William; John; Isham; Samuel; and Benjamin. All went to Bulloch County, Georgia ca. 1785-95 except Samuel and Benjamin, who, with perhaps another brother (Moses?) and perhaps a sister or two, stayed in the Buck Swamp area of Marion County, South Carolina. The father of the above family was very likely David Johnson (b. ca. 1730-35 and possibly d. before 1790). He was in the militia from the Buck Swamp area 1759-60. The old Cheraws was not settled until the 1730s, so David Johnson may have been born there the son of an early settler or he may have come there from somewhere else in South Carolina, North Carolina or Virginia. I hope this information will help someone. If anyone has additional information on the Johnson family from Emanuel/Bulloch County, Georgia please let me know. Also, please inform me of any errors in this message. Thanks. Gene Funderburk [email protected] Wilmington, NC
