If anyone recognizes these, or thinks they might be connected to this line, please contact me. My direct line is the son DAVID and I have included his children here. Thanks! Dorothy JACOB (?) JOHNS(T)ON and unknown wife had nine children, including the following six , all believed to have been born in NC. We don’t know the birth order, nor whether the remaining 3 children were boys or girls. At some time after 1801 the family moved to Horry County, SC, where Jacob and his wife died, probably before 1810. About 1821 most of the sons listed moved to Bibb and surrounding counties in Georgia. See details for each son, below. JACOB-We have found a Jacob Johnson in Bibb County, GA in the 1820s through 1840s. Family information indicates that he “died in southern Georgia” JOSHUA- We have found a Joshua Johnson in Bibb County, GA in the 1820s through 1840s. Family information indicates that he, like Jacob, “died in southern Georgia”. ENOCH-born in NC ca. 1792, we cannot find him in Georgia, but he moved on to DeSoto LA where he was a man of some wealth, but never married. Died ca. 1860 in DeSoto, LA. NATHAN-Found in Bibb County, GA in the 1820s, and then in Crawford Co. in the 1830-1848. He is thought to have died in the Mexican-American war. WILLIAM- Found in Bibb County, GA, but there are several Williams, and we aren’t sure which one is him. ** DAVID-born in NC 1801, was “a boy” when his parents died in Horry Co. SC, then in 1821 he moved to Georgia and “drifted until 1826” when he married (first) CATHA ANN SANDERS. They are found in the 1830 census in Marion County. They had three children: JOSEPH B. JOHNSON b. 1828 in Marion Co. GA, married (possible) SAMANTHA “MATTIE” BRYAN or SAMANTHA “MATTIE” E. ALLEN. Moved to Mansfield, DeSoto, LA where he died in 1880/81. CHARLOTTE T. JOHNSON b. 1830 in GA married ISOM/ISHAM GALLOPS. She died 1898 in Holt, FL. FRANCES JANE JOHNSON. Born 1832-33 in GA. She married (possibly) UNKNOWN SADDLER David married (second) SARAH ANN LANCASTER in Stewart Co. GA in 1838. Sarah was born 1819 in Georgia and died 1863 in Rankin Co., MS. David and Sarah lived in Russell Co. AL from the time of marriage until 1861, when they moved to Rankin Co. MS. David was a farmer and Methodist minister and was a circuit- preacher while they lived in Alabama, then preached at Andrew Chapel in Rankin Co. MS when they lived there. They had the following children, all born in Russell Co. AL: THOMAS LANCASTER JOHNSON b. 1839 married LOIS ANTOINETTE BEALL in 1866 in Talbot Co., GA, where they lived until the late 1880s, when they moved to DeKalb Co., GA. He died in 1929. WILLIAM E. Hello, GABIBB listers! This is the reply to a question I sent to the Washington Library concerning their holdings regarding cemeteries: : Mrs. Braswell: : Your request for information regarding funeral home records in the Genealogical and Historical Room has been forwarded from the Reference Department. : : We have a four volume set containing the photocopied funeral cards from Connally & Pitts Funeral Home for the years 1921 to 1940. In addition, we have a bound photocopied volume of the interment list from Hart's Mortuary for burials between April 1915 and April 1946 inclusive. These are the funeral home records we have for Bibb County mortuaries and funeral homes. : : In addition to these records, I should like to mention a number of other sources our patrons use in finding ancestors who died or are buried in Bibb County. We have interment records for Rose Hill Cemetery (1840-1871 and 1896-1915), Riverside Cemetery (to 1940) and Riverside Cemetery (Old Section to 1972), and Macon Memorial Park Cemetery (1935-February 2000). We also have records of Rose Hill Cemetery based on a gravestone survey of 1959. We have records for Cedar Ridge Cemetery and a partial list of Hart's Mortuary burials in Evergreen Cemetery. We also gravestone survey records of a number of smaller Bibb County cemeteries. : : Moreover, we have several indices for obituaries in local newspapers. We have Willard Rocker's book abstracting marriage and death notices from the Macon Messenger (1823-1865), Jean Ard's multi-volumed index of funeral notices from the Macon Telegraph (1870-1910), and the library's index of Macon Telegraph obituaries (1907-1994). : : Before closing, I should also mention the Georgia Death Index, which began in 1919. We have the index for the years from 1919 to 1998. Finally, I think your list users will be excited to know that our book catalogue will soon be on line. We are now in the process of moving the catalogue to a computerized format in the PINES system, which is accessible to users in their homes. Once we are on board, it will be possibel for any one of our patrons to check for a particular book from his or her home computer. This without having to wait for us to open and without having to call or drive to the library. (The microfilm catalogue will not be available through this system immediately, but we hope to include it eventually). : : Thank you for your interest in our collection. I hope this information will prove useful to GABIBB rootsweb list users and that many will visit us, or if they are too far away to visit Washington Memorial Library, that they will write or e-mail us. Patrons may e-mail directly to the Genealogical and Historical Room (Our e-mail address is [email protected]) or write to us at the address below listed. ( I should caution that we can not accept research inquiries over the telephone, but of course will answer questions about our hours, holiday closings, and holdings over the telephone). http://www.rootsweb.com/~gajones/hawkins.htm I've just put on-line a photo of the Artistic Print that has been created to promote the rebuilding of the Blockhouse for Fort Hawkins. All the information about ordering is there as well.... If you have an interest in Fort Hawkins, and have other materials to share, I'd love to hear from you. Virginia Crilley
Jonathan Halstead (a U.S. appointed factor) died there in 1814 and Lavinia Downs are supposed to be buried at Old Fort Hill Cemetery I know I've corresponded with people before about both of these individuals, and now I can't find your notes. Would you please get back in touch with me? Dianne Wilcox is interested in learning more about Lavinia's family after her husband Benjamin Hawkins died.... Virginia Crilley
Wanted to pass along some news from the Fort Hawkins Historical commission. I received this from Dianne Wilcox who has written the very extensive history of Fort Hawkins. [email protected] http://www.rootsweb.com/~gajones/hawkins.htm This page gives a review of this book (and how to purchase it). Dianne has also provided parts of it for on-line research. the new print would make a nice gift for someone with a special connection to this area of Georgia. ==========================from Dianne================ Our current push at Fort Hawkins (the blockhouse site) is fundraising. On February 8, 2002 the City of Macon acquired the land needed to restore Fort Hawkins 1.4 acre stockade compound. This past Saturday, we (Georgia Military College and the Fort Hawkins Commission) unveiled a professional artwork titled "Where it All Began." The art, now to be reproduced as prints, shows the blockhouse, the bust of Benjamin Hawkins, a frontiersman on his horse, and a branch of Macon's cherry blossoms. People interested in buying a print to support Fort Hawkins' rebuilding should make checks for $25 (each print) to the Community Foundation of Central Georgia "FOR" Fort Hawkins print, and send the checks to me. I will personally deliver prints in the Middle Georgia area, but people outside the area should include a $5 mailing fee. The prints should be ready in six to eight weeks. >From another list........ This is a very interesting list.> It is a list of children ordered to be sent to Virginia 1618-1642 from the United Kingdom prior to the Mayflower's arrival here. http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/families/childva.htm This link will also lead to the home page link of the First Families of America. I found several of my ancestors listed. http://www.firstfamilies.org/db/dbindex.htm Hope some of you will find these links helpful to your research.
