Reta, We have the regiments from Bartow County on-line: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/bartow.htm Scroll down to Military. But remember that men joined up outside their own counties for various reasons. See if you can find him on our master list http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gafiles.htm First look at the Individual Soldiers listing..... and then if you locate the company and regiment, use the Regimental Rosters link (from that same page I just mentioned) Here's a page to visit about general information on researching the Civil War in GA http://www.rootsweb.com/~gataylor/taymil.htm#Confed remember to share with all of us what you find out....as it will be sure to help others. We like to get individual records - pensions on-line as they usually mention other names of men with them in the army. Hi, My Great Grandfather and my 2Gr-Gf, William S Meeks and Hillery Meeks bothe served from Bartow County. You have William listed in Co F 18th Georgia Infantry, which is correct. They both initialy served in the Macedonia Silver Greys. Hillery later served in the 10th Georgia Calvary. I have the text of a letter written by Thomas J Pyles, Captain of the Macedonia Silver Greys, it includes a list of the voters for the "Greys. If it would be of benefit, I will gladly post to the list. Below is what I have on the Macedonia Silver Greys, I did a brief check and some of these men went on to serve in other units. Men in the 851st G. M. district organized themselves into a home guard company called the "Macedonia Silver Greys", at the Macedonia Baptist Church on May 18, 1861, with Thomas J Pyles elected Captain, John A Beck, 1st Lieutenant, R. B. Couch 2nd Lieutenant, and John Brooks, 3rd Lieutenant. Captain Pyle wrote the folling letter on the same date as above to Adjutant General Wayne. Euharlee, Cass County Ga. "Dear Sir: The citizens of the vicinity of Macedonia church having organized themselves into a company for home defense(being men mostly not subject to duty) and wishing arms of some sort (through me, their commander) most respectively solicit you to send them swords and pistols for mounted men if you can. If not expedient to do so, send guns of some sort for about 30 men. He later wrote. "If you cannot furnish us with swords and pistols, we are desirous to be supplied with some sort of arms for which (of course) we expect and are willing to give bond for the forthcoming... I will inform you that we all have accepted our commissions and have taken and subscribed to the oath as required. Very respectfully your obedient servant, Thos. J. Pyle captain of the Macedonia Silver Greys" Everything that is within the quote marks above is a verbatim quote of the article. It was taken from a book which isn't named, there is a mention of Kingston, GA and a Mrs A E Johnson and that she was responsible for the war history of Kingston being preserved. The names on the list of voters for this company were: Thos Gore, W T Adams, John Dawson, P J Drummonds, R M Arnold, J L Leak, C W Demsey, Butler Kenady, Hillery Meeks(also served in Co B, 10th Batt, Georgia Calvary) , John Brooks, W P Demsey, Wm Stone, David Lowry, G (or T) M Young, John S Statchen, Joshua Gibson, R Melton, J T Dawson, John O Baker, W Lumpkin, R B Couch, R W Kay, L W Kay, J M Lumpkin, Matthew Campbell, Wm Ligon, W S Meeks, John Beck, C Dodd, J S Henderson, Joel Stone, J M Loveless, T D Hackett, B T Leek, Lewis J Ramsey(also server Co B, 10th Batt, Georgia Calvary), H I Randal, Wm S Voingo, W H Boyd, W H Thompson, John Robertson, Obediah Owens, W T Hilliams, W E Foster, Wm Cooper, W G Stone, J Adams, F Whitaker, Jasper Hitt, Elijah Lumpkin, C H White, Ewell Henderson, J M Arnold, J T Henderson, John S Owens, Marc W Hilliams, W S Voingo, S H Drummonds, Joel Stone Quinn, A J Lumpkin, Wm Gore.
