    1. [GABULLOC] Maggie F. Banks; Martha Banks; Mittie Banks
    2. Kathy McElveen
    3. George, I agree with Smith that Maggie Banks is the same person as Margaret Banks, dau. of Simeon C., Sr. and Martha Streagle Banks. As far as Mittie E. Banks, it is very probable that she is the illegitimate dau. of Maggie, however, I believe there are other possibilities within the larger Banks family (I am curious about Lavinia Banks). Just wish we could connect a possible father; (which is why I would be interested in knowing what the 1870 Bulloch census shows as to neighboring families.) I don't have a copy of the census. The census files I previously mentioned were referenced by another Banks researcher. Guess I'll just have to hope some info from a family bible or family letters turns up. In the 1880 Bulloch Co. census reference to Henry M. Banks: I believe he is Henry McQueen Banks, son of Cuyler Banks. His wife, I believe, is Martha Clifford, b. abt 1856, GA. I have NFI on Martha Clifford. The Catherine referenced, I believe is Catherine Streagler Banks, wife (or widow) of Cuyler Banks. William & Thaddeous would be Henry McQueen Banks's first cousins and Martha Clifford Banks' brothers-in-law. The reference to Martha "head of family", 38 w/grdau. Mittie age 7: I believe this to be Martha Streagle Banks, widow of Simeon C. Banks. I also believe her age here is an error on the census and should be 58 instead of 38. She was supposedly living next door to Henry Mc Banks, Simeon's nephew. The 1900 Bulloch Co. census: Perry Morgan Hodges is my grandfather and his wife is Mittie Eugenia. (You listed "Minnie E.", don't know if that is a typo by you or an error on the census. I have all of the info on Mittie Eugenia Banks & the Hodges family beginning with her marriage abt. 1889 to Perry M.(Toad) Hodges. My father is Charlie Morgan Hodges, child #7 of 8 of Perry & Mittie Hodges. So far, I have nothing on Ezra Waters and Maggie Banks. I recently came across Keziah McElveen Flake when I was posting the Wm Emanuel McElveen descendents to my database. Good Luck! Kathy

    3. This the same virus that was circulating under another name ([email protected]) several weeks ago...YOU should NEVER try to open an attachment unless you ask the person who appears to have sent it, or you are expecting it to come... This virus blocks the senders mailbox from receiving any mail from all the people whom it sends messages to, thereby keeping the ones it infects from notifying the source that they have the virus... 2. Kathy McElveen
    3. Jan, I married a McElveen (Thomas Larry) and yes, his is the same line as yours. His father was Wilbur V. McElveen son of Moses Jackson McElveen and Laura Lee. We have the MCELVEEN book written by Lucy Deal Garland in 1978. If you have a copy, the Kenneth McElveen on the last page (I wish to thank the following people........) is my husband's brother. His mother is Sybil Anderson McElveen (90 yrs. old), dau. of Frank ANDERSON and Ruth PROCTOR. We have the book "The Proctor Family" and the index has many listings for DEAL; 2 Alberts. I am researching the BANKS family trying to find parents of my grandmother, Mittie Eugenia Banks b.16 Jul 1873, married Perry Morgan HODGES of Nevils community. My father was Charlie Morgan HODGES married to Nina Ruth LEWIS, granddaughter of Hamp SIKES of Evans Co (Sikes Chapel). My parents & grandparents are buried at Middleground Primitive Baptist Church. My HODGES family history also has Deal names listed. As soon as I can, I will! take a closer look at all my info to see if there is a connection to John Deal & Albert Deal families.

    3. I have to agree that they were in close proximity and that in those days, there was much more cooperation between the denominations...but I think if Zoar was a mission which resulted in formation of a church, then its' very existence would be noted in the written history of that Church... My guess is, they were separate groups of Believers...with slight Doctrinal differences. >From: "juan456" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [GABULLOC] Zoar Mission >Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 17:29:17 -0400 > >LARRY,,WHERE WAS WILLIAMS CHAPEL IN >BULLOCH JOHN >-----Original Message----- >From: Larry E. 2. Gerald Gieger
    3. I sent this privately but now it is to the List... Sanatoriums were Tuberculosis hospitals designed for the Quarantine, close observation, Rest and recuperation of those infected. That method of treatment has been surpassed by discoveries of modern medicine. Sanatariums (with an "a") were Mental hospitals... Those of us who spent time in TB Recuperation do not want people to think we were mentally ill... >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [GABULLOC] Re: GABULLOC-D Digest V01 #74 >Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 08:49:04 EDT > >In a message dated 6/22/01 7:01:44 AM Eastern Daylight Time, >[email protected] writes: > > > > Can someone tell me what the Georgia State Sanitarium in Baldwin Co. 2. Larry E. Bird
    3. One more comment on the Zoar Mission. I'm a United Methodist pastor orginally from Bulloch County. Growing up a Methodist there were four churches on the "Charge" which included a church near Clito called Eureka. The church is torn down now but the cemetery is well kept. According to the history of Eureka Methodist Church, it was organized in 1890 in a school, some of the teachers served as pastors. In 1910, Eureka was head of the Eureka Circuit. In 1949, the individual churches on the Eureka Circuit are listed as Eureka, Langston, Marion, and Williams Chapel. This is probably more information than you asked for, but according to some of the responses, the Zoar Mission could have later been called Eureka Methodist Church, although that is not in the written history of the church. At least they seem to be in the same area. Larry E. Bird <>< Hawkinsville, Ga. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Before we had regional mental hospitals in Georgia, there was one centralized hospital for patients needing psychiatric and/or other medical care and that was located in Milledgeville, GA. With the mental health reforms that took place in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the regional mental hospitals were built, like our Georgia Regional Hospital here in Savannah. Patients are now sent to the closest regional hospital versus all of them being sent to "Milledgeville" as I most commonly here the facility there called. When a college student in 1985, I had the opportunity to accompany a social work class there on a field trip. The facility is HUGE and now only a shadow of its former self in terms of the population to be found there relative to its capacity. I suspect that some were there who did not need mental health care, but also needed medical care. One of my relatives with tuberculosis spent his last days there in the 1940s. Perhaps there is someone who can tell us more, but I hope this little bit helps. Russell Bazemore
