Hi, Evelyn, Like Sherry, I am a descendant of James Daniel Bell and Mary Hendrix (Hendricks) Bell, but I know little about either of them, like who their parents were. I would love to receive any info you have. Thanks so much! Sharlotte http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly Evelyn Hendricks wrote: > I have information on James D. Hi, Jerry, I have an Emaline Strickland (1846-about 1930) who married Millinder Carter Sims from Bryan County, and I have an Andrew P. Bell (born about 1863), the son of James Daniel Bell and Mary Hendrix Bell of Bryan County, but I do not know if these are any of the folks you are looking for. Our Bell and Strickland information is on our genealogy web page at: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly under the "reports" section under the report on "Ancestors of Kathleen Bell," my mother. Let me know what you find out. Thanks. Jerry, Sent message direct but must have used incorrect email address. Responding to your message regarding Andrew P. Bell. My Andrew P. Bell was born abt 1863 (per 1880 Bulloch Co Census). His father was my great grandfather, J.D. (James Daniel) Bell b 08Nov1828 in South Carolina. JD married Mary Hendricks/Hendrix b 28Feb1835 in Bulloch Co and d 05Apr1908 in Bryan Co. Both interred Little Creek Cemetery, Ft Stewart GA. Possible, since I have little, confirmed, information beyond JD Bell, that your Andrew was the brother of JD Bell. This info is from notes, did not check my FTM, but do have more information on the family of JD Bell. Do you have any Bell information that could help me and other researchers? Sherry
Has this cemetery been cataloged???

I was able to access both Effingham and Bryan counties. Since it is only rootsweb you are having trouble with, I suggest you either try a different browser or contact rootsweb tech support or something like that. Have been searching for the parents of Celia BRAGG who married James P. DICKEY. Their daughter was Sophia Frances DICKEY and she married Simeon T. BURKE. This couple went on to live between Jenkins and Screven Counties. from the circa 1845 - 1915 and are buried in Green Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. One of the BURKE sons (or rather two of them) married POYTHRESS sisters whose parents were Nathanial Harper and Rachel FLAKE POYTHRESS..I would really appreciate any help on these lines especially when Celia and James married, the parents of Celia and POYTHRESS. None of the Poythress seem to think that my NH is any kin to them. I think a hurricane must have blown him in from a ship. I was told that Celia may have been born in Bryan County. Please try to help. Doris BURKE ODOM <grannie_@msn.com>
Bird Smith Cemetery has been surveyed and posted to the Bryan County GenWeb page. There is a lot of good research in that cemetery. View it at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gabryan/cemet.html

Hi, I thought you might be interested in posting these photos of the McClelland Family of Bulloch County (they lived in the area where Bulloch, Bryan, & Effingham Counties touch along the Ogeechee River) in the early 20th century. William and Manie McClelland were my great-grandparents. Thanks. Sharlotte Neely Donnelly
Hello, I am new on the list and am providing my interests in Bryan County. My great grandfather, Samuel Isaac SIKES, son of Samuel SIKES (1813 -? ) and Elizabeth SMITH (abt 1809 - abt 1847), was born 4 Nov 1837 in Bryan Co., Georgia. 2 May 1862 (age 24) he joined the CSA, Co E, Phillips Legion, Hampton's Brigade, as a bugler. He was wounded and captured at Gettysburg. His pension records indicate that he resided in Macon in Bibb County, Georgia, but suffered health problems from his wounds. He later moved to Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, and had his pension sent to his wife, who remained in Macon. He died in Savannah 21 Oct 1924 (age 86) and was buried in Lot #33, Section K., Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Chatham Co., Georgia. He was married (probably in Bibb county) to Augusta Virginia BROOKS bef 1870 (age 33). Their children were Annie L. SIKES (23 Jul 1870 - 15 Apr 1949), Samuel Isaac SIKES (abt 14 Sep 1873 - 14 Jun 1895), Lila SIKES (abt 1875 - 7 May 1961), Hattie Virginia SIKES (abt 1876 - 28 Dec 1962). I have additional SIKES information on my web site listed below, but would be interested in any other SIKES information list members may have. If anyone has occasion to visit Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, I would certainly like to have a photograph of Samuel Isaac SIKES' grave. Of course I will pay for film, processing, mailing, etc. Thank You and Best Wishes, David in Alabama ddorsey@mindspring.com Researching my DORSEY family lines - Allen, Brooks, Cole, Dorsey, Edwards, Evans, Lackey, Murden, Phillips, Sikes(Sykes), Smith, Thornton, Whitlow, Whitt; and my spouse's FAULK family lines - Blackmon, Clark, Faulk, Hines, Johnson, Martin, Sikes, Sims, Snellgrove. Hello All, found this on another list and thought it was pretty interesting. Dottie "Dating Photographs" Daguerrotypes were silver-clad copper sheets mounted behind glass and encased in a hinged leatherette case. They were popular from 1840 to 1870, approx., although I don't think they saw widespread use in this country until the mid- to late-1850s. Ferrotypes (true tin types) were evident in this country from 1856 until World War II or even later. After 1870 some tintypes have a chocolate or brownish tint and many employ painted backdrops and fake props. Pre-1870 tintypes will have a plain backdrop. Tiny tintype portraits -- 7/8 by one inch -- were popular from 1863 to 1890. Carnival tintypes - traveling photographers were in use from 1875 until the 1940s. These photos often have painted backdrops such as Niagra Falls, beach scenes, novelty props or comic set ups. Cabinet or studio cards - paper prints mounted on cardboard stock came around in the post-Civil War era. I believe they became most popular in the post-1880 period. The best way to try and date photos is by clothing styles. Experts can tell the difference, it all looks the same to me.
