Although I do not trace through Sheffields, I remember seeing enough information to lead me to suspect that the Bulloch County, Georgia Sheffields are somehow tied to the ones in Laurens Co., Georgia. Early Sheffields probably came through Duplin Co., NC. There were Sheffields in Virginia by 1700. Thought this might help someone who was looking for the Sheffield family information.

Spain), "Forest Hills" (Francis Jones), and the James Oliver Morton plantation. I am particularly interested in the status of the Eudora plantation site (I read that the house burned in 1987--has any attempt at restoration/rehabilitation been made?) and I am also curious as to the condition of the James O. Morton home (is is still standing/condition). I am collecting this information for a possible graduate level research project at UGA, so any information would be very much appreciated! Lindsay, did you interview your neighbor, Simon THOMAS for as much information as possible? You need to fill out a family history sheets for Mr. THOMAS and his family or ask him to give you information such as: >the names of his parents, >their birth dates, >where they were born, >when they were married, >the names of their children and their birth dates, >if they are still living or their date of death, >places they have lived, >where they are buried, and >any other family history. Does he have a family Bible or family photos that he could share with you? You need to start with Simon THOMAS, his wife, and his children. Start in the present and work back through his ancestors. It would be easier for those of us on this mailing list to help you if you could give us some names and dates. There are a lot of genealogical resources available to you at the Brooks County Library in Quitman, GA. The librarians there are very helpful and will explain to you the best way to use the materials they have in the genealogical room at the library. I did check the index of my copy of "A Survey of Brooks County Cemeteries" for your Simon Thomas. I didn't think I would find him listed since you stated he was your neighbor. There are many listings for the surname of THOMAS in Brooks Co., GA. If you can provide the given names for Simon's THOMAS Family, I'll see if I can find them for you. If you'll really get involved in this project, you'll learn a lot and enjoy doing your term paper. Harry, I was in Brooks County yesterday and made it a point to look for a road sign for Bethel Church Road. It is there big as day but also shiney and new. I did not remember a sign a couple of years ago when I made my first trip over there. It appears that the sign is rather new and to be honest I do not remember it being there sometime last year. Perhaps I just did not notice it. One give away is that the sign is mounted on a treated 4x4 post and it still has some of its color. Sometimes when we already know the area we dont look at stuff like that. I just thought you would like that piece of information. I have not made it to the Bethany cemetery yet as time did not permit me to do it. I went to the Prosperity Cemetery and took pics of all the graves in there. I have gotten a couple more Folsom headstones that I will get off to you asap. Happy hunting you all. charles t. zeigler
I've been told that my grandmother's family attended a Primitive Baptist Church in/near Quitman where she grew up. I believe she has ancestors buried there also. Is there more than one? Could anyone give me directions to it/them? I hope to visit this summer to locate the gravesites of Tuckers, Albrittons, and Sanders. Ryan, If you will go to your local LDS church you can order the films which will give you the marriage info you are seeking. The Male index for Brooks county is film #0164385, the female index is film #0164386. If you are truly interested in genealogy rather than just a college project you will find the research will be more personal. charles t. zeigler On Sun, 22 Apr 2001 04:11:15 -0700 (PDT) "Ryan D.
