A thick "brick wall" for many of us is the family below. Who were the parents of William (Willie) Shep Davis who lived in the lower part of Bulloch County and upper part of Bryan County, Georgia. Any additional information related to this family would be appreciated. Hopefully a "brick wall wrecker" can help connect this Davis family to their proper ancestors. :) Sincerely, Alfred Chassereau [email protected] Descendants of William (Willie) Shep Davis 1 William (Willie) Shep Davis b: November 17, 1856 Bulloch County, Georgia d: October 10, 1910 Bulloch County, Georgia +Doris E. Jack, Thank you very much. I've no idea if this couple are the ones I'm looking for, but it's certainly a start. The letter I have doesn't mention children in the household, and for some reason I had the idea that it might have been an older couple - but I may be quite wrong about that. Again, thank you for taking the time to respond to my far-out query. Lowell
Lowell, The 1880 Bulloch County census has the following: Wilson, John S. 38 Martha J. 28 wife Charles R. 2 son William 7/12 son In those days, most females named Martha were called "Mattie". Jack Moses
I know this is a ridiculously long shot, but does anyone know of a couple residing in the Bloys area of Bulloch County in the 1880 to 1890 time frame, surname unknown to me, who were called J. S. and Mattie? The reason I ask is, it seems that my great-grandmother, Sarah Ellen "Sallie" Groover, was a live-in domestic in their household. I am just curious to know who they were. She seemed to think very highly of them, saying in a letter to her soon-to-be husband in 1885 that she was "well pleased here. I had rather be here than any where I ever tried for a home." She called them "Mr. J. S." and "Miss Mattie." Thank you. Lowell
Daniel Lafayette Alderman married Mary Jane Groover (b. 2 Dec 1869, daughter of James Bulloch Groover and Sarah Ann Wilson), and they had at least one child, Daniel Lester Alderman, born 18 Sep 1892. Can anyone tell me the parents of Daniel Lafayette? Thank you. Lowell

Hello Jackie - I had a few minutes this morning to check my database, I have information on many of the names "embroided on this quilt top." I'm willing to share with the list. It was interesting so many names connect to Rev. War. Soldiers. I was anticipating "quilt" postings to the list this morning when those of us on the west coast checked our emails and was disappointed. If anyone has information on the following "quilt" names please contact me or post the answer to a list. [email protected] Mr. Henry Bird - possible son of William and Ellen ZETTLER BIRD Mr. Lem Shepard Mrs. Lem Shepard - Amanda, possible widow of Camel TYSON Enjoy your weekend, Maureen in CA
Maureen, From what I remember my mother saying was that it was family and friends, that either lived in Egypt or in the Effingham ,Bulloch area. Of course, the Dutton's, Foys, Dashers, Biddenback, Mingledorff, Arden's,West's,Trowell, Hunter, Everett, Ambrose, Brinson, were all family related. I think the names of the ministers was quite interesting. Then she has 3 colonels listed. I know the name Powell was a doctor in Effingham Co., not sure if the one one the quilt is the same one. A lot of the other names I remember as a child going to Egypt. We use to take the train from the old station (now the visitors center) to Egypt. I spent many a summer there at the William Henry Jackson Foy home, the big one across from where the old train station & the store was. It is the one that now has the station in the side yard. Riding the school bus when their son Jack or William Edward would go pick up the children. Attending Sunday School at the Elam Baptist Church. Just thought I might stir some memories of some of those folks now gone. Like I mentioned to Joni the quilt is made of muslin and in real good condition, my Mom kept it wrapped and in a chest. If you have seen any of the Red work that is now coming back it remind me of that. Mother use to get it out and spread on the bed and tell me about the people she remembered. Guess I just get homesick once in awhile. Jackie in CA.

