The George born 1833 in Bibb County, Georgia is a mystery. His parents were Lemuel and Edith 'Watson. Can you trace your George to Bibb County and Lemuel and Edith? The 2nd George is George Washington Watson born 1858 in Stewart County, Georgia. He is the son of Nancy Caroline Watson, daughter of Lemuel and Edith Watson. George went with the family to Jones County, MS and I know his spouses---Clarissa Arabelle Walters and Lottie Walters.

There are probably 2 Woodsons buried there also. What is most important at this point is to have YOU write to the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission to help ensure that the cemetery is preserved and maintained and not "plowed under" by the current owner of the land - a developer. A final decision is scheduled to be made at a hearing on December 13, 2004.

    3. William E. Bartlett, Jr. tbgfairfax@msn.com is the person who is trying to help save Woodson Cemetery from the construction that is planned which will be devastating to it. We're trying to get people to write to the Planning Commission in Bibb County to have them prevent this....and if you are willing to write, I'll supply you with the information. In the meantime, I thought perhaps someone might know more about the people that he listed as probably being buried there. Woodson Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Bibb County and was an Indian burial ground before Lizella (originally Warrior) became a white settlement in 1821. There are three known Indian mounds in the cemetery. The cemetery was situated between the Bartlett and Pender family homesites (south of what is now Lake Arrowhead Park) and most of the burials consist of those families . The cemetery is located in the woods on a hill about 300 yards to the left of the road going to Arrowhead Lake Park - about a city block before reaching the Park entrance gate. (Turn off Columbus Road about a mile before reaching Lizella.) Bethena Elizabeth Singleton Jones 1912 (only marker) Others buried there marked with field stones include: William Bartlett (1858) Nancy Bartlett (1865) Jesse Bartlett (1863) Pency Ann Stokes Bartlett (1890) Thomas Jefferson Bartlett Rachel Renfrow Bartlett Josiah Pender (1872) Celia Wyche Pender Nancy Bartlett Pender Jeremiah Willis Pender.

Surnames: Bartlett, Pender, Jones Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ea.2ADI/1222.2.1 Message Board Post: The old Woodson Cemetery was at one time surrounded by land owned by Jonathon Woodson so I would assume that he is buried there. The cemetery was on land owned by Gladys Stokes and when she died it conveyed to Bobby Stokes (it was behind their house) on Columbus Road in Lizella. My gr gr grandparents (Jesse and Pency Bartlett) are buried there plus my gr gr gr grandparents (Willaim and Nancy Bartlett). There are a number of Penders buried there including my gr gr grandparents (Josiah and Celia Pender). When I last visited the site in Feb 1989, there were still three Indian burial mounds in the cemetery. We really need to do all that we can before the Dec 13th Planning & Zoning Commission meeting to insure that the Woodson Cemetery is saved, identified and maintained from here on. Write your US Senator and ask for his help. Contact the Creek Indian Council and inform them. Write to Vernon Ryle, III - the Executive Director of the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission.
