SIMPSON 1827-1925 Who served in the Confederate States Army, Company "B", 5th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry of the Army of Tennessee. He was promoted to Sgt. in 1862. On April 2, 1864, he was transferred to the Corp of Sappers and Mines by General Johnson. He joined on May 10, 1861 in Macon, Georgia This dedication took place January 10, 2004 in Mayo, Lafayette County, Florida at the Wayfare Cemetery Sponsors: A Livingston Camp #746, Madison, Florida & Wiregrass Greys Camp #1683, Adel, Georgia On a extremely bitter-cold, bone chilling, windy day on a hill in the Wayfare Cemetery, two miles west of Mayo, in Lafayette County, Florida, some dedicated individuals showed up to honor a Confederate Soldier. There was a Welcome by the Commander of the Wiregrass Greys of Adel,Georgia. The Invocation was given by Valera Clements of Adel, Georgia. The pledge to the United States of America Flag was led by Ellen Resta of Adel, Georgia The salute to the Confederate Flag was led by Melvyn Rowan, Adjutant Wiregrass Greys of Adel, Georgia History of the Soldier was presented by Bob Robinson, Great Grandson of Quitman, Georgia Dedication of the Marker was presented by Gail Hughes of Adel, Georgia Unveiling of the Marker was performed by James C. Robinson, Fourth Great Grandson of Quitman, Georgia Placing of the Floral Tribute by Jacob Gunter, Third Great Grandson of Crawfordville, Florida Military Salute was given by the SCV Members (3 Round Volley) Taps was played by Jon Taylor of Mayo, Florida Final Salute by the SCV Members ("Present Arms" at the graveside) Benediction by Sharon Rowan of Adel, Georgia George W.
