I recently came into posession of a book my grandmother jotted in, regarding her various belongings & their origins. in it are also several nuggets that 'contradict' info I'd found or been told, and even some to make me more curious! [gotta love this adiction, er, hobby!] she mentions her father's home & work being in Macon; he was Edward Moore JONES, s/o Payton Wade JONES, a WBTS veteran. Edward md Ida A. MELL; their dau Virginia F JONES was b11/1892. she also mentions "mama's cousin", Josephine MELL who md Charles NEWTON and had 3 sons, Chas Jr., Arthur, and Mell. Chas md Lizzie BROWN, they had 2 sons & one daughter; Arthur md Sarah ? they had one son [Jr?]; Mell md Carrie Mae ? who died suddenly, less than 1 yr after marriage. they all lived in Macon, GA. I'm interested in corresponding with any and all folk researching these families as I try to figure out assorted 'aunts' and 'uncles' I read or have heard about. also, if anyone has had experience researching court or bankruptcy records, I'm interested in learning more about doing same, particularly from a distance. supposedly, Edward JONES had some financial or tax trouble that caused his daughter to marry early, possibly by 6 months. the newspaper accounts of her wedding parties etc mention that she selected her wedding date to honor her parents, and marry on their anniversary. in this book I found, she repeatedly writes that her parents married 3/9/1892. my grandmother married 11/15/1916.
