Ga Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Brooks?read=322 Surname: Young, King, Bryant ------------------------- I have a Henry Young married to a Sophronia on the 1870 census in Colquitt Co. Their oldest child was 17. So that would make them married sometime around 1852. I have them again in Berrien Co. in 1880 census. I have not been able to locate them in the 1860 census. I suspect Sophronia was a King because I found a copy of Civil War Pension for Henry which has a witness statement by a John H. King, who states that he is Henry's brother-in-law. Henry served with the Brooks County Sons. Another connection. I have Henry in the 1850 census in Monroe Co., GA by himself. I know he came from SC. I have his family traced to Ireland and Scotland. Could your Kings be connected to these. Any help will be appreciated.

    3. Patricia, I checked the index of "Brooks County Georgia: Echoes of Its People" for your ancestors listed below. This is what I found on page 25. Confederate Veterans and Widows on the Tax Digest for Brooks County, GA 1908 - 1936: Information given: Name, Unit, Year enlisted and Discharged, Years on Tax Digest, and Mailing Address. 13. BRYANT, John, Company H, 50th Georgia Regiment, 1862 in Colquitt, Georgia, 1865 at Point Lookout, 1908 - 1919 Pavo, Georgia. 112. SWINT, D. D., Company E, 48th Georgia Regiment, 1862 in Warren County, Georgia, 1908 - 1919, Pavo, Georgia. The BRYANT surname is listed on pages 16, 22, 73, 76, 179, 190, 191, 202, 235, 256, and the KITCHENS surname is listed on pages 54, 83,101, 265, 267, 281, 318, and 319 in this book. Since there are so many and I don't have the time to check all of these pages for you, I would suggest you go through the book at a library near you or request look ups by another member of the GABROOKS-List. I would be happy to help you, but I'm trying to get a lot of loose ends tied up before my poodle has surgery tomorrow and I have surgeries later this month. I also checked the index of "A Survey of Brooks County Cemeteries" for your surnames. This is what I found: BRYANT burials listed on pages 49, 52, 71, 84, 97, 120, 148, 159, 173, 257, 268, and 292. KITCHENS burials listed on pages 196 and 239. SWINT - None. 3. Posted on: Brooks Co. Ga Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Brooks?read=313 Surname: ------------------------- Mt. Zion Methodist Church is also known as "Campground" Church because they annually held brush arbor meetings in pioneer days. It is located in Morven, Ga. Actually, it is located about 1 mile north of the main crossroads in Morven on Ga.76. The church is located just off the eastside of the highway with a large cemetery on the church grounds. There is another paved road that curves past the church and goes back into Morven and meets Ga.94 just east of Morven. I grew up about 20 miles from this spot and am quite familiar with this cemetery since some family members are buried there. The Old Coffee Road, a pioneer trail that connected Jacksonville, Ga. to Thomasville, Ga. runs right near the church which is the oldest Methodist Church in the Morven area. The church is painted white and is a historic structure. I think there is a Georgia Historical marker on the grounds if I recall correctly. Actually I'm not used to hearing it called Mt. Zion because the old folks in my family always called it Campground Methodist Church at Morven. I'm looking at a Brooks County map and it states the official name is Mt. Zion Church. Hope this helps. God bless you.

Its been there for as long as I can remember. I was home for a visit a few weeks ago and Kuhn's is still there in the same place. Kuhn's is located at 3802 Beach Blvd. My Jacksonville phone book is from 1990/1, but unless they have changed it their phone # is 398-8601 or 1 800 458 5846. to the best of my knowledge Kuhn's is the largest and the nicest Florist in Jacksonville. At least it was when I lived there. My family also came from the Brooks County area at one time. I don't know where you are located but I now live in Oklahoma and there is a number of Culpeppers here in this area. Could give you more info on that perhaps if it is of interest to you.