Hi All, Sorry for the crossposting, but I want to get the word out ASAP. I just got a spam from GenTruth <[email protected]> , which is yet another attempt to repackage Family Discovery - www.familydiscovery.com . A websearch at www.google.com for <"family discovery" genealogy scam> turned up 44 pages, all of which are negative. Here is a sample of what their unhappy customers have said about them: http://www.imagin.net/~tracers/familydiscovery.htm Here are a couple of pages which provide a good education on avoiding being ripped off by persons selling family histories, coats of arms, and other genealogical scams: http://www.ancestordetective.com/watchdog.htm http://www.ancestry.families.aol.com/library/view/columns/eastman/3538.asp JDM
Is there anyone that can help me with Anna Lee Hagen that married a Bishop? Her mother was Ola Mixon Hagen and I know that Ola lived in Bulloch Co. when she was young and may have moved to Bryan Co. after she married. I know that Anna was living in Pembroke, GA in 1995 and I visited her there where she was living with her, I believe, daughter. Ola Mixon Hagen was the sister of my ggrandmother, Alice Mixon and I would like more info on Ola and her parents, William Mixon and Mary Sauls. Please help. I have hit a brick wall with this family. Nancy, Susannah "Susan" Brinson, b. 10/6/1828, d. 13 Mar 1905, m(1) John C(alvin?) Finch. He died in 1860 and she m(2) Matthew Gay, b. ca 1840, d. 12 Dec 1865. Susannah and her two husbands are buried on the old John C. Finch homeplace located on the northwest corner in the trees where Old River Road and Rocky Ford Road. For a long time, I have been trying to ascertain the place in the HAGIN family tree belonging to Jennette Hagin who was born November 26, 1826 and died November 15, 1900. She is buried in the cemetery at Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Bulloch County, GA. Her epitaph reads "In Memory of Jennette Hagin, Wife of Robert R. Waters, born November 26, 1826, died November 15, 1900, An aged Mother, her work was done. And laid her armor by a glorious victory she's won, Never again to die." Her husband, Robert R. Waters, was born March 4, 1824 and died December 13, 1901. He was the son of Thomas and Hannah Stewart Waters and grandson of Isaac Waters. >From other records, it appears that Jennette Hagin's sister was named Sophronia Hagin. They were daughters of Joseph Hagin. My problem is in placing Joseph Hagin within the larger Hagin family. He appears to have disappeared abruptly in the time about the Civil War; however, he may be the same J.E. Hagin who served in the Civil War who gave his life in service to the Confederacy. It also seemed that he had married one of the Hagin widows- I believe who may have been his brother. I cannot recall (I didn't copy this down at the time) the name of the brother whose widow it was that I believe he married, but it was contained in the Hagin/Hagan family records at the Statesboro Regional Library (part of the info donated by Alvaretta K. Register). >From court papers filed by the heirs of Jennette Hagin, I know that her living descendents consisted of the following people as of May 1901: P.C. Waters; W.H. Waters, T.H. Waters, C.S. Waters, Julia DeLoach and Cornelia DeLoach. These all appear to be their suriving children as of May 1901. (One of the their children who had died was my ancestor, Joseph R. Waters who was born June 25, 1846 and died July 31, 1895 that married Mary F. Rowe). Surviving grandchildren of Jennette Hagin Waters, as of May 1901 who appear to be the children of her deceased children are as follows: Ginnett Morgan, Elizabeth Morgan, T. Ross Richardson, George P. Richardson, Jannett (Mary Ver Jennette Waters) Dixon*, Josephine DeLoach*, William T. Waters*, Sarah Elizabeth Smith*, Hannah E. Waters*, Nellie Waters*, Robert R. Waters*, Allen Russ Waters*, Nancy E. Waters, Carrabell Waters, Joseph Waters, Edith Waters, Warnock Waters, Lou A. Mikell, Sam L. Mikell, Mattie L. Mikell, Mary F. Mikell, Hattie R. Mikell, Robbie L. Mikell, Gordon W. Wilson, Mollie Harvey, Janie Wilson, John F. Wilson, Gussie Wilson, Joseph A. Wilson, Barnum P. Wilson and Sarah Wilson. *These are children of John R. Waters and his wife Mary F. Rowe Waters. Thanks to a little squabble over some land between Cornelia Waters DeLoach and the administrator of the estate of Robert R. Waters, her brother, we have a wonderful genealogical record. If anyone is familar with Jennette Hagin Waters, Mrs. Robert R. Waters, then I sure would appreciate information regarding them. My particular line of descent is through their son Joseph R. Waters who married Mary F. Rowe who was the daughter of Randolph "Randall" Rowe and his wife Mary "Polly" Beasley Rowe. Joseph R. Waters and his wife Mary F. Rowe had many children of whom was included my ancestor Mary ver Jennette Waters Dixon (Mrs. Thaddeus Jackson Dixon- he was son of Matthew and Martha Warren Dixon). Mary ver Jeannette Waters Dixon was the mother of many of whom was included my great-grandfather, Logan Bleckley Dixon, Sr. who married Minnie Lou Foss. Any help in identifying Jeannette Hagin Waters will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!! Russell Bazemore, Pooler, GA
