Gaila Hi Ray and Harold, I have also included my cousins Sandra and Darien, This information is from Darien, my cousin on the Johnson, Schofield and Hatfield branches of my family. Maybe we can all work together and see who is Civil War's Young Johnson's parents. He lived with our Cousin William Reese Busbee in Macon in the 1860 census. So we thought they could be cousins. Our 3Great grandmothers were Lillian Busbee Johnson AND Charity Busbee Schofield, sisters to William Reese Busbee's father, James. There was also an older Young Johnson and we wonder if their was a connection there. Lets work together on this, Gaila ----- YOUNG JOHNSON (Older) Born @1790 CENSUS: 1830 - Bibb Co. 1 male 40 - 50 yrs; 1 male 5 or under and 1 female 5 or under 1840 - Bibb Co. 1 male 40 - 50 years of age. The following taken from the "Macon Messenger": Mar 1836: Young Johnson appointed guardian of William Young Smith, son of Gatsey Smith. (Gatsey could have been his daughter????) This could be the male in 1830 census, or could have been Young, Jr. as he was born @1829.) June 7, 1826: "At a meeting of the citizens of Macon, held at the Mansion House on the 2d instant, for the purpose of making arrangements in order to celebrate the approaching anniversary of American Independence, the following were in attendance.." - Twelve men among whom was "YOUNG JOHNSON". Dec 20, 1828: YOUNG JOHNSON is now a J.P. - Witnessed several deeds in Bibb County, signed: "Young Johnson, J.P." Jan. 1830: Young Johnson was elected Sheriff of Bibb Co. 1830 & 1831, In several sheriff sales, Young Johnson signed: "YOUNG D. JOHNSON, Sheriff. Aug 1831, Member of Grand Jury. >From Deed Books: Jan 31, 1840, high bidder on tract of land sold at sheriff's sale: Paid $100 for lot number 8 in square 25 in Macon. In "Macon Messenger"- Sheriff's Sale to satisfy fifa - Bibb Co Jan 1830, Sale of lot 6, sq 45, ppty of Young J. Mar 1830, Sale of 3 negroes ppty of Young Johnson July 1830 West half, lot 21, pty of Young J. Oct 1830 Sale of 1 negro man, Sam & east half, lot 21, western range Nov 1830 Sale of east half, Lot 21 Macon Messenger - Jan 15, 1831 Georgia Legislature, List of Acts: "To vest in Young Johnston and his associates, their heirs and assigns, the right of erecting and using a floating mill on Ocmulgee River, within the limits of the Macon reserve." He must have died Aug or Sep, 1845, as that is date of first petition for administration. "Administration - Bibb Co - Estate of Johnson, Young: Sept. 1845 Petition for Administration; Executor: William King, Successor, James Gates. Bond of $2,000.00. Return - Book C, pg 229. (I had to get the lady to bring this book over from bldg. where old records are stored and it is very difficult to read: "Articles belonging to the Estate of Young Johnston (this is only time has the "t" in name): 1 bureau, 2 desks, 1 bedstead, 1 matrap, 2 iron pots, 2 chairs, 1 pair andirons, 1 pistol, 1 trunk, 1 pair saddle bags, 1 watch, County biders (?) the amount of six hundred dollars, three tracts of land parcels." That is no further info, no will. YOUNG JOHNSON - (Younger) - Born @1829 1850 Census - Bibb Co. - Young Johnson lived with W.R. Busby (Jr.) in Rutland District 21 years old 1860 Census - Bibb Co. - In Rutland District: Young, 30, Farmer; Value of Real estate $2500, Personal $2800 Emaline 18 (Probably should be 28, as age is different on next census.) Pam 7 James 5 William 2 Adolphus 3 Also in household: David Mitchell, 60, Farm Laborer Edward Wright, 30 " Martin Davis, 38 " Cicero Johnson, 21 " ?? Johnson, Female, 13 Three doors down was W.R. Busby In 1860 Slave Schedule for Bibb Co, Rutland District, Young Johnson had 11 slaves (5 adults & 6 chldren). Young shows up on Houston Tax Records in 1856 and 1859. There is a marriage record in Bibb Co: Young Johnson married Martha Hartley Nov. 1852. Martha's name is listed as Emaline on census', probably Emaline Martha. 1870 Census - Houston Co. (5th District) Young, 40, farmer, Value of real estate $500 Emmeline, 38, Keeping House Amelia, 16 (ages are difficult to read), At Home James, Farm Laborer, age?? William, 12 Adolphus, 10 Beauregard, 8 George R., 6 Luther (or Arthur) age?? Charity age ?? YOUNG JOHNSON was in Civil War, 11th Regiment, Co. K - Houston Volunteers. From Henderson books on Civil War in Washington Library: "Johnson, Young - Private Mar. 4, 1862. Appointed 4th Corporal. Severely wounded at Cold Harbor, Va., June 3, 1864. Admitted to Stuart Hospital at Richmond Va. June 13, 1864. Furloughed for 60 days Aug. 5, 1864. In Floyd House and Ocmulgee Hospitals at Macon, Ga., where left thigh was amputated, Oct. 14, 1864." DEEDS - BIBB CO Deed Book Q April 11, 1860, Bibb Co, Young Johnson sold to James D. Hartley of Bibb for $360, parcel of land in the Fourth district of originally Houston now Bibb (Rutland District) containing 41 acres, SW corner of Lot 133. Witnessd by W.R. Busbee and John Bartow- signed by Young Johnson Deed Book Q, pg 456 Feb 18, 1861 - Young Johnson of Bibb sold to W. Ward of Houston Co for $960, tract of land lying in Fourth district of originally Houston, now Bibb (Rutland district), lot #132 containing 100 acres, being east half of said lot and 40 acres of lot 133, lying in north west corner. Witnessed by Benjamin Baf (?) & Joshua Harrell - Signed Young Johnson Deed Book Q, pg 239 Feb 27, 1861 - Indenture between Young Johnson and Samuel S. Dunlap, both of Bibb Co: For sum of $2 dollars as well as the securing the payment of the note herein after described, Young Johnson conveys to ---Dunlap, east half of Lot 132 in Fifth district of originally Houston, now Bibb (Rutland District), containing 100 acres and north west corner of lot 132, containing 40 acres & conveyed to him by deed of conveyance from W.R. Busbee Feb 18, 1861. --the said William Johnson will & his heirs or executors & Administrators shall the afore granted promises to the said Samuel Dunlap his heirs, etc. Provided nevertheless that if the said Young Johnson shall pay unto Samuel Dunlap-- the amount of promissory note made by Young Johnson payable to the said Samuel Dunlap as dated on first day of January last & due on Dec 31 next, bearing interest from the date thereof for the sum of $1070. Witness Robert A. Morris, Signed by Young Johnson Deed Book Q, pg 466 February 13, 1862 - Young Johnson of Houston Co. sold to Ebenezer W. Jackson of Houston Co, for $600 tract of land in Fourth District of originally Houston now Bibb, (Rutland District) west half of Lot # 133 and 132 containing 100 acres more of less. Signed Young Johnson Houston Co. Mar 16, 1872: Young Johnson and Martha Johnson (wife) of Houston Co sold to Saulsbury Respess & Co. (for $270) 1 bay horse mule named Rock 1 creamed color mule named Julia Ann 1 black mare mule names Nell 1 creamed color mare named Queen. Witnesses: William Johnson & Joseph Jenson
