I'm still hoping someone can help me find proof of who my GGgrand parents were. My Ggrandfather was Joseph Harrell, married to Eliza Kansas (Willis) Harrell. (Worth and Tift counties) Legend goes that Joseph's mother died at childbirth in abt. 1862. My brother believes that William Harrell, married to Flora Ann Harrell as listed in the 1860 census of Berrien County, GA. are our grandparents. I dropped by the Folks Huxford Society Library in Homerville, GA, last week, returning from a visit with family in south GA. I joined the Society and did a little research there. If the William and Flora Ann Harrell in Berrien County in the 1860 census are Joseph's parents, it makes some sense, in that , this family dispersed during the time between 1860 and 1870 (Consistent with Joseph's mother dying in 1862.). We found several of the children (Joseph included) living in other homes in the 1870 census, Berrien County. William and his oldest son, Jesse, are in the 1864 census of Georgia for the reformation of the militia. William is also in the 1867 Tax Digest for Berrien County. I've not found any indication of Flora Ann's death as yet. Johnny and Sue Hancock have extensively listed the headstones in Berrien County and I've not found her in that list yet. I'd like to check to see if there was a paper that had her obituary in Nashville or Tifton. If anyone can help with this, I'd really appreciate a hint. Also, the family that Joseph was raised with (Benjamin and Ellenor Lindsey), had family in Berrien County near the Harrell's in the 1860 census also. By 1880, they were showing up in Worth County (or some were). There were 3 Benjamin Lindsey's in that line. Since the 1860 census said that William was from North Carolina, I went back and found he and Flora and the first 3 children in North Carolina. They are in the Bladen County census of 1850. (In that census, it says William was born in South Carolina , I think. ) I'll be following up on this in the coming days. One should also note that Ancestory.Com indexes "William Harrel" for the 1850 census in North Carolina. It's best to use the Soundex spelling match in research, given all the mis-spellings This William Harrell is not (to my knowledge) listed in the Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia Series, published by the Folks Huxford Society. Also, this William Harrell is not properly listed or indexed in the typed version of the 1860 Census of Berrien County , published by that Society. They list him as "William Howell" and thus he does not show up in their index (as Harrell). William and Flora Ann Harrell had several children, some apparently dying young, including Jesse b. circa 1846 NC Drucilla b. circa 1848 NC Arra ? b. circa 1852 NC Daniel b. circa 1854 GA Margaret b. circa 1856 GA Susan b. circa 1859 GA ? Joseph b. circa 1862 GA Joseph married Eliza Kansas (Willis) Harrell, there children included Fred Frank Birtha (m. Baker) Lilla (m. Gibbs) Cora Luny ? (m. McCord) Addie ? Jesse Tilman (my Grandfather) Joseph Died January 22, 1906. If anyone can help with my loose ends, I'd appreciate it. Tim Harrell
