    3. Hi GA. Researchers, Sorry if you get doubles, if you are even getting your mail? Some still aren't! Here is some info that just may hopfully help you find what & who you are looking for, and maybe surprise you with some you weren't expecting to find! :-) If you do not know the name of the town that you are lookin for specific info in, but do know the name of the county? try this: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gafiles.htm When this opens, click on: GA Cities. (Say for instance I was trying to find out where in Douglas Ga. that my husband's grandmother Ollie Holton Music is buried.) I would click on the "D" for Douglas. Scroll down to find Douglas in the left hand cloumn...... it says it is in Coffee Co. (there are also communites and other things, NOT just towns listed here) Now go back to the main page, and click on COUNTY FILES, and click on Coffee Co. There is a wealth of information here. But if I were looking for her burial, I would click on CEMETERY RECORDS. There are 27 cemeteries posted here. I find her buried in Sand Hill Cem. There is a wealth of information here. ALL GA. COUNTIES Click on any and all the surrounding counties. There is much info out there to be found. I am just trying to help you find that info. If you have info that you would like to be posted to the GaGenWeb Archives, they welcome ALL contributions and will help to see that it gets stored in the correct locations. Click on: Click here to transcribe and send in your records! <http://www.poppet.org/gafiles> I am sure someone will be happy to help you if you can not figure it out. I also know that all you AOL subsribers have been having some terrible server problems. To check to see what county list mailings you may have been missing, click on: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/usa/GA/ Scroll down to Counites, Boroughs and Districts and click on the county/counties you are subscribed to, such as Bacon: under GABACON-L , look down and click on :Browse the GABACON archives <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/GABACON/> scroll down to : January 2004 <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/GABACON/2004-01> and you will see what posting that you MAY have been missing with your server problems. You can also do a serach here, if you just what you are looking for, only here you would click instead on Search the GABACON archives <http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=GABACON> , and type in what you are looking for in Query:...check out ALL the years. You can do this with ALL the counties too. So have fun and GOOD LUCK! If I can be of any assistance in helping you find what you are looking for, you can contact me. Kay Robinson Music Lmusic1@bellsouth.net (so far, *knocking on wood* my server is still going strong) Good luck in your search. Kay Music Genealogy...........it's all about sharing!

    3. Thanks Gwen, As I get time I'll follow up on your suggestions. I've not had much time this year and finally decided to get back to it during the holidays. The living family here took up a lot of time this year. My kids went crazy and we've had a few temporary set backs, but all is looking up now. I was blessed with a promotion last year as well, and it's about to wear me out.....lot's of travel and new responsibilities. Hope you are all well. Very nice to hear from you. 1. [GABERRIE] Census Index etc..

    3. Shirley and B J, I was sent the families I was looking for in the 1870 Census for Berrien County. I want to thank you both for your very kind offers. I will sit back and let some others have a chance now. Don't know if a census lookup would help Tim or not. Tim, sounds like you have the same situation I do in my DRIVER line. They are all over Georgia, but can I find a record of my direct line? nooooooo! LOL Their 'believed to be' brothers and sisters and some other DRIVERs that we don't know of a connection yet, trails everywhere...but not my direct blood line. They apparently came into being by metamorphosis. Tim, also wanted to add that at the library in my small town, they have put the newspapers on CD. They no longer have a microfilm reader unfortunately, so wouldn't help me to order those. But, as others suggested, do call the library in the counties you are intersted in, see if they have newspapers and which ones, how far back they go. Sometimes newspaper offices keep papers for certain time periods. Check your local library to see if they will order them for you from one of the archived sources, usually universities or the state archives. You could also probably find some obituary books by a Google search for your areas of interst. Sometimes people compile them from the old papers and publish them. If you can find out the name of the book(s) even if they are out of print, some library may have them or someone may have a copy to do a lookup in. Debra gave you the link to the Univ of Georgia, here is one for the Univ of Florida. http://web.uflib.ufl.edu./fnp/ > I have access to the 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1910, and 1920 census index for several states. 3. There is a listing of newspapers held by the University of Georgia at http://www.libs.uga.edu/gnp/index.html Most of these newspapers can be obtained through interlibrary loan from your local library. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tim H To: GABERRIE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, January 04, 2004 5:24 PM Subject: [GABERRIE] Obits ETC How does one look up obits and death records for Tift County (maybe Worth County or even Berrien) , GA for 1906 ? I'm under the impression that proper records didn't start in GA till about 1919. Do you have to go to the papers themselves, or would the local libraries have these records? Any other way to find records of death? I can't find markers in the cemetary where I'm told my ancestors have been buried. I understand that Tift County was formed from Irwin,Berrien and Worth in 1905. I'm looking for info on Joseph (Joe) (A.) Harrell. Well, also, his wife Eliza Kansas (some have listed middle initail as R or A) Harrell, about 10 years (? I'm guessing) later. (I'd also love to find records on the death of a Flora Ann Harrell, married to William Harrell. She may have died at childbirth, in 1862, in Berrien County, Nashville, GA) I'm trying to find the parents of Joseph Harrell, b. abt. 1862, died Jan 22, 1906 near or in Tifton, GA. It is possible that his parents were William and Flora Ann Harrell who came to Georgia in about 1853 with 3 children. In 1870 census, it appears that their children are in foster homes (Three girls in Berrien. Joseph appears to have been raised by the Lindsey's, some of which moved to Worth County by 1870). Which could be consistent with Joseph's mother dying in childbirth about 1862. Mine, maybe the only Harrell family not well documented in south Georgia. I come from a line of Harrell's that died young , so family history doesn't get passed down well. 3. Shirley, You were correct about the kids of Henry and Polly Ann. I was using a census source for a different Henry Jones, who lived until after 1900. Thanks for letting me know about this correction. The children were: Nancy b. abt 1861 Mary E. b. abt 1860 I don't have anything for them after 1880 however. 1. [GABERRIE] Funeral of An American Soldier
    2. shadri
    3. List, This story is not from 'this county' nor 'this state' however, it is such a great piece, and it truly concerns not only genealogy, but history as well. I wanted all of you who haven't had the chance to see it, to do so. It was sent to me by a friend and I haven't been able to forget it. It is a website of an American Soldier's Funeral. He was from a small town in Texas. Killed while serving in Iraq. There are photos and a commentary by his aunt. It is extremely moving. Titled: "Soldier's Funeral Texas Style" http://members.accessus.net/~tmcdonld/lighthse/Texas.htm I pray that ALL our men and women presently serving are able to return home safe and sound, VERY soon! Heartfelt thanks to them and their families. Included in these prayers, are the men and women and families of our allies serving along with us. May they too, soon return home to their families safe and sound. Sharon

    1. [GABERRIE] Obits ETC
    2. Tim H
    3. How does one look up obits and death records for Tift County (maybe Worth County or even Berrien) , GA for 1906 ? Thanks, Tim Harrell

    3. Dear List Members, Below are some important announcements from RootsWeb HelpDesk. We are on the list2 server that is mentioned below. I awakened this am, to find that mail from aol had indeed bounced....and possibly quite a few of our list members were bounced 'off' the list. I have just sent a message out to all of them suggesting they contact their ISP to ask them to allow their genealogy list mail. Sad. Sure have been enjoying all the list activity amongst cousins and those lookin' for some more cousins. ;-) Sure appreciate how you all jump in and try to assist anyone who asks a question. You don't 'have' to do that, the fact that you do, speaks volumes about your generous natures. Warm Regards to You All, Sharon >From the RootsWeb HelpDesk: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ Server Maintenance: 2004-01-03 We will be doing server maintenance on Tuesday, 6 January 2004, starting at 1:00 a.m. (MST). This will effect the message boards and Ancestry's AWT. They should be back up by 6:00 a.m. (MST). We apologize for any inconvenience. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Mail Lists: 2004-01-03 AOL is bouncing lists2 mail intermittently. Lists5 does not seem to be affected. We tried contacting AOL about it but did not get a reply. If you are an AOL user, please contact them and let them know you want RootsWeb mail. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Mail Lists: 2004-01-01 direcway.com is blocking email Mailing list mail is being blocked by the domain DIRECWAY.COM. RootsWeb has contacted the domain DIRECWAY.COM and is awaiting a response. Users of DIRECWAY.COM should address their concerns to their ISP. In the meanwhile, please read your list mail at the ARCHIVER threaded mail. Also upon return of service you will need to check your list subscriptions at PasswordCentral. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- rr.com and RootsWeb-Review: 2004-01-01 RoadRunner rr.com has had issues with the delivery of RootsWeb-Review to rr.com, and as an interim measure (hopefully) we have removed all rr.com addresses from RootsWeb-Review distribution list. Our apologies for any inconvenience. We are trying to find a better resolution with RoadRunner. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
