Just above the census section of our Bibb County home page, we find the section that shows links to pages relating to deaths and related records in Bibb County. Please consider that daily duties and responsibilities of cemeteries and funeral homes will have a higher priority than your genealogy requests. Cemetery Offices This page lists known cemeteries in the Macon - Bibb County area that are currently operating. Addresses and phone numbers are listed and where the info is available, I have tried to post how to contact them to send requests. Cemetery Lists on Bibb County, GA AHGP web site This link will take you another website that is part of a similar project like The GAGenWeb Project. In some cases our info will overlap, but Stephanie does have some info on this page that we haven't been able to get ourselves, so it's worth a visit... Cemetery Lists in Bibb County Archives When you visit the Bibb County portion of the GAGenWeb archives, you find many submissions from some very generous folks. Many volunteers have worked hard to survey cemeteries and transcribe records to help us all with our family research and cemetery searches. Additions and corrections from personal records and documents are welcome. Funeral Homes -- Present & Past Times change, and so do the owners and locations of funeral homes. these two links provide information concerning contacts and brief histories of local funeral homes and when they existed, their clientele, etc. Old Funeral Records This page contains a letter from Dr. Schmidt who is the library director at the Washington Memorial Library. He has graciously allowed us to post it on the site to give us all an idea of the resources held by the library regarding the past records of old funeral homes, cemeteries , death records, and obituaries for this area. Take time to read the page and see what the library has to offer! Obituaries This page is meant to be the home of many obituaries and resources for obituaries of citizens with past history in Bibb County, GA. Presently, we have one obituary posted on our site itself, and we need more. More obituaries are located in the Bibb County section of the GAGenWeb Archives. You are welcome to post obituaries to both places. Submission to our Bibb County web site may be sent to me by using the address on the obituary site page. Archive submissions must be submitted through suggested form on the archives pages. Please be sure you have documented permission to post any obituary you have not written /published yourself. Please note that there some resources for obituary lookups listed on this page as well. Deaths On this page you will find list of deaths and possibly the source of the record ... this should help researchers to locate records and documentation for their data. As always, more data is welcome. Jennifer Sherwood Braswell GABIBB County Coordinator The GAGenWeb Project GABIBB-admin@rootsweb.com --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I just wanted to let our new list members know that just before they subscribed to our list yesterday, that we had begun a roll call of the surnames of the families we are researching in Bibb County, GA. If you wish to participate, you can send a post listing the surnames and the time period they spent in Bibb County to the list. We have already had some interaction among those who have already posted, and this is the whole idea of posting here... to find others who may connect or lead us to that next tidbit of information we need. Keep it up folks! Also, feel free as I did to ask one or two questions that you would like to have answered...brick walls, etc. Another item for all listers... If you would like to have your surnames posted our Surname page on the Bibb County GAGenWeb site, please let me know in your post or privately if you have already posted. I can retrieve the information from the past two days Roll Call if you wish, but will only do so if you notify me. Also, URLS for your personal family pages if they include Bibb related families, are welcome for that section of our web site as well. Addresses of contributors are listed separately and are not set up as active links. Visit these pages to see how this is done: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gabibb/bfam.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~gabibb/contacts.htm I plan to begin to do a roll call of some kind regularly at the end of each month, so if you wish to refrain this time and wait, this is fine. I am sure there are some who are busy recovering from the hurricanes who will return later to post as well. I'm researching the families of John H. TIDWELL (ca 1827-5/2/1895) and his second wife Sarah McCANNON (ca 1852-1921?), who are my husband's great-great grandparents through their son George Henderson Tidwell. They resided in Oglethorpe County for many years, but John H. Tidwell's parents and siblings were from Bibb County. He is the son of Hugh Millen Tidwell and Nancy STRAWBRIDGE. John H. Tidwell was first married to Charlotte PASS of Bibb County in the early 1850's. His second wife, Sarah McCannon, was the daughter of UNKNOWN and Sarah UNKNOWN. She spent most of her life in Oglethorpe County. I've seen her family name spelled various ways: including McCommon, McCammon, and simply Cannon. Kelli Mallard Sun City, CA

Mathis, of Buena Vista and Miss Jessie Lane, daughter of Maj. Tom Lane, of Macon, were married Wednesday morning at the home of the brides parents, and immediately boarded the train for Buena Vista, where the arrived the same afternoon at 5 oclock. Doctor Mathis is the clerk of the Superior Court of this county, and a more clever, generous-hearted gentleman never lived. His life has been and is that of a typical Christian and what he is at his devotions on Sunday, he is the same every day in his office. No man in the county has a greater hold upon the affections of the people than he, and they love him, not for what he seems to be, but for what he is. Miss Jessie Lane, his bride, was one of the most accomplished young ladies of the Central City, and Dr. Mathis is to be congratulated on winning the heart and hand of one possessing so many womanly virtues and Christian graces. The string band intended serenading them Wednesday night, but one of its members was indisposed. The Patriot extends congratulations to the doctor and his bride.
