Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ea.2ADI/447.1 Message Board Post: The commander of the local SCV camp is currently researching to determine how many Confederate veterans are buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon, Georgia. He plans to publish a full list featuring biographical annotations in the near future. Until that project is completed, I am unaware of any complete listing of Confederates buried at Rose Hill. Of course, the Genealogical and Historical Room of the Washington Memorial Library, 1180 Washington Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31201-1790, has a list of all Confederates buried in soldiers square at Rose Hill, but the soldiers buried in that section are but a fraction of the total number of soldiers and veterans buried in the cemetery. Last year a book was published on the Confederate veterans buried at Riverside Cemetery, which is adjacent to the older Rose Hill Cemetery. Copies of that booklet may be obtained by contacting Riverside Cemetery, Macon.

My grandfather was George Washington Young. His father was Charlie Y. Young who committed suicide approx. 1927. George's mother was Mattie T. Bryant - born May 15, 1889 in Jones County, GA. She was the daughter of Theodore Bryant and Martha (unknown maiden name). Her date of death was July 8, 1958. Mattie married a second time. Her second husband was James William Simpson. Charlie Young had a brother named Joe. Looking for Charlie's parents names, etc. Cannot seem to locate any info on him. Any information on the Bryant's would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Has anyone run across Thomas Camp (wife Matilda F. Camp; don't know maiden name)? Thomas was born around 1832 (1870 Walton census shows him at age 38). They had at least 4 children: George Washington Camp (b. 10/23/1866, d. 10/7/1930), John W. Camp (b. around 1868), Mary J. Camp (b. around 1866), and Robert, who was not born prior to the 1870 census. George W. Camp married Sallie (Sarah Elizabeth) Garrett (b. 9/24/1865, d. 12/5/1948). George and Sallie left Walton in 1904 and moved to Dooly Co. (now Crisp Co.), then moved his family to Bibb Co. around 1915. They had 8 children: Mattie Ester Camp, their oldest, is my grandmother. At least 2 of their children resided in Bibb for many yrs.: Minnie Camp Rogers died 11/30/1970 and Daisy Camp died in 1988.

Hello, I would like to know if there is anyone out there who uses the library regularly who would be willing to check the newspaper index for Lena LEWIS This would be my friend's grandmother. She knows nothing about her paternal family and has heard a rumor of a murder/suicide in Bibb County that involved her grandmother, Lena LEWIS. Her father was born in 1918 so it would have been after that date. She has no further information. She needs a Random Act of Genealogical Kindness. Bless You All, Phyllis
I found a great Bibb County Genealogy Site: http://65.10.15.149/FreeGen/Home.html They will be adding over 1 billion names to their online database over the next few months.
Does anyone have any information about a Germanic Lodge in Macon in 1883? They paid for the burial if my Great Grandfather but I can't find anything about them. Anne Bowie

Hi All, My sister and are planning a 3 day trip to Macon to search for our Bucher and Davis families. When we went back to Rochester to take pictures of the old neighborhoods where our family lived in the 18-19 hundreds it was pretty scary. Some of those neighborhoods looked pretty tough to us. Can anyone suggest a Motel near the Washington Memorial Library. Is it safe to walk the streets at night. We're not city folks and really don't know what we're in for. Salt Lake City is such a safe city at night and I usually walk back to the motel in the dark and feel safe. I guess we need advice. Anne Bowie
Hi all, I have a newspaper dated March 2, 1883 called the Evening Graphic. Seeking information on George W. Little and wife Luella Ridge. It is believed that George Little resided in Macon County at the time of his death about Jan 11, 1913. He was a locomotive engineer and is believed to have died in a train wreck. He was buried in Westboro, Clinton County,Ohio. He was residing in Macon, Bibb County at the time of the 1900 census. Would appreciate any information from the 1910 census or his obituary, if one exists.
Knowles Family possibly can be found in the city of Macon in BIBB COUNTY, GA. They do not appear in Macon County, Ga. in 1880 census. GOOD LUCK.
