    3. I have good news and bad news about the book, "Brooks County, Georgia : Echoes of Its People." The bad news is that it is no longer available. The good news is that the Brooks County Historical Society is in the final stages of gathering information for a Volume II. Family histories can be sent to Alene Kitchens, P O Box 568, Quitman, GA 31643. Deadline is Nov 1 so the sooner the better. I am sorry I got the news out so late on this. It was a surprise to me too. However, I am in need of any information on my great-great grandparents; a John Phillips (possibly John H. Phillips) and his wife Laura Phillips (possibly Anna Laura Phillips). Both were African-American with Indian blood. Based on oral history from my grandmother, they were both former slaves. It is not known their exact ages/birthdates/death as all records were destroyed in a fire many, many years ago. I beleive that Laura passed on some time in the 1940's and that John died probably died in the late 1930's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Lewis was my gg-grandfather. He married Mary Wesson. Their son, John, my g-grandfather, married Mary McGill. Their son, Willie, married Ruth Norris, and they were the parents of my mother, Connie. The family eventually ended up in Madison Co., FL. The reason I was drawn to your query is because I have heard my mother mention a Sophronia who was her cousin if I'm not mistaken. I will go back and ask her about that. Althought the Sophronia in Jesse's and Eliza's home would surely have preceded my mother's time, it could be a family name passed down.
