Al, Regarding Sarah Ann Waters who married John C. Dutton: My gggrandparents are Isaac Waters and Jane Barber. I have been trying to find information on their daughter Sarah Ann. I was pleased to see your information on them. There are so many Sarah's and Sarah Ann's in the Waters clan that it has been difficult to find who belonged to whom. Your information on Sarah reflects the information in the 1900 census; however, earlier census records give different date on her birth. 1860 b. 1858 1870 b. 1859 1880 b. 1857 1900 b. Dec 1855 Do you have any other information that positively identifies Sarah Ann as the daughter if Isaac and Jane Waters? Jackie, there are so, so, so many entries on those families, all of them. I am so swamped with requests that I am afraid that I might let you down by having to wait so long. If you would like to purchase it, I would recommend it because you have so many surnames in Bulloch Co. It is not bad, I don't think, price wise. Gosh, just about any book that is soft or hard cover that the Statesboro Library, [email protected] has is great primary reference material. Included are their cemetery lists, deed books, census records, and etc. If there is one name that is really stumping you, please email me back and I will look that up. I am beginning to think, unfortunately, that the Bulloch Co. Williams are mine, also...hundreds of Williams, like the Jones family...I'll have get a new file cabinet just for those 2! Let me know. Carole ps. Al C. has wonderful records I see posted. Have you talked with him? ----- Original Message ----- From: Jackie Purdy To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, April 08, 2001 10:40 AM Subject: Bullock Co. Morning, I have been reading your messages on the Bullock Web page regarding the Alvarette Kenan Registers, book on Bullock Co. Will you look up a couple names for me, I have been thinking of buying it, the names are Dutton, Hagan, Williams. My Great Great Great Grandfather was Henry Dutton, and his son was Samuel Dutton married to Sarah Hagin. There were lots of children and wondered if they were included in this book. Most of them are buried in Bullock and Effingham Co. Do you know if there are any more good books on the county and its people that are available. Not sure if and when I can get back to Georgia. Thanks a million. Jackie Purdy in Shingle Springs, CA. originally from Savannah. Researching in Georgia: Dutton, Hagin, Williams, Foy, Dasher, Bird. (Bullock, Effingham, Bryan Co.'s)

Hello Al, HAPPY EASTER to you all too. I can't thank you enough for replying to my e-mail. I have been looking for information on my family for quite awhile. As I said in my query I sent, I was born in Savannah, but have been gone since the 50's, except for visits. My Mom lived there until her death in 1989. We spent a week in Effingham Co. last summer on an RV trip, but only had a day at the library in Statesboro. My Mom was born and raised in Egypt, Effingham Co. and that is where my G.Grandfather Thomas Absalom Dutton had his land, he married Eugenia Natilia Foy, daughter of George Washington Foy and Ann Rebecca Dasher. I was thrilled to see that Sarah Hagan's father was named Absalom as that was both my Grandfathers name and his father. I always asked Mom where it came from and she said it was a name out of the bible. When we were in Bullock last summer we found the cemetery where some of the Duttons/Hagans are buried and I copied the dates & took photos. Henry Dutton & his wife 1st wife,Mary Ann Wilson (I have been given that as her last name)are buried in the New Hope Methodist Cemetery, in Bullock, other family members also. Henry died June 27, 1851 and Mary was b: in January 1800 and died February 10, 1843. Apparently after Mary's death he married again to Ann Cocks on February 6, 1845. So far I have been unable to find a death date for Samuel Dutton and his wife Sarah Hagan, or any idea where they are buried. My G.Grandfather as I said was : Thomas Absalom Dutton b: June 28, 1846, Bullock Co.,GA. d: August 30, 1875, Marlow, Effingham co.GA. He married Eugenia Natilia Foy b: November 18, 1848 in Egypt, Effingham Co., d: July 9, 1910, Egypt.GA. She married TA Dutton on September 3, 1870 in Bullock Co. she was the daughter of George Washington Foy and Ann Rebecca Dasher. They are all buried in the Foy Cemetery, now known as the Elam Baptist Cemetery, the road was called Dutton Lane, as the old home still stands just past the cemetery. The name was changed sometime in 1980. GWFoy gave the land for the cemetery. Thomas & Eugenia had 3 children: Sarah Ella Dutton b.August 5, 1872, d: September 13, 1882 buried at Elam Baptist Cemetery. My grandfather Thomas Absalom Dutton b: April 1, 1875 in Egypt, he d: October 27, 1929 in Egypt. He was married to Mattie Carroll Fryar of Magnolia, Duplin co.NC. They also had another son that died date unknown and is also buried in the cemetery next to his parents. My G.Grandfather TA Dutton was in the CSA, enlisted May 6, 1862 and was mustered into the 54th Infantry, CO I, he was present December 31, 1863 and no other military records after that. He was also a Mason, I have been unable to find out which lodge. My Grandfather TA Dutton was also a Mason and Master of Egypt Lodge #440, in Springfield, later changed to Springfield Lodge #440 in 1929. My Grandfather served as the Sec. between 1902-1911 Was Worshipful Master from 1912-1917. This information I received from the Grand Lodge of GA. My mother was Eugenia Rebecca Dutton and she was born in Egypt, attended school there, went to Brewton-Parker , after graduation in 1922, she returned to Egypt and taught school in the Egypt Academy, after her marriage to my father Magnus Theodore Otto Monson of Savannah. I will send you my family genealogical report by another e-mail. Again thanks and I probably will be asking for your help in the future. Jackie Purdy, Shingle Springs, CA.

Jackie, I saw your email and checked my computer file for possible links. Below is an outline report of what I have. Can you add anything or correct anything from your information. I am from Bulloch County and that is my genealogy focus -- still trying to locate many of those ladies with no known maiden name. BTY - Bulloch County is beautiful at this time. When I close this down I will be going up there to visit cemeteries and remaining family/friends. Please let me know if I can help you with a specific problem. I have much of the Bulloch County records and frequently go to the library in Statesboro. Happy Easter!

I suggest interested parties contact Shelia Payne ([email protected]). She has access to information of the descendants of William Burrell McLendon. She lives in the old McLendon house (built 1838) on McLendon Road in Laurens County, Georgia. Jack

Hi, I am new to the Edgefield list and hope someone can help me with my McLindon family research in Edgefield County, SC. My ancestor, William Henry McClelland (McLenon/McLindon) came from Edgefield County, SC to Bulloch County, GA where he married Mahitable ("Hattie") Cone. I strongly suspect my William Henry McClelland is one of the sons of Taltern McLindon and Avery (maiden name unknown) from Edgefield County, SC. Taltern McLindon is shown in the 1850 Edgefield County, SC census with five children: William, Mary, Martha, John, and Emaline. Any further information on the McLindon family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Sharlotte http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly
