The 1860 Bryan County census transcribed by E. L. Williams in 1984 for the Huxford Genealogical Society, reports that Thomas and family lived in House #60. In that household lived: Thomas Strickland age 48 Farmer $5000 R.E. $242 P. E. Born NC Winney 43 GA Sarah 23 William 21 James 19 Louisa 15 Martha 13 Nancy 11 Josephine 6 Henry G. 5 Susan 4 Georgian 3 Robert, John M. 41 Laborer Thompson, McDonald 21 In the 1850 Bryan County census Thomas was listed as William Strickland, age 38. His wife was listed as Miram, age 27. Children listed were: John N. Strickland Age 12 Sarah J. Strickland Age 10 James G. Strickland Age 8 William H. Strickland Age 6 Josephene M. Strickland 4 Georgia L. Strickland Age 2 Frances C. Strickland Age 8 months Since he was listed as William in 1850 and Thomas in 1860, I feel safe in assuming he was William Thomas Strickland. Both were born about 1812. Are Winney and Miram different wives or the same person???? They have different ages in 1850 and 1860. Still no clue about this family after the 1860 census. Some have suggested he may have died in the Civil War -- perhaps he did and his wife remarried before 1870 and has a different last name????? Alfred (Al) Chassereau AChasserea@aol.com

Unless I missed something, this is the only refrence to any military record for a Strickland: In the Strickland Cemetery in, I believe, Upper part of Bryan (which is one of many being listed as being in the Fort Stewart Military Reservation) there is Sarah J. Strickland 1849-1856. Then there is a John N. Strickland 1837 - 1862 listed as Bryan Independent Rifleman, Co A, 25th Regiment, Georgia Volunteers, Confederate States Army. You've probably already checked this but do you know if he served and died in the war? Gloria
I see mention of Gadi Strickland b 1778. William b 1812. (Are you sure your Thomas was not maybe William Thomas Strickland? I ask, because I noticed he named a child William.) These two are listed as living in area of the Canoochee section, and areas around Black Creek and Mill Creek in upper part of Bryan Co. And there is a deed of March 24 1853 from Elijah Strickland to Cyrus Bird and A.G. Smith 80 acres of land bounded by lands of Morgan, Bird and Smith and unknown land and grants to said Elijah Strickland. There is a Strickland Cem. also. There are many Strickland names, but these are the only ones close to what you asked. Thanks for your message and the Sutton info. I can add a little to what you have. James J. and William M. married, lived and died in Emanuel Co. If you are interested in their children, I have a good bit of info on James and his family of 11 children. I have much more on the desc. of William who was my husband's g grandfather. I also have big gaping holes in the line. William died before the 1900 census (date unknown) from measles and probably pneumonia. A graddaughter related " He had measles and got wet and died in a few hours." In the 1900 census his children were all living with uncles, either James Sutton or Martin connections. Harriet had died by 1900 of TB. The cemetery of James's family as well as William and Harriet is Sim Warren Cemetery near Stillmore in Emanuel Co. She also said he had 4 brothers and 1 sister namely Ed, John, Jim and Winefield and sister Linda. Neither your list or mine has a John listed althought there is a John R. in Emanuel Co. at time of 1900 Census with wife Georgia and daugther Gladys b. Oct 1899. So at least some of the other children of James and Hulda should show up somewhere, just finding the right county is the problem. I do have one other problem with the James E. Sutton information. There is a marriage in Emanuel Co. for "Sutton James E. and Martin, Merendy Huldy on 1 Feb 1850" Wonder who he is? Enough to think about for a while? Pauline Eubanks

James married into my Sims family -- my gg-aunt Mahulda (Hulda) A. Sims. She was the sister of my gg-grandfather, Elbert C. Sims. Below is two generations of information I have about this family. I have not been able to learn where James originated nor who were his parents. I have some additional generations of information on some of the children that I can share. Some of the children seemed to disappear without any record -- perhaps they died early or moved away from the area. Wanted: ANY TYPE documentation / proof of relationship of Israel BIRD (father) and William BIRD (son). Considering the public offices held by Israel BIRD and William BIRD (some noted below) in the communities of Bryan, Bulloch, Screven and Effingham Counties, GA, it seems likely there would be some information on record to prove their relationship as father and son. Hi I am new to your list. I am searching for info on William P. Cannady, born in Emanuel County, Ga., in 1856, died 1925 who married Marriah Olliff, born 1852 died 1907. They married around 1873 and had 8 children. They lived in Emanuel Co and in Candler Co. They are buried at the Olliff Family Cemetery in Olliff Town. When Marriah died William married Rosie Lee Bailey and had four more children. His father was Daniel B. Cannady born 1831 died 1887 who married Rebecca Durden born 1837 died 1910. They had eight children. We believe the brothers of Daniel B. are William E. Cannady and James H. Cannady. They each married Durden sisters. I have the names of the children of Daniel & Rebecca and the names of the children of William & Marriah. Can anyone add to my info, especially in locating the parents of Daniel B. Cannady? If so please e-mail me at CannadyGirl@aol.com or post to this list. Thank you in advance, Claudia

Hi, Sherry and everyone, You will note, Sherry, that I am sending a copy of my replies (this is part one of four or more) to the Bulloch County, Georgia and Bryan County, Georgia genealogy lists so that the maximum number of those affected will be notified. You emailed me on June 7th that I had submitted your Bell family data to LDS without your permission. My first reaction was an honest one. I said I did not do that, and I thought I was correct in saying that. As you know, my mother-in-law died (an awful fight with brain cancer) the day after you emailed me, and I said I would get back to you after I had finished my obligations and mourning surrounding her death. I have now caught up with my email and will answer as promised. I thought you were mistaken since I "knew" I had not submitted your data. I was wrong. I have two genealogy files on my computer. One with information no one has a problem with being public and a second one that also contains (1) your working data and (2) my husband's uncle's (his mother's brother's) family data which is complete but which he never wants to be made public, even to other close family (he feels everyone should have to go through the research independently without help, that hard work will do them good). In the second file, I also put theories, speculations, anything to research further. Well, I goofed big time. I submitted the wrong file. (I am still trying to understand how I could have made such a blunder.) I must, therefore, apologize to you and to my husband's uncle. ( I confess that with my husband's uncle I may wait a few more weeks to tell him since he is devastated by my mother-in-law's--his sister's--death.) I will check again, but even my second file should credit you with all the research. I want to preserve, not take credit for, your research. For some of the data (the Shivers Swamp story, for example), you should also see my late grandmother, Nevada McClelland Bell, credited, as well as the Georgia Archives. Hopefully, in contacting the Bulloch and Bryan lists, everyone will be clear the research is yours. (Let me know who else you want me to contact.) Hopefully, you will believe my sincere apology and that I made a real--if horribly painful--mistake in submitting your working data to LDS. I hope you will check to see that even though it should not be there at all, that you are credited with the work. Someday I hope you will submit your finished data since it will be more complete and obviously the ultimate research on the Bells. In response to questions, and this will be my final, online, response to all of the emails that I am receiving. This matter was not about names, dates and data that we all share with each other. This was about a private mini biography that I composed, including quotes from family members that was presented to an elderly aunt on her 86th Birthday, last October. It was copied to the name that you have, unfortunately, seen so frequently on your screens today, with the note that it was for family only. Please, let this be the end of it. Thank you
