I'm not able to answer this question....but hoped that someone on our list might be able to give us some leads. the GMD (Military Districts) changed often, and the early ones were usually named after the military leader of the group. Later these were converted to the numbering system that they use today. Now if someone could help us figure out by looking at the names within the Godfrey District in 1840....perhaps we could give a good guess as to the location of the persons. I wonder if Washington Memorial Library might have a listing of these early districts. Bibb County needs to have more census records on-line..... If anyone has access to the 1840 census perhaps you could share some of the names within Godfrey's District and see if we could figure out what area of the county it was in. Thanks for helping on this one.... >From: "Bob & Judy Bryant" <[email protected]> >To: <[email protected]> >Subject: 1840 Bibb Co Census >Date: Thu, 4 Apr 2002 08:24:47 -0800 >X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000 > > >Virginia, You may not be the one to answer this, but I'm confident >you can guide me in the right direction.
