    3. BellI would greatly appreciate anything you might send. I believe you and I corresponded several years ago after Ralph Crane told me to contact you. I may have sent you a little information back then. Am I wrong, are you not the same distant cousin? Anyway, it would be really fun to see what you have. Thank you ever so much for the offer of information, I look forward to hearing more from you. I even did one of those DNA tests and the results are posted at the Overstreet Homestead website archives. 1. [GABERRIE] HOWELL, LAMB, LOVEJOY, CARROLL
    2. My Dad, HARRY LEE HOWELL, was b in 1902/03 Milltown, Berrien Co, GA (now Lakeland, Lanier Co, GA) so I'm always searching for info on those lines in that area. All these lines were originally in NC & came down into GA. My maiden name line, HOWELL - is the one that has given me the most trouble. Can't get (JOHN) CASWELL HOWELL b ca 1820 NC (supposedly Wake Co, NC) d Mar 1883 Milltown, Berrien Co, GA + PERNEICE MORING(?) b ca 1825 - some say NC, some say GA d ?, probably Berrien Co, GA attached to his original family & it's not for lack of trying! CASWELL HOWELL's name gives transcribers fits - some have given it as CARSWELL HOWELL & one gave it as C. GOODWILL HOWELL....so that hasn't helped a lot. CASWELL HOWELL, wife & 5 ch were in Thomas Co, Ga by the 1850 Census - along w/a younger bro, BARNEY B. HOWELL & w, SMITHY ANN MORING. CASWELL HOWELL was ordained as Baptist preacher in ca 1854 at New Hope Bapt. Ch in Thomas Co, GA - at some point he moved into possible part of Lowndes Co, GA which became part of Berrien Co, GA. He remained there until his death - farming & preaching. My grandfather was HAMPTON A. HOWELL who mar LILLIAN EUGENIA (LAMB) as his 2nd wife - he died about 18 yrs before I was born - my Dad was the youngest of 10 living children of "HAMP" & "JENNY". Any possible connection, info will be greatly appreciated & will gladly share/exchange info. I have a good bit of info on the LAMB line, the CARROLL line & the LOVEJOY line - will be glad to share that also! Thks, Sarah Howell Studstill

    1. [GABERRIE] A great site for Lightsey, Hughes, Rhoden, Shaw and other surnames for GA/SC
    2. Jack Cox
    3. Anyone researching the surnames Lightsey, Hughes, Rhoden, etc. may want to check Pike Thomas' family tree on rootsweb.com. I found it by running a search for "Nancy Rhoden." There are tons of surnames from Lowndes, Berrien, Cook, etc. in the 1700s-1800s. Most of the surnames can be found as extended branches of Elizabeth Shaw, Nancy Rhoden's mother. It may take a while to find the lines/surnames, but there are lots of them there and the site is documented by Pioneers of Wiregrass, GA, census records, etc. Some lines date back to the mid-1500s! Hopes this helps someone. Sandy

