Hello, I am new on the list and am providing my interests in Bryan County. My great grandfather, Samuel Isaac SIKES, son of Samuel SIKES (1813 -? ) and Elizabeth SMITH (abt 1809 - abt 1847), was born 4 Nov 1837 in Bryan Co., Georgia. 2 May 1862 (age 24) he joined the CSA, Co E, Phillips Legion, Hampton's Brigade, as a bugler. He was wounded and captured at Gettysburg. His pension records indicate that he resided in Macon in Bibb County, Georgia, but suffered health problems from his wounds. He later moved to Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, and had his pension sent to his wife, who remained in Macon. He died in Savannah 21 Oct 1924 (age 86) and was buried in Lot #33, Section K., Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Chatham Co., Georgia. He was married (probably in Bibb county) to Augusta Virginia BROOKS bef 1870 (age 33). Their children were Annie L. SIKES (23 Jul 1870 - 15 Apr 1949), Samuel Isaac SIKES (abt 14 Sep 1873 - 14 Jun 1895), Lila SIKES (abt 1875 - 7 May 1961), Hattie Virginia SIKES (abt 1876 - 28 Dec 1962). I have additional SIKES information on my web site listed below, but would be interested in any other SIKES information list members may have. If anyone has occasion to visit Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, I would certainly like to have a photograph of Samuel Isaac SIKES' grave. Of course I will pay for film, processing, mailing, etc. Thank You and Best Wishes, David in Alabama ddorsey@mindspring.com Researching my DORSEY family lines - Allen, Brooks, Cole, Dorsey, Edwards, Evans, Lackey, Murden, Phillips, Sikes(Sykes), Smith, Thornton, Whitlow, Whitt; and my spouse's FAULK family lines - Blackmon, Clark, Faulk, Hines, Johnson, Martin, Sikes, Sims, Snellgrove.
