Since I posted the message, I found this census record. I think that the "Macon, GA" birthplace on Sarah's death certificate may be wrong, and she was probably born in Walker County. The family had moved to Missouri by 1868. I still haven't found them on the 1860 census. - Heather

Surnames: Mason, Allen Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Ea.2ADI/473.1.1 Message Board Post: I have a greatgrandfather, James Walter Mason, father of Norman Phelps Mason, 12/1893 and a son named Walter and maybe a daughter.. Mother of Norman was Zulia/Zula Allen. We know nothing of James Mason or little about Zulia altho we found her on the 1880 Al census, daughter of Eleanor Williams Allen, widow, with Charles and Edith as brother and sister. In the 1900 census, Norman Mason lived with Charles and Annie Allin/Allen as well as sister Edith and sister in law Georgia Bradbury, in Walker County, GA. We have heard that Norman ran away from home at a young age, was brought up by Aunt Annie. Supposedly Zulia "left" and nothing about this is concrete. Thanks for reading the message and would appreciate any info you may have. I know Mason is a pretty common name in that part of the country. THanks.

    3. Thanks, Keith, for this marvelous work... Keith Giddeon" <[email protected]> Hi all, I have just completed the informational pages for the Georgia Civil War Soldiers Index. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/military/gsi/index.html ===================== I want to thank Virginia Crilley and Tim Stowell for lots of help and encouragement during the course of this project. Feel free to link to it from your county sites, special project sites, personal sites, etc. ===================== The Index is an alphabetical listing of most soldiers serving the state of Georgia during the War Between the States. In all, the list contains over 211,000 records, with more (approximately 10-20,000) to come in the next few months. I have received approximately 450 emails regarding this Index since it went online in late December. I have received many thanks from those who have found information on their ancestors. Along with many of these thanks, came offers to assist me in my genealogy research should the need arise. Please save your offers to help me personally. Instead of using your time to email me (unless you have a question not contained in the FAQ), please transcribe a deed, or a will. Anything you have lying around in your files. When you have it transcribed, send it to the county coordinator for that county, and/or the county file manager for the Archives. Let's get a much larger amount of free data online this year, than has been seen in all previous years. I hope the Index helps you in your research, I know it has mine. Sincerely, Keith Giddeon Virginia Crilley

    3. Hi everyone, My Grandfather, William Conrad Bucher was a good friend of Sam Dobbs. I think Grandpa was the soda jerk who worked at the Pharmacy that sold Coca Cola. If anyone has a biography of Sam Dobbs I would appreciate the information, especially his birthdate. I just discovered that Asa Candler was born the same year as my great grandmother. I'm making a time-line of events before my trip to Macon and am looking for when and where Grandpa worked for Coca Cola. I have several letters from Sam to him over a period of several years. Also, if anyone is researching Sam Dobb's family, I will be glad to make copies of the letters and send them. The originals were sent to Coca Cola many years ago. 2. Nancy
    3. Hi, The list administrator suggested I put some information from the obit/write-ups on the mailing list. Perhaps it will trigger some ideas. Before I do that, this man was a builder and spent time in Delaware, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, then finally Oklahoma. His wife Ada (don't know her maiden name yet) was born in Georgia and according to the 1900 OK census they had been married 15 years-1885?) October 23, 1922 Collinsville (Oklahoma)News "United States Senator Walter George of Georgia who spoke here (Collinsville) last Saturday is an old acquaintance of P.J. Duffy. Mr. Duffy erected the Court House in the home town of the Senator thirty five years ago. They had quite a visit Saturday. (that puts P.J Duffy in Georgia about 1887.)" Excerpt from Obituary dated August 2, 1934 in Tulsa Daily World "Patrick J. Duffey was a native of Ireland but reared and educated in England. Learning the bricklaying trade, he served three years of apprenticeship in England and two in the United States. He came to this country in 1866 engaging in contracting in Delaware, South Carolina, Georgia, and Louisiana before coming to Indian territory in 1906 for his health. Before his arrival here he had gained a wide reputation as the builder of what was then the largest church in the south, the catholic Church in Macon Georgia." I guess I'll be looking for a marriage record, and a church marriage record in Bibb County? about 1885, and perhaps an obituary from the Macon Georgia newspaper in August 1934? Also for his wife when she died on November 8, 1920. I would also like to get any info on him from a history of Catholic Church (St Joseph's) he built in Macon? No one can tell me that there are not the best people on mailing lists-thanks for all help already given, and any thoughts. nancy
