I received my "bingo" or the key to breaking down my "brick wall" about 6 months ago. I had been going around in circles for months trying to find the parents of my Great-great grandmother (Suzanna (Howell) Griffin) of Berrien/Lowndes Co., who was from the Valdosta, Ga area---Hahira, to be exact. I finally gave in and did the simplest thing. I called the Dept. of Vital Statistics in Valdosta to get her Death Certificate. Now I know that this won't help everyone, due to the fact that they didn't start keeping such records until about 1917 or so. (Don't press me for the correct date...<grin>) A Ms.Courson answered my questions over the phone, after finding the certificate in her database. I sent for the certificate and I am still amazed at how simple it was to finally break down that brick wall. I think that that is why I didn't do it sooner....It just seemed too easy! I was too stubborn to try to go that route. I just knew that it would be a dead end as well, but I was wrong!!
