Local author, Harry Stillwell Edwards, wrote an amusing tale of the travels of a trusted slave who was sent from his home to another plantation to protect and transfer an heirloom bride's cup during the Civil War. The existence of same name places in each state leads him on a merry journey... Can anyone locate a vendor, or bookshop that carries these books? I would like to present these titles in my Sherwood family history as a resource for local flavor. They used to be sold at the Museum of Arts & Sciences when I was in high school at McEvoy...if any who lives the area is willing, I would love to locate a set and refer to the location (library or shop) in my presentation. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gajones/hawkins.htm Diane Wilcox who has written a book on Ft. Hawkins and Frontier Georgia has given us permission to put much of her book on-line. I think you'll find it fascinating....not only about the Fort itself, but because she indentified all the people mentioned in Benjamin Hawkins writings, and all those who lived at the Fort. One the sections that I especially enjoyed was her geographical section explaining the naming of the early geographical features through early Georgia....not just around Fort Hawkins. It seems to me that she covers ALL the Forts, early counties, rivers, etc. The origin of the names is fascinating. Their upcoming special events are: Frontier Day on September 15th, 2001 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. featuring free fort tours and an essay contest "The People of Fort Hawkins," and the Fort Hawkins Frontier Festival on April 7th, 2001. I'm looking for anything on Jeremiah (Jerry) Crimmins, who married Elinor O'Sullivan prior to 1870 when their son Timothy Edward Crimmins was born. Timothy married Martha Abigail Arline Young in 1912. I found Timothy and Martha and several of their children on the 1920 Macon, Bibb census, but that's the only time I've ever found them. I'd much appreciate it if anyone could tell me if they've run across these people in their travels :) Thanks! Pamm

Here's a voice from a few months ago coming back to the scene. I have been ill and have recuperated enough to show my presence. My first concern at this moment is to drum up some help with some cemeteries that I have no address for contacting those in charge. Two of these are Rogers Methodist, and Boggs Chapel UMC. If you can help in any way, please do so. I have already sent letters to several churches with cemeteries this week. If you have any requests let me know. We are trying to find our McDONALD ancestors. Our only known McDONALD at this point is Jemima, who married Theophilus BATEMAN in Bibb CO, GA 15 Oct. 1829. A sister or cousin of hers married a cousin of our Theophilus, named Micajah BATEMAN [(JR.?) believed to the son of Micajah BATEMAN and his wife Levina (No surname known at this time.)]. The younger Micajah married Martha McDONALD on the 16th of Dec. 1829 in Bibb Co, GA. Jemima & Theophilus had 6 children: Nancy, William Green, Martha Ann, Middleton McDonald, James, & Charity. (Charity was named after her Grandmother, Charity McCRARY who married Bryan BATEMAN, Theo's father.) We are looking for the birth dates of thier children (All except Nancy, she married John Fletcher HARMON. who's info. we have.). Jemima was a co-executor with Middleton McDonald of her husbands estate. We found this mentioned in an article on the Abstracts from the Georgia Journal and Messenger, Macon, GA dated February 7,1849 VolXXVI No 45. And Middleton is mentioned in Theophilus' Will as brother & trusted friend. Theo died Sept 10th, 1848 in Marion Co., GA. We know that there were several McDONALD families mentioned in the 1850 Federal Census. Middleton MCDONALD Bibb 206 # 520 Dist., #7-68 Middleton McDonald, 36 b. GA Polly 26 b. GA James 5, b. GA Middleton 6 mo. (recorded Sept 25) b. GA (Middleton is also shown marrying Mary Busy on 21 Nov. 1839 in the Bibb Co. Marriage Book B 1839-1849.) Charles (Probably J.) Bibb 200 # 519 Dist. G. Bibb 138 # 564 Dist. John W. Bibb 157 # 716 Dist. Is there any relation of these families to one another? Does anyone know the relation of JEMIMA to MIDDLETON, & MARTHA, & who their PARENTS were? We have NO information what so ever on our Jemima & her family other than her marriage date. Please get in touch with us, as any info. to head us in the right direction will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Please write, or e-mail, Jack Scarborough, [email protected], or snail mail, 3108 Arroyo Dr. Victoria, TX 77901
Can you please give a little more information about Marion Womack if you have it. My husband knows several people in Macon that might be of Kin, however more information is needed. Brother's or Sister names, parent names. We live and work in an area where several people by the name of Womack are located. It might be possible to locate your information through them.

Hello, I just posted an old newspaper article from the Macon Daily Telegraph regarding the death at sea of C. H. HUNT in 1886. It's scanned from an original issue of this old newspaper; you can see it online here: http://theoldentimes.com/chhunt86ga.html I hope it's helpful! Barbara http://theoldentimes.com
"Cassandra Pickett Durham, after her physician husband died, placed her four children with relatives and enrolled in the Reform Medical College (later the Georgia Eclectic Medical College) in Macon, where she earned her degree in 1870. She was the first women doctor in the state and practiced medicine in Americus for about 10 years, until her death. She was a tireless campaigner for womens suffrage." Cindy, Sooooooo, the school changed from Reform Medical College to Georgia Eclectic Medical College and was in existence in 1870. Joan
