Mary Anna Hendrix was the first wife of Columbus Andrew Marsh. They were married about 1881. She was born about 1850 in either Bryan or Bullock County, according to Census records. Her death date is listed as 1895 as she is not listed on the 1900 Bulloch Co Census (Columbus Marsh: 1900 GA Census, Bulloch Co,. Pg. 214B) Columbus A. and Mary Ann had 5 children. I have a copy of the Marriage Records of Bulloch County, GA (1796 through 1875) and it lists the following "MARY or MARY ANN HENDRIX/HENDRICKS:" Mary Ann Hendricks married Thomas Cates on 9 January 1849; (this is also shown in the Supplement) recorded in book 2A, page 157 Mary Hendricks married Mitchell Franklin 8 January 1855 recorded in book 2A, page 207 and Ann Hendrix married Alexander Brannen 9 January 1817 recorded in book 2A, page 14 There weren't any DUKE'S listed in Bulloch county for that time period. Of course, Bulloch, Bryan, Effingham, etc., were all close together. NOW, In "Marriage Records of Bulloch Co. GA, Supplement & Corrections, by A. Register" (Supplements - from 1796-1875 corrections/loose records) I found the following: There was a Reamer [J. R.] DUKES who married Anna BIRD on 30 Oct 1886 (could it have been Anna HENDRIX?? who had previously been married ? name rings a bell) Also: Eliza ANN Hendricks married Joseph A. PARRISH 20 Sept 1846 recorded in book 2A, page 142 As to the "tradition" about Mary who married a Duke, there were many tells about the Dukes in Bryan county. I wish I could tell you more about them.
