    1. [GABIBB] Surnames: Kitchens, Wiggins, Bryant and Walker.
    2. Laszlo and Cathleen Szabo
    3. Hello, I'm attempting to research my ancestors and finding very little. Surnames include Kitchens, Wiggins, Bryant and Walker. My paternal grandfather, Charles Kitchens, was sometimes called 'CT' Kitchens. We were told that his middle name was probably Thomas. He was born about 1861 in Bibb County and died about 1935, probably in Bibb, or possibly Crawford or Turner County. His father, Charles Kitchens (though the first name is not certain) died fighting for the Confederacy in the Civil War when my grandfather was a very young child. Grandfather was raised by his grandparents and, after his mother remarried, by his stepfather and mother. He married a woman whose maiden name was Bryant and they had seven children, John, Ed, Charley, Viola, Molly, Retus and Harry. The seven children were born between 1880-1907. This wife died either in birthing Harry, the youngest, or shortly thereafter. The woman hired to care for these children, Minnie Lee Wiggins (probably from Crawford County, d. about 1955 in Macon) became Charles (CT) Kitchens second wife and bore him four sons, Ira b. 1910, Terrell b. 7/7/1912, Herbert Lee (HL) b. about 1914, and Wilbur Bernard (Pete) b. about 1917. My father, Terrell (and possibly all of these four boys) were born in Turner County. At one point they lived near Live Oak settlement. My father mentioned a relative named Ollie Walker about whom I know nothing else. Any information or leads will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Cathleen Szabo

    2. Jamie
    3. FYI: I found a book on ebay that has many of this surname, thought someone might be interested in it, it shows many full names and photos of the book, although it is too high for my pocket, it might help someone and not go to a collector that will only hoard the information. This is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1736638140 Hope it helps, Jamie

    3. [See the book of abstracts "The Macon Telegraph 1833-1839", Warren.] I'd like to get more information on-line that was published in The Macon Telegraph about the Creek or Seminole War. I understand that there are several mentions in the Index of this book. If someone would describe the "abstract"...and give me the page # and volume of the newspaper, I'm going to request these copes and then transcribe them. If anyone is interested in helping with this typing, I could also use the help!! Virginia Crilley

    2. Crilley
    3. We do have one submission from a person who used the City Directory --- Dr. Stokes has kindly given us all the years that are in the Washington Memorial Library (Macon). Has anyone used the Sanborn Fire Insurance materials? I've not seen any, but just heard about them. I believe they had description of buildings...not sure if homes were included or not. From Dr. Stokes:==================== >We have Macon city directories for 1860, 1866, 1867, 1869-70, 1872, 1877, >1878, >1880, 1884 through 1897, 1899 through 1909, and 1911 through 2000, with the >following exceptions (i.e., we do not have): 1913, 1916, 1919, 1921, 1923, >1926, >1928, 1929, 1931, 1933, 1936, 1938, and 1982. In some of the 20th century >years >for which we have no directory, nothing was published. For instance, we know >this to be the case for 1982. > >We have Sanborn fire insurance maps for 1884, 1889, 1908, 1916, 1924, 1924 >corrected to 1939, and 1924 corrected to 1961. Virginia Crilley

    1. [GABIBB] Fort Hill Cemetery
    2. Crilley
    3. does anyone know who woman might that the Reporter might have talked to?? I think this is a wonderful project and want to help Dianne out in any way we can on this list. Subject: story follow-up Fort Hill Cemeteries Date: Tue, 28 May 2002 14:24:11 -0400 A few weeks ago, one of 13WMAZ's reporters talked with a woman in Fort Hill who could not get to her mother's grave because of heavy overgrowth. It seems her small family plot is just across the street from the Fort Hill city cemetery. The city, of course, cleans the area inside the fence. "Mama's grave," is on private property, so the city can't officially clean it. I'm teaching Early American Literature for summer quarter, and at the request of a researcher (in another state) have agreed to take our college students to physically survey Fort Hill Cemetery (collect all epitaphs, and written information still visible on headstones and historic markers) on Saturday, June 29th. My students, mostly working professionals (this is a lunch class on base) would like to contact the woman and clean her mother's gravesite while we survey the city cemetery. Do you have a way to contact the woman? I'm copying this message to the city, so we can properly coordinate the event with Public Works or related departments. 1. [GABIBB] Seeking White & Af-Am Rodgers/Rogers/Howard and info on Rodgers Ave in Macon
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Rodgers/Rogers/Howard Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ea.2ADI/752 Message Board Post: I have a Mariah Rodgers 1862 -abt1901,who married Louis Howard abt 1858-1933 in Macon. As the story has been told, Mariah was mulatto and when she was in any trouble or needed money, would go to the back door of a large home on Rodgers Ave of a white family and would get help. She died young and her children as young adults also went to this house for help. No other info on this house or family but I'd love any ideas or info. No information on Mariah's parents but her children always thought her father or mother was a relative of that home. Louis Howard was an outcast of his family and I have no information on his parents. On the 1880 census with Louis & Mariah was listed a Julius Howard 1 year old. He is listed as no relation to Louis then in the 1900 he is listed as son. My grandfather said when his brother got grown he left and was never heard of again. Looking for any children of Fisher Howard also.

    1. [GABIBB] Cemeteries / Memorial Day Idea
    2. Hi All ~ A wonderful member of the Georgia American History and Genealogy Project came across a great idea, and I would like to share it with you... The upcoming days are part of Memorial Day Weekend, and several of you might be traveling to cemeteries armed with your digital cameras. I would like to suggest that you take some photos of the cemeteries and their tombstones. Then, if you would kindly pass them along (specifying the cemetery) to the AHGP, we will post them online. It would be kind and a great help to researchers who are unable to make it on their own. Many cannot travel, and even more just live too far away. You can send any photos from Houston and Bibb Counties to me at - [email protected] . For any other Georgia areas, you can send them to Paula at - [email protected] . We at the Georgia AHGP would like to thank you in advance for your generosity. As always, if you have any information regarding Houston and/or Bibb Counties you would like to share, I'm just an email away! :-) As a side note: I'm sure other state coordinators would be happy to receive photos, as well. This doesn't have to be limited to Georgia. Stephanie [email protected] Georgia American History and Genealogy Project Houston and Bibb Counties http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/state/

    3. http://www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/courthouses/bibbCH.htm click on the postcards to see the old courthouse... Then scroll down to the Historic Maps.....great!! http://www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/histcountymaps/bibbhistmaps.htm Although looking at them I got confused about how much land east of Ocmulgee River was in present day Bibb. Wish we have the complete "Bibb County was created on Dec. 9, 1822, by an act of the General Assembly (Ga. Laws 1822, p. 21)" I think it gives the complete dimensions and borders. No wonder Land research is so complex! Bibb came out of parts of 3 original counties.... Virginia Crilley

    3. -I got a Klez virus and was able to download a file that got rid of it from Norton. It is confusing to follow their instructions but I finally was able to quarantine a setup.exe file in Windows and then deleted it. This finally worked. Gosh, if some of you are not very experienced with computers it is going to be so confusing to get rid of it. I was lucky, not experienced.
