I have an Amanda O'NEAL in my family line who was b. 1832 in Twiggs Co., GA to Britton "Britt" O'NEAL, b. Abt. 1782, d. 1867 and Ann EASTERLING, b. 1790, SC, d. 1867, Quitman, Brooks Co., GA. Ann and Britt were m. Dec. 26, 1805 in Robeson Co., NC. They died the same day and are buried in the same grave in the Alderman Cem., Brooks Co., GA. The grave is marked, "Two in One". Amanda O'NEAL m. D. H. ALDERMAN. They are also buried in the Alderman Cemetery, Brooks Co., GA. I also have a gg grandfather, William MANNING, b. Abt 1830 who shows up as a 20-yr-old on the 1850 census in Lowndes Co., GA. Brooks Co. was formed from Lowndes and Thomas Cos. in 1858. William MANNING m. Amanda SIMMS in Brooks Co., GA July 26, 1864. She was the d/o Allen Merrill SIMMS and Prudence BOWDEN. William and Amanda gave birth to my g grandmother, Jane Elizabeth MANNING, b. Feb. 14, 1858 in GA, d. Feb. 19, 1909, and is buried at Lebanon Cem., Pavo, Thomas Co., GA. She had brothers, William MANNING, b. May 1853 in Brooks Co., GA, and Gatlin MANNING, b. 1861 in Brooks Co., GA. Jane Elizabeth MANNING married my g grandfather, John Thomas JONES in Brooks Co., GA, Jan. 2, 1879. He was a farmer, blacksmith, and justice of the peace in the Empress community of Brooks Co., GA when he d. Jan. 1941. He is buried at Hickory Head Cemetery. Jane and "Mr. Tom" gave birth to my paternal grandfather, William Irvin JONES. He m. Gillie BROWN of Madison Co., FL in June 1914. They gave birth to my father, Sam Thomas JONES, b. July 15, 1916 and d. Jan. 8, 1983 in GA. I have always been told Jane E. MANNING JONES was a full-blood Indian. I have been trying to prove that. Some of my fellow SIMMS and MANNING researchers have also been trying to make a Native American connection. Allen Merrill SIMMS is believed to be illegitimate and b. around Twiggs Co., GA.
