Tidwell (1827-1895). He was first married to Charlotte PASS in Bibb County, who preceded him in death. He then married Sarah McCANNON of Oglethorpe County Georgia, where he then settled. It is from John Tidwell and Sarah McCannon that my husband descends, through their son George Henderson Tidwell and his son Lonnie Edward Tidwell, my husband's maternal grandfather. This line eventually settled in and around Metter, Georgia - where my mother-in-law was born and raised. John and Sarah McCannon Tidwell are buried somewhere in Oglethorpe County, and I do have the probate file of John H. Tidwell - along with a couple of photos of his parents, Hugh Millen and Nancy Tidwell. I would be grateful for a copy of the Bobby Stokes video interview and information you have on the Tidwells. Please let me know if this is possible and what costs you will incur - I would be happy to reimburse you. I in turn am happy to share what material I have on this line. Also, if anyone has information on Sarah McCannon to share, please let me know. I have had quite a bit of difficulty tracking down her parents.

My line of descent is through Wm. Eli, Sr. through his eldest son James A. and Mary Ann Toole Tidwell, who had 12 children, one of whom was my grandfather John Howell Tidwell. The other 11 have been a bit more difficult to trace. I have spouses and birthdates for them, but not much else. The last pictures I saw of the Tidwell Cemetery were sent to me by Jimmy Allen. They are posted on the web. How strange that Wm. Eli, Sr. who Bobby Stokes said was the first grave in that cemetery is not listed on the marker. I wish you luck on your SC search for the family of Hugh Millen and Wm. Eli, Sr. The families of the late Rev. Alva Tidwell and Eunice Tidwell Newberry, my father's siblings, are the only family that I know from that area of Bibb County.

It is a very heavily wooded area down the street from Bethel Baptist. You can barely see the road. In the 80's the Tidwell descendants, headed by Bobby Stokes, grouped together and raised money to clean the place up, fix the graves, and purchased a huge headstone with all the names and dates of the people buried there. I have a list of all the people buried there and also a one hour tape of an interview my father and I had with Bobby Stokes. I am from William Eli Tidwell, Sr's line (he is Hugh Millen's brother). William Eli Senior's son (William Eli Jr) married Penelope Hunnicutt/Honeycutt and they had Sallie Tidwell who married Berry Daniel Taylor (my great-grandfather). Berry and Sallie lived on Tidwell road, a few houses down the road from Bobby Stokes and their backyard neighbors were Tidwells. I am trying to find Millen and Eli's parents in South Carolina. Even Bobby Stokes could not find them so I know I am up against a long search that I have been working on for 14 years already. I have quite a list of Tidwells if anyone is interested. I use Personal Ancestry File and I will happily send a GEDCOM file. Any help on their parents would be *greatly* appreciated! Thanks! Debra
