    3. Zoar Mission Church may have been an outreach of the Zoar Society of Ohio, which began in 1817. They were German Separatists of the Moravian sect who wore formal black clothing, and the men wore tall hats. They required strict adherence to their doctrines, and could have sent out Missionaries to other areas where German speaking peoples had settled. The name Zoar comes from the Bible, being the only one of the five cities of the plains to escape the fire and brimstone destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. It is the city where Lot and his two daughters fled, as described in Genesis 19. Many archeologists and geologists think it is submerged in the South end of the Dead Sea. >From: "juan456" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [GABULLOC] Fwd: Zoar Mission Church >Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 17:44:19 -0400 > >THE OLD ZOAR CEMETERYIS NOW KNOWN >AS THE OLD EUREKA CEMETERY,MAYBE THE CHURCH WAS THERE AT ONE TIME ??JOHN >-----Original Message----- >From: Nancy Gay Crawford <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] <[email protected]> >Date: Friday, June 15, 2001 10:02 AM >Subject: [GABULLOC] Fwd: Zoar Mission Church > > > >Can anyone help me with this request??? 3. According the the book "Spirit of the People, Celebrating 200 Yrs. of Bulloch County History, 1796-1996" , the town of Eureka was chartered by the Postal Service to the name of Zoar on Mar. 13, 1881. The citizens wanted the name of Eureka but another city in the state was already named Eureka. The service was discontinued in 1905. Don't know if this has anything to do with the Zoar Mission.

    1. [GABULLOC] RICHARDSON-JONES-SPELL
    2. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has researched these families and is willing to share their information/findings. I am particularly interested in getting copies of the Wills from Edgecombe County NC. Benjamin RICHARDSON later married Sarah Mizell in 1767 Tyrrell County and moved to GA and was a JP in the B.E.S. (Bulloch-Effingham-Screven) area. I recently received information from another researcher that led me to look for more documentation. The story was that Benjamin RICHARDSON md. before 1757 Ann ?? (possibly JONES, a daughter of John JONES) in NC. The Will of John JONES was found in Edgecombe County NC. Checking the available resources here in Tallahassee Florida at the Archives (primarily abstracts of NC wills by J. Bryan Grimes or for Edgecombe Co. NC by Ruth Smith Williams & Margarette Glen Griffin), I found that Ann ??? Richardson mentioned in John JONES will was not mentioned as a daughter but as an Other Legatee, as Ann and Benjamin Richardson. The ladies (Williams & Griffin) indicate in their second book on Marriages of Edgecombe County NC that Ann was the daughter of Thomas SPELL, listed in John JONES will as a son in law. John JONES's will lists 3 sons in law (including SPELL) implying there were 3 daughters. The will only lists one of the daughters by name: Sarah, who married Charles JERKINS. The other son in law was Peter MITCHELL. JONES's sons named in the will were Wallis (Wallace?), Etheldred and John. Wallis was Executor. In a codicil, John names another son Frederick. Another reference indicates there is a will for Peter MITCHELL in Edgecombe Co. in 1770. None of the sons are listed in the Marriages of North and South Carolina by Clemens. There is a Benjamin Richardson listed in the 1784-86 State Census in Halifax County. Is this the same man? The age and family members seem to match.

Their children are my double cousins -- I am a direct descendant of Levi Davis and Susannah Bragg Davis (parents of John Clarke Davis) and Uriah Mitchell and his wife Elizabeth (parents of Sarah Jane Mitchell). They are all my GGG-grandparents. John C. Davis and Sarah Jane Mitchell Davis had a son William Daniel (Dan) Davis who was a blacksmith in Statesboro, GA and is buried in Eastside Cemetery. I published a family history (Mitchell Family) in 1994 that details these families. The "double" comes in through John Clark's sister Hester Davis who married William Wesley Mitchell, brother of Sarah Jane Mitchell. Hester and Wm. Wesley are my GG-Grandparents. I suspect brothers of John Clarke Davis may have been William (Willie) Shep Davis' father -- but I don't have enough information about those Davis lines to connect him to any of them. See an outline of Levi and Susannah Bragg Davis family below. Any suggestions? Can anyone provide more information about these Davis lines? 2. I am still looking for information on the RICHARDSON's of Bulloch, Screven and Effingham Counties, pre-1850's. I have just been communicating with several "cousins" online who have provided some real movement in my hunt! Benjamin RICHARDSON (b. NC) married first Ann JONES, d/o John JONES; and second Sarah MIZELL. There were at least 3 sons of the first wife, including Amos, William and Hardy. William stayed behind in Bulloch County when Hardy and some of his stepsiblings and their families moved west to Louisiana and Mississippi, about 1805-1809. My ancestor was Jane RICHARDSON, reputed to be the daughter of Amos and Nancy (?) RICHARDSON. Amos died about 1800 in Bulloch County. Are there any RICHARDSON descendants from this family who stayed behind in GA who might have some additional information to share? Who as Nancy (?), wife of Amos? Did they have other children? What happened to Amos's brother William and that family? Robert S. Davis's book on Revolutionary Soldiers and patriots, includes Hardy and William who enlisted in 1782 as Privates supposedly as part of their allegiance "pennance" in the face of accusations that the family had "Tory" leanings !!