    3. I'm a newbie who has hit the proverbial brick wall trying to take this Sanders line back into the 1700s. Am homebound and hundreds of miles away from GA research centers/libraries. Looking for info on Logan Sanders (b. SC or GA, late 1700s-early 1800s), m. Sally Fountain, in early 1800s. Do not know their full names. Would definitely like to find info on their ancestors! Have not been able to find anything on Logan Sanders or Sally Fountain other than a newspaper article published in The Berrien Press in 1966, saying they lived near Old Pleasant Church and it was Logan Sanders who gave ground for the church and cemetery 27 June 1835. Also seeking info on their descendents, including son, Samuel Gabriel or S.G. Sanders, Sr., b. abt. 1847, Berrien area, GA. Have some info on Sanders descendents, who lived in GA and FL, but looking for more. First marriage -- S.G. Sanders Sr. m. Nancy Smith, b. 1851 Clinch Co., on 9 Dec. 1869, had 3 children --S.G. Sanders, Jr., Herschell V. Sanders and Jesse M. Sanders, all born GA. The eldest son, S.G. (Berry) Sanders, Jr., b. 1875, Berrien, m. Olive Gaskins, b. 1885, Berrien, on 2 Nov. 1902, Berrien, had 4 children -- Levi Jordan Sanders, Myrtle Sanders Brooker, Floyd L. Sanders and Marjorie Sanders Arnold, all born Nashville, GA. Second marriage -- S.G. Sanders Sr. m. Nancy Rhoden, b. 1869 GA, on 1 Feb. 1900, GA, had 3 children, Hiram Sanders (possibly a.k.a. Henry H. Sanders), Andrew Jackson or A.J. MANY, MANY of the members receive upwards of 1,000+ messages a day and open messages based only on the subject lines. You are/have already hurt your chances of making a connection if you've only put "roll call" in the subject lines. PLEASE, help yourselves make connections by creating subject lines as shown in the guidelines. It's only meant to help you, not create more typing. If your message isn't opened though, you stand a chance of missing that ONE connection you've been waiting for. Colleen

One of the researchers here who travel might see your message and select it to incorporate with his/her research trip, providing you with the results! (yes, it DOES happen) Roll call? What IS she talking about now??? For those of you who are brand new to online genealogy, or just genealogy in general, this next part is for you: TO OUR NEWBIES and NOVICES ~~ (Print this out if you need to) ~~ ROLL CALL FAQs *** A roll call means EVERYONE in the family should post those lines they are looking for. It's kind of like reporting in to the list saying, "here I am ... looking for (whoever)." This is also the time our lurkers come out and "report in." *** You should expect message traffic to be heavier this week and possibly part of next. Although you can post a query anytime during the year, roll calls are special because everyone is expected to post... including our lurkers (those people who just monitor a list and don't participate). It's an important time and you don't want to miss out, but your mailboxes could get full fast. Please be sure to check them daily and keep them emptied so your mail won't bounce. *** Although the traffic is going to get heavier and may be a strain on your time to keep up, PLEASE STAY WITH US. This will only last about two weeks, if that. You don't want to unsubscribe just as an inline cousin is posting information you've been watching for, then end up missing the very message you've waited all this time for! :( *** Be sure to use ONLY that email address to post with that you signed up to the list with. Any other address will not be recognized by Rootsweb and their servers will kick your message out of the system. *** Send your roll call messages DIRECTLY TO THE LIST at <GABERRIE-L@rootsweb.com> Please DO NOT send them to me as I am only one person with one line when, what you want, is for everyone on the list to see who you're looking for. *** With exception of the subject line (see below), there is no special format. You just need to remember to include names, dates and places as best you can. If you're nervous about this, you might want to sit back a day or two and read some of the other researchers posts and see how they did it, then just do what they did. Everyone has their own style and preference for setting up a roll call message. *** If you're a newbie, the best thing you can do for yourself is to announce it first thing in your message! It alerts the rest of us to be especially watchful of your material. PLEASE MAKE YOUR SUBJECT LINE READ SOMETHING LIKE THIS: ROLL CALL: Doe, John (1782-1860/70, Ray City, GA > AL > TN) ROLL CALL: Doe, John (England > VA> Berrien Co., GA 1834) PLEASE DO **NOT** MAKE YOUR SUBJECT LINE READ LIKE THIS: John Doe (or) Doe family (or) Roll call Subject lines should have enough information so that a potential reader will know if they are interested before reading the message itself. This means, at the very least a place (a state/country preferably with county/region) and a time period. Even better is an actual name, but that's probably secondary unless he/she is the focus of the question. "ROLL CALL: Nashville Doe" is okay; "ROLL CALL: Alapaha Doe 1750+" is better. Help us to help you by giving clear subject lines, okay? Thanks. :) I hope this answers any questions you might have, but if not, go right ahead and ask! Your post is every bit as important as mine or any other researcher's. :) Colleen
