Our Brick Wall is James McDONALD, b. NC between 1760-70, d. bef. Aug. 27, 1835. We know that he lived in Bibb Co, GA by 1828, & likely before that date, & died there before August 27th 1835 without leaving a written Will. Three known children were: Green McDONALD, b. abt. 1805 GA, Jemima McDONALD, b. abt. 1812 GA, and Middleton McDONALD, b. abt. 1814 GA, there were several more children. One may have been Martha McDONALD, b. abt. 1806 GA. Possibly another older daughter named Mary McDONALD. From the 1930 census there appears to have been at least 2 other sons at home... From the 1830 census from Bibb Co, GA for James' household, page # 74: 1 male 10-15(unknown son?), 1 male 15-20 (Middleton), 2 males 20-30(Green & another unknown son?), 1 male 60-70 (James?), 1 female 50-60 (wife ?). Jemima and Martha married BATEMAN cousins in Bibb Co. 1829. If you have any information, PLEASE, get in touch with us. Thank you very much for your time & any help you can lend with James McDONALD & his family. Jack Scarborough (in TX.)
This is my brick wall. Hope you can suggest somewhere to look. Thanks a bunch for any help. Allie Golden TAYLOR b. 30 Mar 1884 place: Macon, GA (?) m. 1900 Dyches, Willie Allison place: Barnwell Cty, SC d. 16 Jan 1975 place: Barnwell Cty, SC On Social Security Form states parents were William and Lina TAYLOR from Macon, GA. Family lore says: Allie may have been adopted. She was not treated well by her foster parents. She left home at young age for SC. She had a twin sister that moved to Port Rico. Allie was an orphan and her aunt raised her. Allie's mother died when Allie was ll months old (Feb 1885). (I don't know if the TAYLORs was her aunt, foster parents or adopted parents)
My Brick Wall is William J. LaVARRE (Sr.). I have his descendant information but am trying to discover where he came from, and when he was born. (his ancestry). I haven't found him in the 1860 or 1870 censuses (searching GA and elsewhere) He appears by 1872/3 to marry Jennie ANDREWS (b. 1842) and he's dead by April 1876. He lives outside the city limits with his wife and sons Ollie (b. 1973) and William Jr. (b. 1876) so I haven't succeeded in finding him in city directories. Jennie and Ollie are buried at Rose Hill Cemetery. William Jr. went on to have a life I know a lot about, leaving Macon in 1896 and returning after 1930. He died there in 1945 and was buried by Hart's Mortuary. ------------ From The Macon Telegraph and Messenger, dated Tuesday, April 18, 1876, p. 4 col. 1 Shocking Homicide in Twiggs On Saturday last about noon an employee at Myrick's Mill, by the name of William LAVARRE, was shot and instantly killed by John EDMUNSON, a young man about 17 or 18 years of age, under the following circumstances: A short time previous to the killing EDMONDSON had had some words, and perhaps blows, with LAVARRE in relation to soem matters pertaining to the mill business, LAVARRE refusing to fight him on account of his youth. On Saturday, a great crowd gathered at the mill, in consequence of a break in the dam, to catch fish, EDMONSON, being one of the number. LAVARRE apprehending no trouble while on his way to his dinner was hailed by EDMONDSON. Seeing that he was under the influence of liquor LAVARRE paid no attention to his call and continued on his way to his dwelling, only a short distance off. Whereupon EDMONDSON drew his pistol and before he could prevented fired at LAVARRE, the ball striking him in the back of the head, close to the ear, and killing him on the spot in full presence of his wife, who was waiting for him in the door of her house. The community is very much incensed and the murderer would have been severely dealt with but for the fact that he immediately took to the swamp and has not yet been apprehended. His widow is the daughter of the late Dr. L.F.W. ANDREWS, and formerly the widow of Charles ROSS, who died in Texas some time ago. ------------ Christina Auch theauchs@adelphia.net http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~familiesacrosstime/
Elizabeth Ann RIDLEY was born in England in 1832. I do not have a date for her arrival in the US. She married George C. DUNWELL in 1852 in New Orleans, LA. After many years of homesteading in AR, the widowed Elizabeth moved to Macon, Bibb County, GA, for 2 years. She was in Macon from 1890 to 1892. From Macon, she moved in with her son and daughter in St. Louis, MO, and died in 1907. I am wanting to find out why she moved to Macon. I believe there must have been some of her RIDLEY family there, because I have the DUNWELL's all accounted for. Thanks for any clues or suggestions! Cindy _otisboat@aol.com_ (mailto:otisboat@aol.com)

Hello, All! I am so pleased to see our list traffic pick up after a few really slow months! It is a joy to see folks trying to help one another connect and share their resources in these efforts! Next week, I will be working on additions and adjustments to list helps, and to The GAGenWeb Site for Bibb County. Please take this weekend to review you Bibb notes and let me know of any resource you would like to see checked out and added to our site. Also, please peruse the site and help me search for errors, and submit any corrections if you have any, as I may not catch everything. IF you have submitted material for the web site, and I have not posted it yet, please remind me. Last month was very hectic for me and I may have filed it in the wrong folder. Please accept my apologies about this. I do know I have some surnames to add to our family section. Also, a Roll Call may be posted for this weekend that will end on Monday at Midnight. Watch for it! I believe it may be a cemetery where black people are buried. It is grown up terribly and 80% of the graves are sunken and without any slab or headstone other than a foot marker and head marker and I mean stones used for markers. I think it may have in the past had a connection to Hazzard Church located just down the road from the school but no way of knowing. It is at least an acre in size. After walking so many cemeteries it hurts to see where people have just been thrown in the ground like that. There may be about three slabs without names on them and there are only about three that actually have names with dates. I am going to follow those up and see what I can find. Any help would be appreciated.
